Is it a rip off?

Hi I have a rant to get off my chest

Just booked a site for 21 nights for an eye watering £540!   After I got back on my feet I was informed that Caravan and Motor home club have increased their Easter fees this week two weeks early.  Why I ask. even the management were embarrassed and thought it were shocking.

I spent 5 nights last week on a fabulous caravan and camping club site in heart of Northumberland with all the facilities and with over 60s discount £8 pn!

After only just re-joining I cannot  see the benefits of staying with  C&M club prices are beyond out reach.

Ah but you have imposed a special circumstance there EasyT, you want a new car. Perfectly possible to find a tow car under £12k, but not perhaps a new one!

The other thing is, it might indeed be perfectly possible to tour using a Club Site as a benchmark. All you have to do is take Nunnykirk as your bench mark, as we did last year. No facilities, grass pitches. It was our dearest site on our tour of Northumberland and Borders. Other sites offered HS, sometimes a loo, most came in under £14 per night, and very nice they were as well.😁

Right at the beginning of this thread I responded to the OP with the idea of cheaper alternatives.

But I also agree that prices have crept up on some sites and whether they are truly good value is down to personal choice.

In response to a comment a few pages back about CAMC prices being comparable with similar commercials 'down the road' in no way amends the perception of VFM. I would taker a similar view of the commercials.

In the final analysis I am providing my own accommodation, maid service and meals. For my fee all I receive is a parking space and a communal bathroom 'along the corridor' and a bit of electricity in an environment that has a greater or lesser degree of landscaping. What will I pay for that? Not as much and some apparently.

Yes Brue, there are cheaper alternatives but the OP was talking of 3 weeks during a time when many sites have higher charges and saying that they felt £26 a night was expensive. Indeed they may think so but will struggle to find sites of a similar standard to CC sites for significantly less during that period. Although I personally do not believe that the C&CC are up to CC standards in a few areas they might be a cheaper alternative.

Various points of view here, but I'm not sure the club is providing anything extra for some of the pricing structures now. I'd be inclined to use everything to the hilt to get my money's worth!

But then we do not know ,as outsiders,  how pricing structures are worked out ,what i do know is that since the working time directive came into effect, and the often over reacted on H&S has been giving "grief" to managers in all industries, when in the past in house staff (wardens) could carry out on site jobs that now have to be "outsourced" to specialist? companies to mitigate any chances of litigation if "unqualified?" staff are involved, none of these companies do it cheaplyundecided which these days will add large costs to sites and the more facilities added the more they will need "maintaining"

The club is providing the same as many competitors and the CC provisions are, for me, better.

Presumably you choose other options then

I think the opposition varies as much as CAMC on facilities and provision but they do have their "senior" discount so if there's a choice I'm opting for the discount. wink

The Club offers some very good terms and conditions compared with other providers, currently no deposits and no cancellation fees. Let’s hope these are still in place this time next year for those that enjoy them. 😁
