Dynamic pricing to be introduced

Apparently dynamic pricing is to be rolled out to all UK campsites during 2023.

Which means that those that book up to a year ahead will be able to take advantage of the lowest prices.

Those who for whatever reason cannot commit to booking so far in advance will be penalised if they wish to book closer to the time of travel because apparently the higher the popularity of a campsite and the closer to the time of arrival the booking is made, the higher the price may be.

As with all the changes that have happened during the last 6 months, where were any or more importantly ALL the members consulted and balloted regarding these changes?

Many older members (like ourselves) cannot commit to long term bookings due to medical considerations, appointments that may arise because of these etc; we have previously just set off when able on a ‘tour’ and then by way of the (what was) late availability checker booked ‘on the fly.’

We have already been penalised with the 21 day non-returnable deposit system which really could have been much fairer reduced to 7 days.

I used to fiercely defend the CAMC as a great organisation to be a member of but this latest move has been the nail in the coffin for us personally.

Has anyone seen any evidence of "Dynamic Pricing" working in favour of the customer yet? Or is it just a One Way Street?

Actually Rocky I was thinking more in line with CAMC pitch prices but good to know the club can look elsewhere to see how its done.

Same theory W. When the demand drops so will the price, if it don’t drop then yes-‘it’s a one way street’ Or retail suicide🤷🏻‍♂️

I have seen posts acknowledging refunds have been made for last minute cancellations. Typically, on acceptance of the reason, this seems to be via the issue of vouchers covering the deposit.

I had to make a last minute cancellation for a one night booking, it came in at just below the deposit rate so I lost the total amount. Had it been a longer or more expensive rate I would have lost the deposit plus a pro rata percentage of the booking costs. The club recently offered vouchers due sites being closed in bad weather.

I just read on FB that due to an illness a member had to cancel their booking, the member was offered a credit of the deposit held against a future booking.

I'd be happy to accept that.

This year we have joined the CCC for the first time ever, alongside the CAMC.  We have yet to use a CCC Club site. Our first booking was for 4 nights from 17th April. Unfortunately I had to cancel that this afternoon, so 20 (?) days before hand.  Yes I had to phone up to make the cancellation, but about 2/3 mins on hold, having been told I was in position 3. I was informed that I could have the deposit (£25) transferred to another date (which I was unable to do) or lose the deposit, no further charge being made.  I lost the deposit (which was what I expected)  I was then also asked (after the cancellation) why was I cancelling - in this case because the van is poorly, and cant go into the dealer until the week of this booking.

All in all about 5/10 mins  max, inc hold, with a very pleasant male member of staff.

C&CC do all their amendments etc via the phone and are usually amenable. I hope CAMC gets into a similar mode I think all these things need the human touch. Everything seems to depend on being on the right side of the 21 day limit.

TG your comment about the FB post seems like a positive resolution. smile

We booked a site 14 days before we were due there, then after 2 days I found out I had to work on the first night of the trip. I wanted to amend the booking but it was going to cost me £25. Instead of staying for 4 nights we were going to stay for 3. I emailed the club and was basically told tough, you agreed to the T&C’s at the time of booking.

So I thought, right it’s £25 to amend or £25 to cancel so we cancelled. I’ve just booked York Beech Wood (previously mentioned in the thread) and it was £78 for 3 night (2 adults and 1 child). The CAMC site right next door is £150 for the same 3 nights!

How is the clubs new DP system helping me (or other members)? It has literally made us book a competitor site. I don’t mind paying a little extra but I can’t justify nearly twice the cost. As my wife and I both work full time (I work shifts) I’m not able to book months in advance and sometimes we need flexibility. I understand some sites such as York Rowntree got booked up and you could never get on until someone cancelled so I do support a system to deter this from happening but it seems that the club hasn’t explored all options and just looked at profits.

on a side note, we usually have auto renew on our membership but I’ve stopped this now and will most probably not renew.
