Friendly site set in lovely surroundings with very welcoming staff

Friendly site set in lovely surroundings with very welcoming staff. The facilities onsite were good, including a pool (a little cold) and grassed play/games area. Our pitch was just an area of grass on one of the main fields, but this was fine as we were only staying for one night. The toilet/shower facilities were kept very clean. We sample the pizza's in restaurant, which was good and staff very friendly. There was also bread available in the morning. There was a motorhome service point, but this was difficult to access and the chemical toilet disposal was not available. We would definitely stay again if we visit this area of France.

Pleasant, but...

We have used Chanteloup as a stopover on our journey to and from the Dordogne for several years. It was a lovely site and used to have great food in the restaurant. (one of our main reasons for returning to Chanteloup as we don't want to get everything out for just a stopover) This year we returned - our first time since Covid. The site itself is still very pleasant, lovely grounds, and the site and receptions staff could not be more pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately the quality and range of the food in the restaurant has deteriorated. Burger/steak/salmon and chips, without even a salad garnish. At one point, the chef came out with some food with a cigarette dangling out of his mouth. Also, whilst the menu was limited, the chef was making the staff (who came to eat) what looked like some amazing dishes - shame that they weren't on the menu! The restaurant itself has gone from 'shabby chic' to downright scruffy and dirty. My husband also complained that the male toilets/showers were dirty. We always looked forwards to our stopovers at Chanteloup and it was the silver lining in the cloud of returning home. But the deterioration of the restaurant combined with the hike in pitch prices means that we will probably not return for the time being.

Pleasant open site to suit all.....

Our last stop (2 nights) of a multi stay 5 week tour of Northern Spain & Portugal & we had the best weather..... Very spacious site with a nice pool. Would have extended our stay had we not been time limited to be home. Very friendly & helpful staff. As mentioned previously, restaurant was underwhelming re choice but food was okay, although we only ate there on the first night. Facilities are good, however the shower & toilet amenities are in separate locations across the courtyard. MSP is 'hidden' among the treeline as you enter & could be better signposted. All in all a good site to stay for breaking up a journey (we were travelling back to Dieppe) or a longer break. We were there the week after Le Mans 24 Hour & it wasn't very busy.

Different

Visited for 4 nights in late June on our way back to Calais. This is a nice site with a very relaxed atmosphere. We were given a pitch on a large field with a large tree in the centre. All pitches were around the outside increasing the impression of space. Water points were plentiful but the only grey water disposal point was by the motorhome service point - quite a distance with a full wastemaster! Can't disagree with the comments re the restaurant - they seem to have gone a bit overboard with the shabby-chic theme, however on the one occasion that we used it, our food was good. There are numerous deckchairs and shades dotted about the site, which add to the calming atmosphere. Facilities are 'rustic, but clean and acceptable. We would visit again.

Comment from the Club:

Thank you so much for your review. The restaurant was managed privately this year and the manager had trouble recruiting staff and keeping up the good quality that we expect at Chanteloup . They hope to do better for 2023. Thankyou.

Lovely location set around the château

Centred around a large château and its many outbuildings the facilities are generally good located in some of the outbuildings in the old courtyard. tired. Pitches are generous in size set out around the lake and lawns that surround the château. There is a wooded area behind the Château with additional fully serviced pitches set amongst the trees together with a number of new glamping lodges. The courtyard to one side of the château and the main château building itself, house a small restaurant, reception, games room, tv room, bar and washing up facilities. Bread and croissants available every morning delivered by local boulengerie who sets up a stall on the lawn outside the château. The only downside was the restaurant which a number of other reviews have made reference to. We were disappointed with the quality of the food and the general appearance. Set in the wooded courtyard under a marquee, it was in need of a good clean to remove the tree debris from the roof and the table cloths need washing. The site has a very relaxed atmosphere about it and whilst we were there was not particularly busy which suited us. We only stayed for one night on this visit but will be back for a longer stay.

