Insidious Development

Question!!! Why and Who made the decision to install static accommodation units on Club site's.Surely these sites are provided for members who take to the road in their own funded vehicles, why are we now being asked to fund the life style of these "Static Dwellers".Are these Static Units really for the use of friends and family? If so why is their a 10percent discount for members. No they will be rented out to people who have not the slightest interest in our way of life.If friends or family want to experience caravaning and motorhoming their is always the opportunity to hire.I would be pleased to be enlightened on what the perceived benifits are to the caravan and motorhome club member A further point is that the number of pitches available to members will be reduced this is especially important at peek periods.A large area at Coniston Park Coppice has been allocated to these Static Units complete with their veranda decking. We members are funding this cost and will not derive any benifit. It is time to stop this Insidious Development.

especially one who has taken great trouble to conduct an experiment to tour  a whole country (for a year was it?) without using a club site?

No recent experience at least?

It was absolutely no trouble Corners. It was an enlightening experience.---- There is a huge world of opportunity and interest outside of the narrow confines of the CMC, which I feel that those who think the CMC is the only show in town, are definitely missing out on. I am happy to enlighten you with the findings of my experiment.

Even you might like to broaden your horizons sometime and take your Caravan to stunning places by using other than CMC campsites. I do hope you can find the courage to do so soon.

Reslly, Stano, your question of why and who is one for the club rather than the forum

The club surely has a duty to maximise utilisation of it's sites.

Policy of the club is carried out by an executive who I understand are responsible to a council of elected members. Therefore whatever decisions are made are made subject to scrutiny by representatives of the membership.

I have no problems with club sites, club policy and club rules because I am free to choose where I stay and free to choose whether or not I continue to be a member.

"Courage"?

K - signing up for the armed forces knowing that at any time  you may be sent abroad to risk life and limb takes courage.

Joining the emergency services knowing you will probably at some point come face to face with the worst that one human can inflict on another, deliberately or accidentally takes courage.

Using a non-CAMC site? Really? undecided

Using a non-CAMC site? Really?

I have used some non-CC sites that did require a degree of fortitude wink

Call me old fashioned, but I still see the Club roll is primarily to enrich the lives of its members by providing the sort of facilities it's members want.  The problem is that the Club has a diverse membership and some members welcome additional facilities and ways to get away.  Some members have even commented that they find alternative form of staying on site useful if there are family members who wish to get way but don't have their own units.  It is also useful for younger folk who don't have their own units.

Personally, I see there is nothing wrong with experimenting with alternative accommodation.  If this is what members want they will use them - if not, they won't.   The Club ploughs profits back into investment so if it is sucessful we all stand to benefit.  If it's not beneficial to the members, no doubt it won't continue.  Who know the direction of 'touring' in the future.  With the interest in smaller and electric cars do we really know what the future holds for towing some of our larger units.  Why not experiment and find out if members want to use this sort of facility and see it's another way the lives of our members can be enriched.

It could even bring me back to using Club sites rather than CLs when our friends and family who are none caravaners want to come away with us. Not everyone can afford/ has the storage/time etc to follow our hobby but occasionally wants to holiday with us.

Now that I am a grumpy intolerant old woman I like my own accommodation and don't want to share a house etc with them although I want to share my holidays.

I really must update my photo to one that shows the real me and not ten years or so out of datelaughing

Yet another thread which just goes to show what a diverse group we are. Even with our similarities there are many different opinions, needs, desires etc being held by fellow members. Also those differences between the club's way of working and the other providers can be viewed in different ways too. In my opinion long live those differences as they provide options, alternatives and choices but long live that tolerance of others also which is so crucial to the harmonious enjoyment of our much loved commonly held pastime.
