We are delighted to announce that our ‘Caravanner of the Year’ competition was filmed by the BBC and will be on BBC2 on 20 and 27 April!

We hope it gets you in the mood for getting out there and enjoying the summer season on our wonderful sites network.

The enthusiasts were faced with a variety of challenges covering activities such as manoeuvring, navigation, hospitality and caravanning knowledge.  There was also the precision challenge of the Concours D’Elegance which demanded much polishing and primping of their vehicles!

The first programme will introduce the entrants and whittle them down to the three finalists.

Tune in and watch, and don’t forget to tell your friends and family about it too!

I've just received and read the editorial and story of the COTY and I am completely non-plussed. Has nobody taken any notice of the 1300 complaints here or the reaction of the people all around us who have had confirmed all of their misplaced feelings of us caravaners? I have no interest in calling for the responsible heads on sticks but completely ignoring this level of complaints is totally myopic and biased in the extreme. PR at its absolute worst.

1300 complaints?  if you multiplied that figure by three to 3900 you would have 1% of the membership.  So there's only a tiny number of members making an interminable fuss.

Write your comments here...What must be considered is not that 1300 people represent only 0.3% of the club membership, (if that figure is correct), what should be considered is what 1300 represent as a proportion of CT members that ever contribute to the forum.

What I have noticed is that although there are forum contributors who have posted several times throughout the thread there are many whose names I did not recognise as regular contributors but who feel strongly enough about the programme to put fingers to the keyboard. This is possibly also reflected in the number of views the thread has received, over 36,000.  What would be needed is for the  number of contributors to the thread be determined, not the number of posts, and then put them into a for or against list. My gut feeling is that the vast majority would be found to be critical of the programme. This would suggest that as a statistical sample, an equal proportion of the club membership would also be critical of the programme if all of the membership watched the programmes and were then asked for their views. This, of course would never happen which is why sampling is used.

To determine viewing numbers for any TV programme, there is only a small proportion of the total viewing public who are asked what programmes they watched on a particular day and from this the total number of the viewing public is extrapolated.

Or, the words of Mark Twain "there are lies, damn lies, and statistics".

Whichever way one slices it, the overwhelming consensus is negative. There is no way that we may deduce the non-CT'ing majority viewed it differently.

I thought it was quite comical, all it really needed was mrs bucket and her old man to make it bloody hilarious..methinks a few of you lads ought to lighten up a bit.

I was looking for some form of comfort from the daily press, but they seemed to love it! Then the Gaurdian came to the rescue with this at the foot of their article:

"There was an underlying, unapologetic warmth to the affair that just about salvaged it. For all that the six couples were walking inventories of Great British Eccentricities (obsession with lists, remarkable comb-overs, Blitz-era fetishisation), mocking them was never the goal. These were decent people engaging in a harmless pursuit, and it was hard to begrudge them their moment. But good-natured whimsy can only carry a concept so far. Let’s turn the cameras off and leave them to it next time, shall we?"

Amen. ;-)

I just re watched it with the mrs as she missed it, and we really enjoyed it, the people were really nice and genuinely enjoyed themselves.

It is a far more entertaining program than many of the real life programs that are now aired, BB, Xfactor, Britians got talent the list goes on but our TV stays off. Caravaner of the year was pure entertainment even if it was a bit corny.

The bit where the Chairman ripped a chunk out of his van was particularly entertaining and set an example to us all.
