Worth a visit

Very imposing approach, good showers and shop. Although there for only 3 nights, we would have like to have chosen our pitch. Good for cycling. Would go again.

Great site but a touch remote

Lovely site with all the amenities you will need. Good restaurant, reasonably priced, fantastic new shower/toilet block and a well stocked shop. Almost forgot, the pitches are large and level. I would highly recommend this site not only for an overnight, but for longer stays.

Good location

We stayed here twice once on our outward journey and on the way back. We arrived at 22.30 on the way in to France and as you would guess at this time of night reception was shut.We found a pitch and in the morning advised site we were there and later on moved off in to France. Our return was far different arrived midday reported to reception went to our allocated pitch which was was not fantastic) (however there had been a lot of rain) Showers toilets and restaurant were first class no complaints at all. This site was ideal for our needs as a stop over in and out of France ,with the ferry port only 30 mins away.

Great Location - Shame about Facilities!

We were there for 5 nts during the D Day commemorations in June 2016. Great location for exploring the D Day venues and approach to Site very grand. Poor attention to detail lets the Site down - Grass cutting with no collection resulted in grass everywhere; early banging noises as doors slammed shut/opened by the janitor with no care for residents. The worst part was the single toilet and two antiquated showers that were the worst we have experienced - poorly maintained and luke warm water at best. When I raised this with the reception they said that 'they were clean!' This is the sort of thing that the CC should help support their members by taking such enquiries up with the Site - we should deserve better for our custom.

Beautiful Normady.

This is only our second trip abroad with the caravan, May I say, the 2nd of many, we picked this site, because, being a bit of a history anorak, it was close to all the D-Day beaches and museums, yes, my wife will get her own back when we go to Rhodes later in the year.   Beautiful chateaux site, very good facilities, always kept clean and tidy, well stocked shop reasonable priced, bar was often used, in a lovely, court yard setting, didn't try the restaurant as we ate at van most night. Grass was unfortunately a bit long , but the ground staff could'nt help the weather ( a bit wet ) and did there best. Definitely worth a visit.

Great Location

We spent six nights at this well located site and had a lovely stay. The staff were helpful and friendly. Our pitch was in the bottom field which had its own toilet and shower block a bit dated but clean, the main block are better, Pool good warm, the pond for fishing was also good well stocked with fish I didn't fish but plenty did. The shop was well stocked and not badly priced, Restauraunt not bad wine expensive but food ok. The best point for this site is the location smack in the middle for all the goings on around Normandy,.

A Taste of the Real France

Chateau de Martragny is a lovely site, and well worth a visit. More by accident than design we arrived during the D-Day celebrations, but we only stayed for 3 nights. We arrived well after 10pm from a late ferry, found the long and very dark driveway to the buildings, and as instructed by the note on the door found ourselves a pitch not far from Reception in a secluded part of the grounds in front of the chateau. I went in search of water and in my best French asked a young groundsman in a buggy where the taps were, to be told that he didn’t know! After nearly being run over by some guys in an American WW2 jeep I found a tap about 10 feet away from where I had asked for it. The site is very large, extending in front and behind the big house in all directions, and has a real French rustic aristocratic quality; reminiscent of a set from the Three Musketeers! Many old buildings still exist, but the site has a really large, modern and well equipped uni-sex shower block to the back of the big stable block, with very clean facilities. Behind the chateau the pitches are located either side of the large rear garden walls, with more of an open feel than in front of the chateau, where the grounds are wooded and separated by hedges and trees. There was also another small shower block in the woods with all facilities, which although it seemed unused by anyone, I used the shower there and it was perfect – if a little heavy on insect life. The electrics here require a 2-pin adaptor to hook up UK cables, but we had no problem with electrics from what looked like rather decrepit looking supply boxes. There is free Wifi, although this only worked on my devices within about 50ft of Reception. The young girls in Reception were very pleasant and helpful, although it only opened at about 9:30am (or shortly after). Unfortunately there was usually quite a wait in Reception because it is also a hotel and only one person on duty at a time, plus they have to cover the quite large shop behind too. There is also a bar/restaurant in a rather beautiful corner of the courtyard next to a small millpond, which we didn’t actually patronise, but seemed very pleasant. The open-air swimming pool and children’s play area are right at the very back of the site, but didn’t appear to be open while we were there. We had a cheeky walk round the main buildings and investigated the chateau itself (not so much a castle, more what we would call a manor house), and was invited in by the owner himself; a charming gentleman who took great pride in telling us the story of the chateau (previously a school during WW1 for Belgian children, then a hospital in WW2) and showed us the elegant rooms and the view across the lawns to the rear. Quite a treat. We found this site quiet, peaceful, and quirky, and being in the war zone after D-day you could almost imagine the Allies had just pulled out after using it as a headquarters. It’s close to Caen, Bayeux, Arromanches, and Ouistreham.

Never Again!

Never go to this site on their last day. We did and never again, they were not interested in us whatsoever, we could park were we liked, only the men's toilet block was open, no lights to see your way into them at all. We arrived after a long journey of over 9 hours to be greeted with ' we've been waiting for you, now we can close!' Went into the 'shop' to get some bottled water, the young lady serving was too busy on her phone to serve us, saw us and kept on talking on her phone. Would NEVER recommend this site!

Good site, good location.

We spent several nights at this well located site and had a lovely stay. The staff were helpful and friendly. Sadly, despite being Caravan Club Members, had we booked the site directly we would have got a better nightly rate than we did booking through the Caravan Club, a lesson learned!
