Is it a rip off?

Hi I have a rant to get off my chest

Just booked a site for 21 nights for an eye watering £540!   After I got back on my feet I was informed that Caravan and Motor home club have increased their Easter fees this week two weeks early.  Why I ask. even the management were embarrassed and thought it were shocking.

I spent 5 nights last week on a fabulous caravan and camping club site in heart of Northumberland with all the facilities and with over 60s discount £8 pn!

After only just re-joining I cannot  see the benefits of staying with  C&M club prices are beyond out reach.

Bridlington is £35.50, two local sites:

Flowers of May, £32 and  +£3 awning, + £1 per dog = £36

South Cliff, £33 standard £37 for a SP.

Not too far away from the club's prices?

is the club prices worth the extra? well looking at the pictures of those sites - yes +1, but you decide.

I don't really want to decide CT I am quite happy with CAMC Bridlington. Doesn't stop me questioning if the have their pricing model correct though.

indeed, (thanks for answering though it was rhetorical btwsmile) but it shows the club's prices are not far away from the local (inferior) sites. If there was a huge difference then the club might be wrong. (but technically impossible)

We are all different - I wouldn't question or think about the price if I liked it, just be happy I'm on site.

Don't know about the competition CT, we didn't look. We are in the fortunate position of being able to afford the prices and like club sites. We did look at Scarborough though, over £4 cheaper a night, and we couldn't get more than a couple of nights.

I also think you are wrong about folk going away on a whim. Last year was exceptional, due to my cataract opp we ended up going away much later than normal. We don't normally do peak. However, now we have a MH and it's so easy to nip away, I can see we will be doing it a lot. A bit of good weather and we'll be away for 2 / 3 days. I am sure we will not be alone in this.

well now you dosmile

Not alone but most can't apart from weekends and their main summer holiday. That's why BH/weekends are fuller I would think.

I suppose it depends who are the main users of club sites? working folk or not? The club might know and base their prices on that?

If anyone is familiar with the Accor group of hotels, there have a variety of brands from Formula 1, through Ibis, Mercure up to the top brand and priced accordingly. The gripe from many appears to be that they are getting Ibis facilities at Mercure or Accor prices when comparing with commercial sites.

In analysis, a club site provides a pitch, a EHU, a toilet block and perhaps a dog walk. Hardly extensive facilities, yet commanding what is perceived as a fairly premium price.

Personally CY I am content to pay more for less. I don't particularly want bars or restaurants. I can even do without the swimming pool, I do enough of that when at home.  A pleasant base for walking and exploring with a good facilities block, is all we ask.

The point is though Cyber, that, for many, the club provides exactly what they want. What do you think that I might be missing out on in the way of more extensive facilities? Well for me the answer is 'nothing'. What do you feel to be missing?

Those facilities are all we, and many others apparently, require from a site. If we wanted a pool, restaurant, bar etc, obviously we'd look elsewhere. The claim that prices are "perceived" as "premium" is spurious to say the least. As I mentioned earlier, we find that club prices are at about the median for similar sites in an area. I've yet to see any conclusive evidence otherwise.

I’m building up the impression that your view of club sites has changed since you swapped to a MH, CY. Has your way of touring or your use of sites changed in some way? I’d be interested to learn what’s brought about this seeming change and altered your thinking.

I see no problem with folk modifying their belief or opinion in the light of new experience or knowledge. Far more worrying are those that steadfastly hold on that which is outdated or now irrelevant.
