How does this Club compare with the ‘Other’?

I’ve started this discussion to try and collect together any direct comparisons between CC and C&CC.

One mentioned several times is that C&CC charge deposits with bookings, whereas CC does not. In that same discussion, it was mentioned that the C&CC membership was larger than CC’s, which surprised me. Can anyone provide the stats?

What other factual differences can be identified?

We like many other people started off with a family frame tent in 1971 and had some brilliant holidays. But I just think that the younger campers that use tents today don't seem to have the same regard for others or the same communal spirit .I am not saying one cap fits all,it is just what it seems like to us.

I'm not sure I'd agree with you about that as quite a few younger members of our family and their friends have had to opt for camping and I think they respect others around them. I don't know what commercial sites are like but the two clubs sites seem fairly consistent regarding reasonable behaviour.

I really don't think its fair to assume that tent users are more likely to be anti-social.  We also started off camping.  In a small tent when we were just a couple and then a large frame tent when the children arrived.  We were in our 30s before we got our first caravan which had previously been my mothers.
Maybe because the walls are canvas rather than aluminium, the noise travels easier but generally campers are not antisocial.
The Club sites that we have been to that have tent pitches have had them in a separate area all together.  There was little impact on others using the site and everything seemed to operate well.  I'm all for increasing tent provision if something has to be done to increase membership.

We camped for years and years before switchig to a caravan. I'd be mortified if anyone thought we were so noisy and raucous it spoiled their time!

I see nothing wrong with allowing tents on site if it's taking up previously unutilised space. If it was at the expense of touring pitches I'd think differently, but that's nothing to do with the "type" of folk who prefer canvas to metal!

I've recently swopped metal for canvas, I found the LV soul less & cumbersome now I'm back in a Tent I am feeling closer to the land & the flora & fauna, much more to my personal needs. Not attacking LV's in anyway it's all choice-the canvas is mine. I do it on my own to enjoy the connection with the natural world. Each to their own, tenters? Darn good folkCool

Rocky, we still have a couple of tents and when we're at our holiday home in France and the weather is good we often go away in one of those instead of our motorhome.  I agree that you get a completely different feeling of really being in the great outdoors when camping.  Plus, of course, you can get to all sorts of sites in France down small country lanes that I wouldn't venture down in the van.

Write your comments here...Well I can help there Brue if your not sure.............you don't agree that is obvious!. I said one cap did not fit all .My opinion was based on what we witnessed at the site I mentioned on my earlier post and also on a commercial site that we were on in Cricceth N.Wales. Once again it is our opinion and observation, in no way do we intend to degrade camping in tents!.

OG&S, to wake up surrounded by natures sentinels, the Trees in their wonderful glory. Smelling the musk of the natural world, listening to all the movements of mother natures creatures as they go about their day is wonderful. Soaking up & being part of the natural world is a gift. It is my pleasure to share this with youHappy

We are members of both Club's but generally prefer the CC.  I do think we are in for a period of change in both clubs.

What do you know David that the rest of us don't, inside knowledge methinks !!

Admiral  Winking

I know nothing specific Admiral, but I know that the Club is aware of things like the increasing cost of caravans and the weight of them in relation to the desire of the motor industry to produce lighter cars etc.  Many young families have enough problems in getting deposits together for a house (with the potential increase of student loan debt) let alone buy a caravan.  Perhaps all this means we might be looking in to the future at a Club that accepts tents more readily (cheaper and lighter) or perhaps more static style accommodation  (no need to tow).

All this is fictional guess work on my behalf.  But if it does come to pass, remember who suggested it!!!!!   LaughingLaughingLaughing
