Excessive site fees

Just returned from Chester Fair Oaks site, one night, £31.30 !!, I nearly choked on my dentures, It was our first trip out this year, only able to book something last minute.Ok, apparently, our over night stay was classed as still in  the 'High' season, but £31.30 per night (two adults) to stay in my own caravan is ridiculous. The club is in danger of  killing the goose that layed the golden egg. it's easy sometimes to forget that we have also paid a membership fee for the privilege of being charged so much.

£74.40 for three nights next week at Broadway.

£45 for three nights at Ludlow (CL).

Ludlow Touring Park would have been £90 ish for three nights so we (and our pals) went for the CL this time....last time we had a 3 for 2 deal (£50 for 3 nights in Feb) which made it cheaper than a club site, so swings and roundabouts....

either way, LTP shows the club how to 'do it' in pretty much all depts....spacious pitches, wide roads, fantastic amenities block, well stocked accessories shop, sophisticated LNA, modern drive over waste disposal and MHSP....etc, etc...

IMHO far more 'quality' in that site than any CC site we've been on.....but, it is expensive 'in season'....

If either club  went down the same route as some comercial sites ,then charge eye watering prices in the peak, to recoup their investments ,from the very people who do not have  the option of the off peak loss leaders that the same sites charge that some think the clubs should charge, just think of the uproar that would unfold on here, when it seems by the site occupancy on the sites we have been on and are on  now this last few days seems that most are more than comfortable with what the clubs offer

Ian, I'm shocked to learn you are currently staying on one of the most expensive sites on the CC network.

I thought you would have shunned that one to show a moral stand against CC's pricing policy rather than paying up and condoning their practice.

and then complaining about it as well

Well, as it's a special year and we wanted to be in this area, we thought we would treat ourselves and blow the cost. Smile

We also went tge tge RSC theatre the other day - incredibly expensive, but we paid it as a one-off. We don't often indulge in such luxuries. Smile

Bit much when a caravan site is thought of as a luxury, eh? Undecided

I'm shocked! Blow the cost? Welcome to the real world, Ian. You're beginning to understand why people use CC sites - because it suits them to do so. Choice, eh?Happy

and... when you want the best, a luxury, you decide to go to a club site? Doesn't this go against all you have said about club sites being nothing special?

No, actually we wanted to be in this area for personal reasons and despite the site being only adequate (but acceptable) we decided to pay the premium anyway. The nearest CL has now closed.

Not really a compliment and I really don't see why the "real world" is one in which people would pay over the top for average facilities (and no Corners......certainly not a luxury......as I'm sure that the people who left early due to their pitches flooding will attest!).

As a one-off, we were prepared to pay a premium for an average site, for particular reasons. Hardly a glowing compliment.

We were exclusively CC and Cl users until about 18 months ago. We then took advantage of the Morris Leisure and Haven offers promoted in the club mag and Members offers. What we found was extremely good price offers in winter/Spring up until late May ( so much so that fully continental, pitches were cheaper than basic Cls). What really surprised us was the quality of the sites, pitches and facilities, so much so that it made club sites really second rate. Now as prices increase we are using club sites again. The real question is- can the club really afford to lose our income off peak bearing in mind we holiday some 120/130 nights each year. Speaking to other commercial users everyone was a club  member so the loss of income must be substantial. What will the clubs response be to 2017 prices- another well above inflation increase or some creativity in the slaker months? I dont see this discussion as against those who wll use CC sites only or those that pick and mix but a wake up call to HO to realise there is increased competition out there and many of us are prepared to try it if the price and facilities are right,

We used to use CC sites for 120 nights a year plus. Now we use them for less than 40 nights as they are so expensive out of school holiday time!  Commercial sites are just as good, and often far better with the facilities that they provide!

PR1 -do you see the club responding to the trend that you and I see or will it be the same price hikes.

Hmm.........threads like this always make me smile......

I've just got back from a mini break away in the van.  Stayed at three different club sites. The first and the last were in my estimation 60 to 70% full, thats midweek, out of school holidays, not a bank holiday week etc.

The middle site I arrived at 12.01pm on the Thursday.  I was offered a choice of 2 (yes two) pitches.  That was it, that was all that was left.

It is clear to me that enough people are happy to pay CC prices, and unless some other viable way of regulating demand is introduced, prices will have to be increased dramatically.  Perhaps the club could start allocating the dates you are allowed on a site, a bit like my employer allocates leave!

Personally I would like to see a 50 to 100% price increase so that occupancy falls and I get a better choice of pitches on site, and wouldn't have to join the mad scramble for a pitch at 12 noon......

Wink
