Insidious Development

Question!!! Why and Who made the decision to install static accommodation units on Club site's.Surely these sites are provided for members who take to the road in their own funded vehicles, why are we now being asked to fund the life style of these "Static Dwellers".Are these Static Units really for the use of friends and family? If so why is their a 10percent discount for members. No they will be rented out to people who have not the slightest interest in our way of life.If friends or family want to experience caravaning and motorhoming their is always the opportunity to hire.I would be pleased to be enlightened on what the perceived benifits are to the caravan and motorhome club member A further point is that the number of pitches available to members will be reduced this is especially important at peek periods.A large area at Coniston Park Coppice has been allocated to these Static Units complete with their veranda decking. We members are funding this cost and will not derive any benifit. It is time to stop this Insidious Development.

I think there is a sizeable element within the Club that don't want anything to change, they just like as it is. That is fine as far as it goes but the Club management and committees have to look beyond this cosy concept of the Club. Who would have thought that making a sensible change to the name of the Club to recognise the reality that motorhomes are becoming a pretty sizeable portion of the membership would create so much vehemence of expression. Especially as the old name seemed to discourage some of those motorhomes who had not progressed through the normal different styles of camping from joining the Club. What the OP is critical of is a minor change in comparison. I don't imagine that in ten years time you will turn up at a Club site and have to hunt between the pods or chalets for an ordinary pitch but in 20/30 years who knows but by then there will be a greater acceptance that things have changed.

If anyone is interested in what I think - I think they will merge!

This has been talked about for a long time and each club has been around a long time too. Both have different ways of doing things, and IMHO cater for different clientele. So I don't think so, well maybe merge as in they become one umbrella company but still retain the differences.

The worse thing is that both adopt the rules and procedures for both, I would think that most people like choice?

I wondered this myself at one point.  Who knows what will happen in the future.  In generations to come, will there be sufficient interest to justify two Clubs?  Whatever happens, I strongly suspect most of us won't be around to see it happen!  ☺

.....I notice the other Club are also branching out into alternative forms of accommodation.

I think that they were branching out well before the CC decided to follow suit, David.

I have a dream that one day this club will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all outfits are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Chatsworth the sons of caravaners and the sons of motor-homers will be able to wash together at the dishwashing area.

I have a dream that one day even the state of overthere, a state sweltering with the heat of not booking, sweltering with the heat of arrival anytime, will be transformed into an oasis of the club values and peace.

I have a dream that outfits will one day live in a club where campers will not be judged by the colour of their dogs but by the content of their character

I had no problem with the name change but what I really disliked was the hyperbolic verbose and meaningless claptrap that accompanied it.

Personally i hate to see static accomodation on sites.

I'm a motor caravanner who has been a member for over 23 years. Never felt excluded and never saw the need to change the name. I see statics as caravans providing they are not lodges. I don't see tents and glamping pods as caravans. However, I understand that planning permission for sites has to be more inclusive nowadays.

The Club is trying to find a path through the changes happening in society. It is right to do so, Whether its solution is right is a different question.

The type of units (S Pods) being put in are quite attractive, small self contained and well designed and not like the large statics seen on big holiday sites.

Take a look at the video clip. smile

As one would expect Club  campsites are out of step and out of line with the rest of the world. Very slowly they will adapt and try to catch up, but it will take time. The professional managers have seen the light.

Meanwhile Featherdown Farms and Center Parcs are pulling in the younger crowd, and Motorhome pub stopovers and the first few municipal Aires (Canterbury and Exmouth) will gather pace and cater for the oldies with motorhomes.

Change happens.
