Excellent Location

Just returned from this excellent site. Could only award 4 stars for peace & quiet due to construction of an extension to site to which we were pitched adjacent. I understand that this work is due to be completed within the next few days so 5 stars all round really. Weather was cold but there was a warm welcome from the site wardens. We had an electrical problem with our motorhome whilst on site. Again the wardens were most helpful & put us in touch with Nigel from NW Caravan Services who I cannot recommend highly enough. He was able to order replacement parts & fit them the following day resolving our problem for a very reasonable price. The site is in an excellent location to visit York, within easy walking distance along the river. There is a lovely park just beyond the site that we used to walk our dog prior to heading into the city. Not many dog friendly pubs in York but can recommend the Yorkshire Terrier that has the bonus of some well kept ale too. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay & will return.

Long awaited

It as taking us nearly 30years to get a pitch on this site but well worth the wait to do so. The site is a credit to the caravan club with the wardens being very helpful in every way possible. The site is spotless and immaculate in every little detail. We hope people aren't abusing the fact of booking and not turning up as we feel it's a possibility due to the fact it was booked up on the web all weekend but we know to 2 pitches not in use a real shame for somene who could have gone and enjoyed the site like us.

Work in progress

Excellent site, good location, superb wardens and immaculate facilities.it will be greatly improved when building work on the extension to the site is completed. Inevitable noise from the on going work so don't look forward to a lay in.

York Break

Great location to stay when visiting York. The staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. Where we were by the river side was a bit noisier with passing cars and people walking past. Showers were great and the toilet block was well equipped and very clean. Perhaps it was because it was winter but the site was a bit bleak with gravel and tarmac everywhere. Take care when walking on the campsite roads in winter as they can be very icy and are not gritted. A cut hand and bruises from slipping and falling testify to that. Having said all that it is still a great location.

winter city break

A brilliant spot for a city break...really convenient for all the sites, yet quietly situated. Right by the river so beware of flooding potential, and children would need to be supervised

First stay at Rowntree Site

We were lucky enough to book into Rowntree Site where we stayed from 4.1.15 to 7.1.15. Can understand why so busy as brilliantly situated for York. The Wardens were very friendly and helpful and the site, although fairly busy, did not feel crowded at all. Great places to visit and eat in York. We walked around the Wall - the guidebook says will take 1.45hrs but in fact took us 6hrs due to frequent coffee and cake stops! Thoroughly enjoyed the stay and hope to return shortly.

Great 2 day Break

We had a lovely 2 nights at Rowntree park, the site is perfect for a visit into York. Just a ten minute walk into the centre. There is building work going on at the moment but we were not disturbed. Woke up Tuesday morning to see the river only feet away from the site but all was well the Wardens were up most of the night ringing the flood line keeping a check on things. Thank You.

Super Site

We had a great 3 nights in York. Plenty to see and do in easy walking from Rowntree Park. Amazing array of interesting shops on Bishopsgate Road, out of the pedestrian entrance on the site. We'll be back!

Great site location was spot on,just a ten minute walk into the centre.lots of good pubs and eating spots, try the slip inn for a good pint.My only comment was on pitch 16 which is next to the childrens swing park in the park next door, lots of screaming kids.

Great site

We had a lovely 2 nights at Rowntree park and as usual the site was perfect for a visit to york. There is building work but this did not start too early or finish late so we were not disturbed.I was concerned to learn that after this work there would be 3 less pitches. As this is a very busy site and always difficult to book this seems a backward step. The wardens were very friendly and helpful.
