Fantastic site

We were welcomed on arrival and given friendly, informative instruction on navigating the site. The site is only 10 minutes walk from the city centre, with a great park behind the site with good play area for kids. We stayed three nights and did not use the car until departing as everything you need is in walking distance. The staff are very friendly and helpful, with excellent shower and toilet facilities. We will return, many thanks for a great stay

Good venue

Peace and quiet except for barking and yapping dogs - not appreciated at 330am!  Not sure why we were allocated a pitch on arrival - we have a small camper van?  It was ok 'cos it was near where we would have chosen anyway.  Everything clean etc. but no hot water particularly in the dish washing area - everyone who came in there was making the same comment.  Tried to report a blocked toilet, someone was in office telling their dog to be quiet, but did not respond to knock on door!! It was about 6pm so not late or anything.  We'll no doubt return because it's so convenient for visiting York but ???

Enjoyable stay

My husband and I are just back from an enjoyable stay at this site. We haven't been to this site before so were not sure what to expect, we were welcomed on arrival by the friendly wardens, we had been allocated a pitch due to us having a twin axle van. We found this helpful as the site was extremely busy and reduced the time getting on to site and set up as we did not have to search round the site for a suitable pitch. We feel that the way these pitches were allocated was dealt with in a polite and efficient manner and allowed us to get set up and start enjoying our stay. We found the wardens helpful and friendly at all times, and the facilities were clean and tidy as you come to expect from a club site.

How to spoil someone's holiday in one easy lesson!

We were very much looking foreward to our holiday at Rowntree park CC site having been here before we knew what a nice site is is.  However, on arrival we were met outside reception by the very officious warden who told us that as we have a twin axle caravan we had our pitch allocated to us.  As we have never had this happen before we queried this but was told it was a rule from Head Office.  We drove to out pitch and was disappointed to see that there were 2 pitches on the other side of the road that were much longer than the one we had been given and would have been much more appropriate for our twin axle. When my husband ran back to the warden to ask if we might have one of these he was told No! The pitches had been allocated the night before and could not be changed.  Yes my husband lost his temper as this seemed a very 'job's worth' attitude from the warden. We understand the necessity to save larger pitches for larger units but don't we as members of the club have the right to choose??   Last year the wardens kindly saved a spot for us but when we asked to go onto a different pitch they were only too happy to accommodate us.  At the time we arrived there were plenty of pitches that we could get onto and we should have had the choice of where we wanted to pitch.  This has tainted our holiday as it is the first time we have encountered such an attitude from a warden. Other people commented on his attitude as well.

All Ship Shape

Just got back from a very relaxing extended weekend here. And has been said, what a wonderful job the wardens and the club have done to get this site back up and running again after the floods.

Perfect for exploring York

You wouldn't know this side had flooded over Christmas. We arrived on 22nd January,  the day after it reopened, and it was immaculate. The wardens were really helpful too after my caravan electrics let me down (again). It really is a perfect location for walking into York. No BBQs for us this time.  It was a birthday treat for my beloved. Jamie's Italian on Friday  (good) and La Vecchia Scuola on Saturday (outstanding).  Back to work tomorrow. Noooooooooooo!!!

York at Christmas

Arrived on the 20th December ready for Christmas. The site had been previously closed due to flooding. The wardens had done a great job cleaning up. Unfortunately river levels rose again and we were advised that the site would be closing again. The wardens were great throughout updating us on a regular basis and keeping a smile on their faces which can't have been easy as their Christmas is ruined and they will have all the hard work of re cleaning after the floods.

After the floods

Having visited this site several times and being aware of flooding causing the site to close, we were keeping fingers crossed that the site could be re-opened in time for our arrival date of 18 December. It was in fact opened on the date of our arrival and despite the area around the site bearing signs of flooding the site itself was in a pristine condition - full credit to the wardens. Also, since our last visit a ramp has been installed to the main facilities block to replace the disabled lift. This is a very welcome addition.
