Just returned from Chester Fair Oaks site, one night, £31.30 !!, I nearly choked on my dentures, It was our first trip out this year, only able to book something last minute.Ok, apparently, our over night stay was classed as still in  the 'High' season, but £31.30 per night (two adults) to stay in my own caravan is ridiculous. The club is in danger of  killing the goose that layed the golden egg. it's easy sometimes to forget that we have also paid a membership fee for the privilege of being charged so much.

Trouble is, Ian, some people will just pay whatever excessive amount the fish & chip shop charges! Wink

As long as the shop doesn't serve riff raff though ....

Do you need to show your CC membership card at the door to prove you're of better class........

Very true, M. They will continue to buy them and say they are the best food ever......even though they haven't tried any other food, because they are too timid to do so.

The chippy van that. Visits the Sandringham site is definitely not for riff raffSurprisedmind you there also does not seem to be a problem with  "over there"vans pitching nose in either Wink

Back on track.Just returned from Brecon Beacons CC. Excellent site, well laid out, tidy and in an excellent location. Up dated facility blocks to rival the best of commercial sites.Price July 1st £23-30pn Unit and 2 adults. Quite busy in weekdays and more so at the week end. Units leaving as late as 7pm on Sunday.Price, quality totally acceptable  Wardens using discretion properly. If the club can do this why then charge the exhorbitant fees when sites are virtually empty "Winter/Spring/Autumn". driving the likes of us to the commercial sector, or am i required to subsidise the peak  periods". Unfortuntly we dont do it any more and vote with our feet.

But are all the sites classed as expensive in Winter/Spring/Autumn we stayed on 'Seaview' site Berwick on Tweed in November last year £13.95pn full facilities, H/S pitch. That was 5p less than the CL we had just left @ £14pn, grass, no toilet or shower block, the price had gone up by £2 for the winter to cover the cost of extra electric. I didn't mind paying either as they were in the place that I wanted to be, but it does show that not ALL sites are expensive all the time, in fact its about the only time that we tour in the UK is Off season, quieter sites, guarenteed H/S and lovely clean warm shower blocks.Smile

Frankly I do not think the clubs fees are exhorbitant for what you get although the are on the high side of average. If you look at this months Practical Caravan review on sites in Cornwall then it is clear that club sites are at the top end of the costs in most cases but only one seriously undercuts them and one is far more expensive. That is a particularly competitive area though which means sites do have to keep prices reasonable which is not always the case elsewhere.