Pleasant , quiet and very spacious

June 22 Really nice Castels sites. Great booking procedure with rapid response and check in excellent . Our pitch by the lake was excellent and more than big enough for car and large caravan . As units place around edge of field huge amount of space for sitting out and games for kids if appropriate. Website states lake side pitches all have water and electric , ours only had electric . Plenty of fish to catch in lake but beware baby cat fish with very sharp spines . Not sure fishing here is suitable for children . Chateau has very attractive lounge/games area .Has a bar we did not use .Have refrained from commenting on Restaurant but have responded to owners privately .Our neighbor on pitch who was in restaurant shared our views but said in the many prior years they visited it was excellent. A very pleasant place to stay to chill particularly on way south or north or if wanting to visit Le Mans . Big supermarket 15 to 20 mins away with fuel.Local village has baker and small shop ,we did not have time to try nor to visit the small bar /restaurant as it shuts on Mondays but as would use this as rest stop site again will be sure to give restaurant a try

July '19 - Great site

Holidayed for a week at Chanteloup in July 2019 with a caravan. Initially we were allocated a pitch that was a bit far away from all the amenities but after a friendly discussion we were reallocated a pitch that was a bit more central. The pitches are grass and not particularly clearly defined but nonetheless we found it good and easy to get pitched onto. Other pitches looked similarly sized with all appearing to have reasonable access for large outfits. The weather was good which always helps, some may suggest it was too hot as we hit the peak temperatures in France at that time which peaked over 40C. The bar area was good with good service and a seating area both inside and outside, the outside area had a large TV screen. The restaurant and take away food had a decent menu and service again was good. The toilet / shower areas were clean and all had hot water at all times. The site had a market and a BBQ on two of the days we were there. The market was limited but all sellers had good products (no cheap rubbish). The BBQ had free wine and the BBQ was provided by the site, just bring your own food. It was around 10 miles to Le Mans which has some historical areas worthy of a visit and the light show onto the buildings around the old quarter of the city is worth staying around for until dusk. A visit to Le mans would not have been complete without a visit to the race track / museum. We only visited the museum (adjacent to the race track) which was a good two hours spent with many cars on exhibit. There were many large supermarkets to choose from in Le Mans, just take your pick really... We also golfed one day and whilst it was not a championship course, it was an interesting and enjoyable round at a reasonable price. All in, a very enjoyable stay and a site we would highly recommend.

One of the best Castels sites

A return visit to this first class site. Everything about site is high quality. Pitches are arranged around the edges leaving central areas clear to enjoy. The owners are hands on and can be seen watering lovely plants from morning till night. Lovely terrace bar great garden swimming pool. Restaurant and shop. Nice toilets. If in Motor home ask for directions to Quayside free parking in Le Mans. Rural location but supermarkets in Le Mans. Bbq on Sat nights July August.

A top notch site

Can’t remember how many times we’ve stayed here, but we love it. We use it as a stopover on our way to the Dordogne. To be honest we could travel to our next stopover easily, but stay because we love the site so much. You pitch like a wagon trail when the Red Indians are on the war path, but this means you have neighbours at either side of you but no one in front or behind. There must be 30- 40 metres between you and the pitch opposite. Add to this spaciousness, excellent, clean facilities, lots for children to do, a very good on site restaurant, a lovely terrace to sit enjoying a drink from the chateau bar, friendly, welcoming staff and of course views of the chateau and you have a perfect site. We were sad to leave after just one night and we will stay for longer in the future as it is such a relaxing place.

Possibly the best site in the whole region!

Stayed just the one night enroute further south. Been here several times and always sad to leave. Greeted by the proprietor with a warm handshake, we are made to feel really welcome even if it’s a short stay. Grounds are beautiful and there is an excellent pool and children’s play area. Good restaurant and take away facility. Fresh bread and croissants delivered by a local baker. Very relaxing and a taste of the very best France has to offer.
