Insidious Development

Question!!! Why and Who made the decision to install static accommodation units on Club site's.Surely these sites are provided for members who take to the road in their own funded vehicles, why are we now being asked to fund the life style of these "Static Dwellers".Are these Static Units really for the use of friends and family? If so why is their a 10percent discount for members. No they will be rented out to people who have not the slightest interest in our way of life.If friends or family want to experience caravaning and motorhoming their is always the opportunity to hire.I would be pleased to be enlightened on what the perceived benifits are to the caravan and motorhome club member A further point is that the number of pitches available to members will be reduced this is especially important at peek periods.A large area at Coniston Park Coppice has been allocated to these Static Units complete with their veranda decking. We members are funding this cost and will not derive any benifit. It is time to stop this Insidious Development.

The commercial sections bottom line is profit. The bottom line for CC sites should not be overall profit provided the CC empire is profitable.

The bottom line has got to be profit otherwise there can be no future investment, no innovation, no improvements, no new customers. smile

The world of leisure is changing and the likes of Easy T and many others who tour quite extensively throughout the year may well be an endangered species in years to come. People currently in work are unlikely to be able to retire early as the immediate post war generation was able to. Pensions clearly won't be as good. So time available and discretionary income could very well be totally different to what we are used to now. The Club can't wait for the current generation of members to hand up their hitch locks they have to start thinking and acting about it now whilst they have time to experiment to see what works and what doesn't work. If people think that change in not necessary just look at the Retail sector. Those retailers who have embraced change and spent time looking at the future will survive others either have not or are uncomfortably close to the edge. None of surely want the Club to be yet another "Campsites are Us" do they?

IMO, if the site is big enough I don't really see the problem with having a few pods dotted around. The likes of Conniston can easily take them. I'd go so far as to say if you pitched up there in certain areas ,you could easily spend a week there and not even see them. From the club's point of view they are trying to "speculate to accumulate" is this wrong ?.

I think that whether we personally like pods, safari tents, or whatever, there’s no doubt that change has to come.

We may well be happy with our cvans and MHs but the future doesn’t lie with them. You only have to look at tow cars and the anti-diesel standpoint to realise that things can’t go on as they are.

Who knows whether we ourselves will be glad to stay in an S-Pod one day when towing a cvan or running a MH is no longer feasible. The club is proving to be forward thinking in that respect.

I don't have a Dream – but I do have a Crystel Ball.

I see lurking in the shadows a diminutive figure from a different era.

This often forgotten individual is looking at the business strategy of the leaders of the C&MC.

A crack of light, a shaft of sun and inspiration crosses his brow.

Yes, the MD of Butlins has his beady eye on the leisure sites owned by the C&MC.

You have been warned.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

+1 Tinster. Environmental pressures will price the big tow cars & Moho’s out of existence. Govt’s will greedily tax them massively. The future is grim for the nostalgia crowd I’m 😟.

How are they are going to super tax big MH's?  They are currently taxed as trucks and pay less than the average car.  If that changes "white van man" will be hit hard.

What is currently the way could well change, DD. For example, we could see a new taxation class for MHs which wouldn’t affect white van man. There’s nothing set in stone to say the link between larger MHs and trucks will be maintained.

Here's the link to these newer types of camping, it seems that Coniston is due to have ten new units by the summer. The Yurts are only on one site at the moment.
