Excellent

My wife and I stayed here in mid October 2015 for 4 nights midweek. The site is currently undergoing redevelopment to certain areas, that said the work is carried out during the day, if like the Mrs it did not worry us as we were out most days. If you have a dog Rowntree Park itself is only a short and pleasant away along the river bank, but watch for cyclists who travel at speed along the cycle path. The site is kept very clean, the toilet block was immaculate and the wardens were very friendly. the only reason I have not given this a 5 star rating for peace and quiet is because of the current redevelopment work. This is a site that we will return to next year as York is only just over an hour away.

Good as Ever

Another stay at this top site. Didn't use the car for the whole 5 days we were there. The site team at York are exceptional and have, by their positive attitude and hands on helpfulness, turned the arrival queing and waiting into a straight in - straight on experience. The modification programme is on going and is an improvement to what was already good. The only downside to this site, is getting a place the booking process really is a lottery even booking off season and mid week. To this end I would still suggest the club actively pursues reclaiming the old "annex" area and extends on to it before anyone else aquires and develops it.

Really lovely place

We have just had a mid week break at this location. The shower and toilet block are a real pleasure to use and remind you just how spoiled we are on CC sites. Lots to see and do and a great quiet place. There was work going on during the stay but you cannot grumble as they are making the place even better. I only had one concern, the place has just grown in size and the additional number might put a strain on the existing facilities. All in all a good place to stay and we will certainly go back.

High standard

Just returned home after a short stay at Rowntree Park. The site is spotlessly clean and the location is, of course, excellent. The showers and toilets were a pleasure to use even though, as retirees who tend not to be up and about as early as we used to, we fell foul of the morning cleaning hour a couple of times. I often wonder why the sanitary blocks are cleaned in the morning. Sites are often almost deserted in the afternoons but toilet cleaning always takes place late morning.  What spoilt our stay somewhat though, was the surprising number of barking dogs! Several dogs were fastened outside caravans and motor homes - not something I have ever done - but most of them seemed content. However, a couple of them barked continuously whenever anyone passed them. I can understand them barking but for them to be allowed to continue with no one setting foot outside to quiet them was unacceptable. Not something I've come across at a CC site before. I hope it was a one off. Such a shame for the peace and quiet to be be shattered like this.

Are reviews being censored now?

Having left a review here on 22nd October we are very disappointed to find it has now disappeared?? Could it be to do with the fact that we asked why there were at least three spaces despite the site being designated full online and therefore questioned the poor booking policy of the CC, whereby people book en mass and then fail to turn up without any penalty? Or could it be we were not impressed with the customer service skills of the wardens during our stay. Whatever the reason it is totally wrong to ask for reviews and then take them down if one doesn't agree with them!

Comment from The Caravan Club:

Unfortunately on the date you submitted your review we were experiencing a few website issues and due to a technical fault some reviews from our website submitted that day were lost but please be assured we did not deliberately remove reviews unless it contravenes our Community Guidelines. We welcome constructive feedback as we want members to have the best possible time on site and we always try to address concerns when raised.

With regards to The Club’s booking policy, we have a late cancellation policy, and the minimum notice required for any pitch cancellation is 72 hours. Members who cancel inside this period or fail to turn up at a booked pitch on three occasions between 1 January and 31 December will be contacted and may have their membership suspended for 14 days and forward bookings cancelled. This policy is aimed at giving other members the opportunity to take up these (now) unused pitches. You can find out more information about this under Club Site Amendments and Cancellation Policies. As you can see from other reviews, our wardens always try to be as helpful and friendly as possible and we’re sorry if you did not feel this was the case.

I hope this helps address your concerns and we apologise that your original review was lost.

Heaven on Earth

Just returned from heaven! The wardens on this site are an example to the rest of humanity! Helpful does not go anywhere near describing their "Can Do" attitude. Then the site itself - 10 minutes' walk from the centre of York - what more do you need? Even sunshine comes - most days!

"Squirrel!"

Our third time at Rountree Park - but the first with the dog. Since he is obsessed with Squirrels he was well suited. On previous visits, we'd always headed into York city and we hadn't explored Rountree Park itself - it's well worth a walk through (particularly this time of year for the Autumn colours). Though there were works underway on site - they were unobtrusive. I'm always amazed how quiet the site is given its proximity to the city.
