FAQs

Booking information

How do I book an overseas site?

Overseas campsite bookings can easily be made on the Club website and "combined deals" are common when you book a campsite at the same time as your ferry crossing. Booking online means you save the £20 Contact Centre booking fee.

Can I add campsites and crossings to my basket at the same time?

Yes, in fact it often works out cheaper if you book your crossing at the same time as your campsite or Overseas Site Night Vouchers as we have negotiated some great combined deals for members.

Does the Club take deposits for overseas bookings?

Yes, deposits for overseas bookings are calculated at 20% for a site and 25% for a ferry (unless it is a non-refundable ferry/Eurotunnel in which case full payment is due at time of booking). The final balance is due 10 weeks prior to travel.

How do I change my overseas site or ferry booking?

Please phone our Travel Service on 01342 316 101 (Mon to Fri 9am to 5.30pm) and our team will be able to help you with any changes you need.

Why does the total of my online basket keep changing?

As you add overseas sites to a Eurotunnel or ferry crossing, your basket recalculates any discounts that apply and displays the overall price of your holiday.

Will I receive tickets or booking confirmation for my overseas trip?

We don’t send tickets but you will receive a confirmation email within a few minutes of booking. Take this with you to present for your crossing and your campsite stay.

How much is the Contact Centre Booking Fee for European Travel?

£20 per booking

When did the Contact Centre Booking Fee for European Travel come into effect?

8th February 2021

Is the Contact Centre Booking Fee applicable for all European bookings?

If the holiday booking can be made online on the Caravan and Motorhome Club website but the member chooses to call the Contact Centre to book, then the fee will be charged.

Why has a Contact Centre Booking Fee been introduced on European Travel bookings?

The online booking journey has been greatly improved following member feedback, meaning it's easier than ever to book a European Holiday online with the Club. It's simple to use, you can book at any time of the day (or night) and you don't have to worry about telephone call queues. By freeing up time in the Contact Centre we can ensure that more complex queries, amendments and bookings can be handled and we can continually invest in the Travel Service.

Why is the Contact Centre Booking Fee only charged on telephone bookings?

There are some types of bookings that can't be made online and we'll continue to book these via the Contact Centre free of charge. However, the new online booking system can be used to book the majority of crossings, campsites and vouchers.

Will I pay the Contact Centre booking fee with my deposit?

The booking fee will be paid at the time of booking and will be additional to any deposits required

What if I don't have access to the internet, do I still have to pay the Contact Centre Booking Fee?

Yes if the booking can be done online the Contact Centre Booking Fee will apply.

What if I have internet access but am not confident using it, do I still have to pay the Contact Centre booking fee?

Yes if the booking can be done online the Contact Centre booking fee will apply. However, our Contact Centre team are happy to talk you through the online journey to help you gain confidence.

Which bookings cannot be made online?

Some types of bookings can't be made online and we'll continue to book these via the phone free of charge. The products which can't be booked online are:

  • Escorted European Tours
  • campsites on request
  • 5th wheelers
  • motorhome and trailer
  • pets on some ferries
  • bike racks
  • ferry credit notes
  • cots on ferries

What if I want to add a campsite or ferry to an existing holiday booking?

As it is not possible to amend an Overseas booking online, you can either make a new booking online or call us to amend your original booking.

What if no ferries are returned for the dates I want but they are available on the operator's website?

If it is not possible to book your ferry online, there would be no Contact Centre Booking Fee charge. Although, in general, if space is available on the chosen sailing on the operator's website then we should see space available on our website.

What if I'm travelling with my friend and we want to book the same holiday? Will we be charged a fee?

If it is possible to book the holiday online then the Contact Centre Booking Fee will apply to each individual booking made via the Contact Centre

What happens if my online booking fails prior to inputting payment details?

If the booking cannot be completed online then you will not be charged the booking fee.

What happens if my online booking fails after inputting payment details?

We have a process in place that will capture failed payments and you will not be charged the booking fee.

If I have to cancel my booking, will the Contact Centre booking fee be refunded?

In normal circumstances, the booking fee is non-refundable, in the same way as amendment fees.

Ferries and Eurotunnel

Can I book an Overseas trip online when driving a commercial van or motorhome towing a car/trailer?

You can only book by phone so please call our Travel Service on 01342 316 101 (Mon to Fri 9am to 5.30pm) and our team will be able to help you.

Is it cheaper to book a crossing via the Caravan and Motorhome Club, instead of going direct to the operator?

The Club negotiates great deals with the ferry companies, LeShuttle (Eurotunnel) and our European campsites and offers members a 'Price Match Guarantee'. So if you find the same product elsewhere for a cheaper price let us know and we'll match it.

How do I get the cheapest ferry fare?

In general the short crossings between Dover and Calais/Dunkirk are the cheapest way to cross the Channel. However there are often great savings on daytime sailings operated by Brittany Ferries to France or on Stena's Harwich - Hook of Holland route which may prove more cost-effective if they get you closer to your ultimate destination. Avoiding peak times on all routes will give you the best price, as will booking as early as possible before your travel date. Also booking your campsite or Overseas Sites Night Vouchers at the same time as your crossing will give you access to 'Combined Deals' which are often cheaper than booking each element separately.

Does the Club offer flexible ferry fares?

We offer standard fares of the ferry companies and Eurotunnel but all bookings can be amended for a £20 Club amendment fee, plus any charges from the operator and increase in fare.

Locations

Does the Club own any overseas sites?

We work closely with over 310 campsites which are regularly visited and inspected by Club staff. We don't own or directly manage any overseas sites.

Is the standard of overseas sites similar to that of the UK?

European campsites are star-rated by their own local authorities and can have different standards and regulations to the UK. However, the Club's travel team handpick and inspect our campsites so that members can be sure of a high standard.

Do you have any campsites in non-European countries such as the USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Sri Lanka or Southern Africa?

Yes we have a worldwide team who can arrange a great selection of escorted or independent tours across these countries, including flights, motorhome hire, campsites, guided tours and pre & post tour hotels. Call our experts today on 01342 488 060.

Can the Club help me to travel to Europe with a group?

The Club organises Escorted European Tours throughout the year and more details can be found here. Also, many of the Caravan and Motorhome Club Centres run rallies to Europe and you can see details here.

Products

How do I purchase Camping Cheques or Overseas Site Night Vouchers?

It is no longer possible to purchase Camping Cheques either via the Club or elsewhere. However, you may be interested in the Club's Overseas Site Night Vouchers which give you the freedom and flexibility to travel as you please year round on most of our European campsites. These can be bought with ferries and Eurotunnel crossings to give you access to fantastic combined deal savings negotiated especially for members.
