Great wardens on a beautiful site

We stayed at Rowntree last weekend and it was lovely to see the renovations to the Riverside section completed. The whole site is so well maintained with mature trees and shrubs and newly planted hedging to demarcate pitches.  We have been staying at this site for several times a year over the last 7 years and in the earlier years the wardens were very business like and not particularly helpful but this has changed noticeably over the last year or so as they couldn't be more helpful or friendly. It does make all the difference for an altogether more enjoyable and pleasant stay. I hope that they read the reviews and know how much they are appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you for yet another fab stay at Rowntree ! So convenient for the terrific city or go the opposite way for a stroll through the park! Great staff ,who were more than helpfull ,when our car broke down ,and the public too ,who pushed us in! We managed to get the car going ,but I would'nt have minded ,being stuck there ! Thank you team York ,you all do a brilliant job!,

Honesty

We have just returned from our first stay at the Rowntree site. The site was very well run and the facilities were clean and warm, which was very important as we had some cold mornings!!  I would like to thank the kind, honest person who handed my camera into the office on Wednesday 25th March when I left it in the toilet block by mistake, the office staff forgot to ask your name so I could not thank you in person. I was relieved to retrieve it from the office the next morning. The site was within walking distance from York and we didn't use our car once while we were there. We hope to be able to book some more days at the site in future.

New Beginnings

Rowntree park was always a great site but the changes from last year are brilliant. Great new pitches where the old warehouse used to be give a brighter fresher feel to the site. The toilet facilities are among the best on any site. Local shops and restaurants in walking distance of the site. Great if like us you have bikes, both the riverside and york roads have cycle tracks. Finally the wardens are superb. As an example when we were there last weekend two cars broke down one on the road leading to the site and the other at reception. The wardens were straight out pushing first a caravan into the site and onto a pitch before they left again to retrieve his car. A few moments later a BMW would not start at reception...again the wardens unhitched the van and pushed it onto a pitch before doing the same with his car. We cant wait for our next visit.

Cafe in the Park

Must be our best site. perfect for Christmas shopping and for the Theatre. Always find something new, this time we found a cafe in the park next door which opens at 9am even on Sunday.

Didnt give maximum for peace and quiet because of childrens playground behind site..In fainess the whole public park closes overnight until 9am next morning.

Lucky and got pitch for a few days at the last minute !!.Still some small pitches.some still don.t have TV hook up and odd spacing.Looks a bit mismatched, but new area shrubs might help.Toilet block warm on cold mornings.Motorvan point filling up on a slope which is a bit odd.Funny watching brand new van trying to get in right place, yes I did offer to help.York as good as always.looking forward to going again later in the year.

SLIGHT PROBLEM WITH PITCHING

Love this site.  The wardens are wonderfully friendly and helpful, with a smile for everyone and keep the site pristine.  Toilet blocks fantastic with 10 showers per block which are always sparkling clean.  The site looks super after its redevelopment with 16 new pitches to choose from.  However (and this is no reflection on the hard working wardens), the health and safety regulations deem it necessary for no caravan/motorhome to park back to back where separated by a hedge.  This means that pitch markers are on the very extreme edge of each pitch which vehicles are obliged to align with.  Hence, each caravan/motorhome is rammed up against each hedge separating the pitches with barely room to either gain access to the services side of the caravan, or indeed, open a door to get in if it is a European caravan/motorhome, leaving 90% of the pitch unused!    I watched an elderly gentleman struggling to access his aquaroll as it was almost placed in the hedge!!  I realise this is all to do with health and safety, but for goodness sake, let's have some common sense instead of rigidly sticking to yet another set of rules issued by the Caravan Club.  Let's hope in time this might change again and the next set of rules might well be of benefit to the members!!

Consistently Excellent

Another return visit to what has become our favourite UK site. Living in Yorkshire we only go for long weekends, but could quite happily fill a full week or more here. We were on one of the new pitches and the site of the now demolished warehouse - it is much better for being "one site" now, but you'll always get the folks who prefer the old way! Facilities are consistently excellent and the wardens very friendly and attentive. A brilliant all year round site very popular, so I always book before the main season starts (booked our March 2015 break back in August 2014) and always get in for our chosen date 1st or 2nd weekend in March. Didn't encounter any speeding motorists on site this time thank goodness.

Good As Always

We have been visiting this site for many years. We have watched over the past six months the demolition of the warehouse and now the new section to the site. The site is much improved for no longer being divided, but I feel it's is a shame the club has not kept the original character of the site by using hedging to divide the pitches. Also the new metal security fence which now has screens attached really would benefit from a planting a new hedge.  It's good to see wardens Janet and Carl, back again with their new assistants Janet and Phil, make them a cracking team.
