Great Site

Stayed 25th-30th July, great site, lovely Chateau, we had breakfast in the chateau which was lovely, staff are very helpful in the office and shop.   Restaurant meals were very good and reasonably priced.  Our children aged 10 years and 7 years and used the swimming pool, play areas and had fun meeting friends and driving around on the free go-carts.  Games were organised on the front lawn, kids and I joined in.  The showers and toilets are very clean. Pitches are a very good size and well maintained.  Good location for visiting D-Day sites. Only one negative comment, we arrived late from the Caen ferry and the office was closed, we knew which was our pitch before we left home, however when we arrived at 10.15pm it was dark and quite difficult to find, however we are not experienced caravans.   Would definitely go back.

Happy to Return

We stayed here for about 10 days in the end as we extended due to a bit of nasty windy weather. We have a caravan and had a site near the toilet block which wasn't a problem. The young ladies at Reception were very helpful and were able to speak English quite well. The driveway in is impressive and although the chateau looked a little tired it is still a lovely place to stay. We ate at the restaurant twice and found the food excellant and reasonably priced. It is also quite centrally placed for visiting battlefields and beaches in the area. Depends on your interests, but would have no hesitation in recommending this site. We would go back again. Facilities clean and has laundry as well as the shop, nice to have a fresh bagette each day.

Lovely site

A lovely with excellent facilities. The only faults we could find was there was a gun range that could be heard in the distance that upset our dog.

A good stop for the Ferry, but somewhat remote

I stayed here for night before returning on a Ouistreham-Portsmouth ferry, which is about a 35 mins drive. Unless you have transport there is nothing in the immediate area ( I'm a Motorhomer, so limited touring potential). All the local villages appear to have no shops or bars. Electricity connection is the olde style French pin plugs, so remember your adapter. I was also told its reversed polarity. Site is OK but somewhat dated in parts.  The Bar is good but rather expensive. From a personal viewpoint it was rathe too remote for my preference. Good for the Ferry, but not a holiday as such. Perhaps unfairly I would have hoped for more considerate attitude to my need to change our reservation date by 3 days due to the unexpected death of my wife's mother. The site was nowhere near full but they charged me the full amount twice. Overall, not somewhere I would choose again but it is handy for the Ferry.

A beautiful site

Have read the other recent reviews on this site and think the 'each to his own' approach best describes them. We have just returned from France, spending 10 days on the west coast and the last 4 days at the chateau. The entrance driveway is most inspiring and we thought we had done well with our choice of site. Check in was simple. The young lady at the desk was very helpful and offered to tell us about the site in French or English. We were given a very space pitch, in I think, the orchard area, with a mix of open and shady ground. We used the new toilet block and were very impressed with its cleanliness and the, always available, hot water. We felt that the shop had enough provisions to keep 'you going' and loved the availibity of fresh baguette etc every morning. There are several s 'supermarches' in Bayeaux about 15 minutes away. We didn't use the restaurant or bar so cannot comment on the service or food and own only 'gripe' would be that there was no visible menu or price list - this might have encouraged us to use it. There is a small, new looking, play area for children and I could imagine our grandson loving it, and also the outdoor pool. Both areas looked clean and well kept. Comparing the stated pitch fees with the Club prices, the Club offers good value for money. The site is quite expensive compared with some others in the area if you don't book through the Club. It is an excellent base to do the World War II tours. For peace and quite some pitches might be better than others but we didn't think it was a noisy site - children's laughter and enjoyment is not a bad thing after all. When there was a problem with another caravan tripping the electrics the problem was quickly dealt with by a very helpful young man who worked systematically to identify the cause and rectify the problem. All in all we loved the site and would happily use it again.

An interesting site.

We were given a good large pitch. Noting previous comments I think that pitch allocation can be a bit haphazard. However the staff appeared willing to change you to another pitch so it's worth checking what else is available before you unhitch. Having said that it is well situated for visiting the D Day beaches and Bayeux. Port en Bessin is well worth a visit. We found the showers and toilets good but cleaning times seemed to vary so there could be a gap of more than 24 hours between cleans. The shop is well stocked though if the receptionist is busy you may have to wait. WiFi is reasonable and free! We liked the site, it was divided into interesting areas each with its own appeal and it made a change not to be on a site with chalets and mobile homes.

Could have been better.

Been to this site many times and have always found it very good but this year I was a little disappointed, the reception was very slow, not enough staff, was kept waiting for about 30 minutes to get booked in. The comments about the long grass are correct but I have always found it that way, some of the caravans have been pitched for quite a time (seasonal) and the grass was very long around them. The toilets have been upgraded but I find they are less good than the old ones, at least you had urinals then, not now. Very convenient for the ferry from Caen, being about 30 minutes from dock. The shop is good with a good selection of goods but you can be delayed as the staff have to monitor the reception as well, so be aware. The site is divided into two separate parts and the pitches vary in size from large to quite small but all are relatively flat.

Disappointed

We stayed at this site for only two nights so glad not to have stayed longer. The drive up to the chateau is beautiful so we expected a good site . This was not to be . The ground had not been mowed and was very uneven like camping in meadow land. The toilet and shower block was disgusting. The meal in the restaurant was very much to be desired. The wine was like vinegar. All in all would not recommend this site.

good site BUT!!

We booked through the club for two weeks,we had been to this site some time ago and enjoyed it. However on this occasion after one week we had had enough. Only part of the site was being used, many of the pitches are not castels size the section of the site we were on was cramped and busy. When I said we were leaving no one asked why not interested poor customer service. We will not be going again and lost a weeks booking cost.

Reception Hours

We were booked in to arrive before 23.00 on the 25th of May. Both the club and I confirmed this to the site by email. We arrived later than we hoped due to delay to all passengers on the ferry caused by checking of passports. Then found that due to a new road system we did not arrive at the site until 22.50. Reception was closed! despite the above. The Bar manager helped by pointing out where we could park for the night and we left early morning so could not find out why Reception was closed.
