Excessive site fees

Just returned from Chester Fair Oaks site, one night, £31.30 !!, I nearly choked on my dentures, It was our first trip out this year, only able to book something last minute.Ok, apparently, our over night stay was classed as still in  the 'High' season, but £31.30 per night (two adults) to stay in my own caravan is ridiculous. The club is in danger of  killing the goose that layed the golden egg. it's easy sometimes to forget that we have also paid a membership fee for the privilege of being charged so much.

I must admit that we are "GUILTY AS CHARGED" we book CC sites as the easy option.

But we do look at the price, and can see that CC sites are edging excessively upwards.

So we are having to re-think our plans

Embarassed OH has just reminded me that not everyone has the options that we have, of being able to look things up on a computer and compare rates and dates with other sites/clubs. It turns out he was speaking to a friend in the village yesterday, who was complaining that the CC prices were getting a bit steep and wondered if the other club was any betterUndecided the thing is he doesn't have a computer and makes all his bookings through the call centre, I'm sure though that the staff there will guide him to the best value sites won't theyInnocent

Hmmm!!  Sad

We are spending more time "over there" while we can (insurance wise) as it is cheaper for us overall.  Things are "up in the air" as far as car/caravan v MH are concerned, we need to change the car soon as it is unreliable.

OH is pushing for a MH, but I am not so keen.  It's a big problem.

We love the T/A caravan for the room, so would prefer a larger MH, but I no longer have the licence to drive one (being almost 74)

3rd para....

i use them when the occasion warrants....if there is a suitable alternative (not always one available) i'll use it, as in the past two weeks...

one night CC Tewkesbury, three nights CL Ludlow, three nights CC Broadway (friends wanted to try it there with us), three nights Sandy Balls, five nights Lytton Lawn...

i am one of the few who actually does vote with their wheels...but i 'occasionally' use CC sites....

at least my opinions of their 'value' (or not) is based on real experience.

Write your comments here...but do you use the commercials when it's cheaper i.e. Monday to Friday rather than a whole week so you pay the exorbitant in many cases weekend prices?

For us we never notice the cost of a week as we rarely stay on CC sites that long so our costs are 1 or 2 nights at a time so it doesn't seem so bad.

I think that is one aspect of pricing. A "few quid" might not seem worth the bother if only for a couple of nights. Stay for a fortnight and the higher price then becomes significant.

Our next CC club site is mid September, July & August we have gone elsewhere due to to price. When you go away a lot, as we do, those few pounds extra per night add up very quickly.

We are also guilty of booking CC sites and then moaning about the price. The problem is I have an elderly Dad who hasn't been well, we also have other family commitments with the grandchildren, which I don't want to expand on.Because of this, we book CC sites as there is a chance that we may have to cancel or rearrange at short notice and the club allows us to do this. We don't usually use cls as we like to use a fully equipped shower block. However, I do object to paying top wack for sites that haven't been updated for years and, due to the change in the high season dates, rates that have risen so much. We used to take the grandchildren away for what was almost a free week at peak time using the site night vouchers but now that will be no more either. Due to all of this we are very seriously thinking of giving up and buying a static van.

Bolero Boy has it right. The CC is now way behind the competition in quality but still charges premium prices. Time for a proper sort out of the HO function to get savings and at the same time a proper reassesment of the sites. Forget the non essentials. Like many others we no longer stick slavishy to CC sites or even Cls but look at what is available and certainly over the last 12 mnths we have found the alternatives better. This from smeone  who spends some 150 nights away. all in the UK. Before I get accused of knocking this is a constructive critisism hopefully helping the club to keep going in the present very competitive market.

Whatever folk think about "excessive" CC site prices, why do they still use them and stump up those outrageous amounts of money when, within, say a 10 mile radius of pretty much any CC site (maybe excepting Scotland) there are many, many alternatives, be it CLs, CSs, private sites etc? I just can't follow the logic of paying an amount you're not happy with when there are alternatives! (Of course, the quality of those alternatives may not be so consistent.) Undecided

Could it possibly be that some folk are just to lazy to search out these better deals, its just so easy to look up the CC website and pick a site.Undecided

..Or more than satisfied with what is on offer by the clubs without trying to "save" a couple of quid

I'm sure there are some that are "satisfied" but £10 - £15 per night is hardly a couple of quidWink

...Anyone can find those discounts just look at the "Holiday Camps" in peak compaired to both clubs
