Is it a rip off?

Hi I have a rant to get off my chest

Just booked a site for 21 nights for an eye watering £540!   After I got back on my feet I was informed that Caravan and Motor home club have increased their Easter fees this week two weeks early.  Why I ask. even the management were embarrassed and thought it were shocking.

I spent 5 nights last week on a fabulous caravan and camping club site in heart of Northumberland with all the facilities and with over 60s discount £8 pn!

After only just re-joining I cannot  see the benefits of staying with  C&M club prices are beyond out reach.

I see no problem with folk modifying their belief or opinion in the light of new experience or knowledge. Far more worrying are those that steadfastly hold on that which is outdated or now irrelevant.

There’s no problem, Micky. Only an observation and interest.πŸ‘πŸ»

No idea what that obscure comment means in relation to the present topic Micky.

Just a general comment. Is it a rip off? It all depends on one's own perspective,  past experiences and one's understanding of what constitutes a rip off.  These can change over time and whether one believes they are now being forced to make a choice. Opinions change.

A few years ago I tended to go with the view that there wasn't anything wrong with club prices but now I'm not so convinced. I agree with CY about what the club provides on a site. It's fairly basic in all respects and although I'm happy with "basic" I'm surprised at the rising costs on some sites as there's no "added value" and in the case of leased sites some quite ageing facilities.

I find that as far as the actual sites go the club does what it does to a standard that suits me. I agree sites are starting to become expensive but that seems to be the case with most providers at the times we go. Often when looking at alternatives there are many that really do not appeal to me.

I have no interest in such deals as 3 for 2 nights unless on a  site that is where I want to be and when I want to be there.

For me a rip off is when I think I am buying a reasonable standard for the price I am paying and then it turns out that the product is poor quality. With CC I know the quality of the goods and that I will be happy with the provision.

When I stayed for my regular 15 nights at Southport last December the Christmas week was expensive. There was no cheaper alternative that suited me as well however.

If folk really genuinely think the club is charging "premium" prices or pricing working families out, I'd suggest a little research - compare the price for a family  (say 2 adults, 2 children, van and awning) during the school summer holidays at the club's Treamble Valley site with those for nearby "family friendly" sites such as Haven Perran Sands, Trevornick at Holywell Bay, or Hendra at Newquay! surprised

If anyone is familiar with the Accor group of hotels, there have a variety of brands from Formula 1, through Ibis, Mercure up to the top brand and priced accordingly. The gripe from many appears to be that they are getting Ibis facilities at Mercure or Accor prices when comparing with commercial sites.

In analysis, a club site provides a pitch, a EHU, a toilet block and perhaps a dog walk. Hardly extensive facilities, yet commanding what is perceived as a fairly premium price.

Just my observation - If this post is based purely on the number of posters participating in this discussion then I feel it is a misleading post as they are a very small number of the whole membership.

I am satisfied with what the club sites provide and I personally do not feel it is a ‘rip off’ as I know in advance that what I pay for will be what I require at a price I am prepared to pay.  Site occupancy appear good when we are out and about so guess many other members are also satisfied.
