Excessive site fees

Just returned from Chester Fair Oaks site, one night, £31.30 !!, I nearly choked on my dentures, It was our first trip out this year, only able to book something last minute.Ok, apparently, our over night stay was classed as still in  the 'High' season, but £31.30 per night (two adults) to stay in my own caravan is ridiculous. The club is in danger of  killing the goose that layed the golden egg. it's easy sometimes to forget that we have also paid a membership fee for the privilege of being charged so much.

Reading here I thought club sites were cheaper than commercials in "Peak". Even that myth now appears exploded.

But are all the sites classed as expensive in Winter/Spring/Autumn we stayed on 'Seaview' site Berwick on Tweed in November last year £13.95pn full facilities, H/S pitch. That was 5p less than the CL we had just left @ £14pn, grass, no toilet or shower block, the price had gone up by £2 for the winter to cover the cost of extra electric. I didn't mind paying either as they were in the place that I wanted to be, but it does show that not ALL sites are expensive all the time, in fact its about the only time that we tour in the UK is Off season, quieter sites, guarenteed H/S and lovely clean warm shower blocks.Smile

Frankly I do not think the clubs fees are exhorbitant for what you get although the are on the high side of average. If you look at this months Practical Caravan review on sites in Cornwall then it is clear that club sites are at the top end of the costs in most cases but only one seriously undercuts them and one is far more expensive. That is a particularly competitive area though which means sites do have to keep prices reasonable which is not always the case elsewhere.

WW, what you get on a club site is just about the minimum any organisation could get away with and still be called a campsite...

a pitch, an EHU and a toilet/shower block.

dont start quoting wardens, receptions, waste bins etc, etc...just about every other site has these...

when charging prices over £15 customers have a right to expect a bit more....

free wifi?

water/waste on the pitch?

these at both the commercials ive used this week @ £15...

not to mention the bar, restaurant, mini supermarket, etc...

the club is in a timewarp, charging extra for a 'serviced pitch' and for a really dodgy wifi set up....customers expect more than a pitch, leccy and a loo.

Whatever folk think about "excessive" CC site prices, why do they still use them and stump up those outrageous amounts of money when, within, say a 10 mile radius of pretty much any CC site (maybe excepting Scotland) there are many, many alternatives, be it CLs, CSs, private sites etc? I just can't follow the logic of paying an amount you're not happy with when there are alternatives! (Of course, the quality of those alternatives may not be so consistent.) Undecided

M, i am on a private site....water on the pitch, free wifi all at £15.....

i use a lot of 'sites' other than CC (CCC, THS, CL/CS, haven, commercials etc....) which (IMHO) gives me a reasonable idea of whats on offer at what prices...certainly a better one than those who use solely CC sites and think they're the bees knees....at whatever prices..

however, i do use CC sites when the occasion warrents it, so i can also talk about these (and make comparisns) from my own experiences.

as has been said before....theyre ok, nice and consistently clean, but by no stretch of the imagination are they 'premier league' sites, the model just doesnt allow it....

so, for what they offer, they are expensive, not just at weekends, but in midweek when they are running at low/mid occupancy levels, and the extension of the 'upper price' seasons is a really sneaky 'trick'...

Who has ever claimed CC sites are "premier league"?

But you misunderstand my point, BB. We know you have extensive knowledge of all sorts of sites. Given that, and your views on CC sites vis-à-vis price and quality, why continue to use them when there are acceptable alternatives at a lower price within a small radius? Undecided

3rd para....

i use them when the occasion warrants....if there is a suitable alternative (not always one available) i'll use it, as in the past two weeks...

one night CC Tewkesbury, three nights CL Ludlow, three nights CC Broadway (friends wanted to try it there with us), three nights Sandy Balls, five nights Lytton Lawn...

i am one of the few who actually does vote with their wheels...but i 'occasionally' use CC sites....

at least my opinions of their 'value' (or not) is based on real experience.

If the "model " that both major clubs was so out of sinc with some who complain ,then the hundreds of thousands of site nights sold each year, and would be more if there was the capacity, going by the amount of people complaining that the sites are allways full when they try to book, both clubs seem to satisfy the vast majority by their priceing structures,

ps we have used "other" than cc ,but we find that cc or cl sites have always been where we wanted to be

Could it possibly be that some folk are just to lazy to search out these better deals, its just so easy to look up the CC website and pick a site.Undecided

..Or more than satisfied with what is on offer by the clubs without trying to "save" a couple of quid

I'm sure there are some that are "satisfied" but £10 - £15 per night is hardly a couple of quidWink
