Good stop-off site

Stopped off for 2 nights on our way south in late May. Weather OK after heavy storms the day previous. Told to site van on hard area of pitch, but not why. Soon became apparent why, as grass areas were very boggy and 4x4 required! Many outfits had to park on roadways. This site has poor surface water drainage, but is generally pleasant with immaculate facilities. probably great in prolonged good weather. Cannot really comment on area as movement restricted by lack of fuel during strike / shortages.

One Night Stay

Stayed one night on our way to Annecy. Site very pleasant, clean facilities and well equipped. Should have asked for hard standing as the pitches were very wet and soft, in fact we had to help a couple who had got there car and van stuck in the soft ground. It would have been helpful if the soft ground had been cordoned off. Easy to find using Sat Nav. Staff pleasant and helpful.

Good for a short stop over

Had a four night stay in July on the way further south. Good location for a stop of between the ferry and further south. Blessed by hot weather for the most part which allowed swimming in the lake which is a few minutes’ walk from the site. The lake has a designated lifeguard area through the day but is relatively safe for areas adjacent to this. The site also has a pool and slide complex which was handy for and popular with families with younger children. The site seemed well geared up for families with young children with events and shows on for them. Overall the site is to a decent standard but many of the pitches are on sloping ground. The first pitch we were allocated would have required us to run our electric cable to the hook-up point across a site footpath. The staff accepted this as a norm but when pushed they allowed us to change pitches. A little limited in the area for things to do when the weather is not hot and sunny, but nearby Troyes was pleasant, in part with mediaeval buildings.

Disappointed with our treatment

En route from Spain this was our last stop before returning home to the UK via the Channel Tunnel. We have stopped off before and rated the site and staff highly. We are accustomed to landing up there over their lunchtime, and were happy to wait an hour for the booking office to open. The woman gave us a map of the site and identified where we could pitch up for the night. Then, she nonchalantly crossed out services that were not open "as it is our last week before closing the site and there are not many people on the site". No shop, no restaurant, no bar., only the pool.. Most of all - no apology - just get on with it. I was too tired to argue. If this is par for the course then it should be clearly stated on their website that towards the end of the season certain services are not available, and reduced rates should apply. I am not happy!

Response from the Caravan Club:

Thank you for sharing your feedback on our website.  Most of our sites in Northern Europe do start to close down their facilities towards the end of the season due to lack of demand.  As your club we are always happy to give you the exact opening and closing dates of onsite facilities to avoid disappointment.

Response from Lac d’Orient:

We always try to do the maximum to satisfy our clients. Therefore I’m very sorry to read you weren’t happy about your stopover on our site. On the Caravan Club’s website we try to be as precise as possible about our different services and their opening periods, but unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to be enough, as the members not always read the details. Although the Caravan Club’s website is very clear about our services ‘s opening periods, we will definitively improve this on our proper website. I thank you for this review, even if it’s negative, as it helps us to improve the quality of our services.

Good location

Our stay was for two nights very close to the end of their season and unfortunately followed a lot of heavy rain. There was a lot of standing water on and around the pitches and whilst we were given the choice of which pitch in an area it was difficult to find one that would take our size of van and the car. Glad we were not using an awning or that the site was busy! Shower block kept spotless but most cubicles were locked presumably to reduce the need for cleaning.  The nearby lake very picturesque and well worth a wander over or take part in the activities depending on the timing of your visit. Troyes also well worth a visit and easy drive in, on request reception will provide a small street map for the old part of town which is fascinating.  We will use again at least for a stopover but mindful of the state and varying sizes of the pitches.

Good overnight

This is an ideal overnighter, being approx. 230 miles from Calais, roughly 5.5 hours. It also allows comfortable access to roughly the Sisteron area if going further south, within a day. Facilities were outstanding, at least on a par with CC standards, and the best we have seen in France. Pool area looked too small for longer stay families. Restaurant not very good, just about acceptable when tired on arrival-just don't plan an evening there. Pitch sizes vary a lot, and the o'night ones ok since no awning. The site is on a slight slope, so many pitches would require your levelling ramps. It seems that overnights are grouped together-the place was stiff with Brits doing the same as us. A big bonus is that the AutoRoute is quickly accessible north or south, but far enough away for there to be no noise from it whatsoever. The nearby lake is easy walking distance just across the road, and picturesque for a nice stretch your legs amble-but don't buy a crepe at the stand - dire.

Great overnight stop

Great location for an overnight stop. Pleasant site that looked like it had good facilities for kids (we were travelling as a couple, so did not use) nearby lake picturesque with eateries and nearby village lovely and quaint. Sanitary facilities spotless. Will definitely use again.

Not what it was.

We stayed here on the way south for 4 nights 3 years ago and vowed to returned for a longer stay as we enjoyed it so much, unfortunately it's not the same place.A lot of the pitches look tired and well worn and need attention, the pitches around the exterior at the back of the site are probably used less and are in good order, so if booking request one of these. The staff though polite and courteous aren't very helpful, I made a request for a switch of pitch which the girl only went through the motions for about 20 seconds before saying it wasn't possible, whilst there a lady asked another member of staff about the area and was given a map map and told to find it for herself, the look on the ladies face was priceless. The toilet blocks are busy at peak times, they are kept very well especially considering the amount of use they get. The restaurant is average at best, uninspiring menu, not great service, very slow, only used it the once because of this. There is a good range of things for the kids. The area itself is excellent, the lake is a great day out. This is a site in a great location but needs a little improvement and from what I could tell a better manager in place.

Great for families

We stayed here for 6 nights. On our arrival we had heavy rain followed by terrific high winds which lasted until the next day. The washrooms were excellent clean the whole time. Pitch was large but we were under trees which made it very dark. This was a great site for children with the pools and adventure play ground. Wifi is only available up by the restaurant which was very disappointing as our last site we had it at our vans. Restaurant okay menue not exciting. Okay for stop over .

A nice site but no atmosphere

We stayed at this site as an overnight on our way south and we were supposed to stay over for 2 niths on our way back. On arrival the reception was good but the pitch they had allocated us was small for a tent never mind our twin axle caravan. Reception were helpful when i went back to explain and they gave us a choice of two other pitches. The pitches are not brillient in size and some are fairly uneven. The pool and slides are good but the stones around the pool are not good on the feet and the outside pool was cold. The area had the potential of being brilliant if the weather was good. Also the Lac and everything around it was shut even though it was still August! It was like a deserted beach resort with nothing to do. I dont suppose that the weather helped as it was cold and windy on the first night we stayed and it had rained on the day we returned. I am so glad i never stayed for the two nights planned on our return and would not return again. I suppose it is OK for an overnight stop. I cannot put my finger on why we didnt like it as it had everything that we required from a site. I can only put it down to overall atmosphere.
