We have stayed on this site a couple of times before and enjoyed the convenience for the city.
This time we got off to a bad start, though, as the wardens insisted that we move the van after we were pitched because we were about 6 inches from the peg. Having moved, we barely had space for the water containers between the van and the hedge - it was also very difficult to tow the van off the pitch on to the one way system.
Also we were shocked at the lack of recycling facilities.
Fantastic site !!!!!!!
We stayed here 2 weeks ago. The site is kept immaculate. The staff are very pleasant and friendly.
Showers and toilets are excellent, the showers are hot , and the cubicles are large and spotlessly clean, and there are plenty of them--no queing here!!!
The piches are spaced out with plenty of room around them.
The site is in a perfect spot it's got everything---a short walk into the City. Walk in the opposite direction and you are in a lovely park--Rountrees park . Theres plenty to see and you can cycle here too.
Across the road from the entrance is the river ouse and theres plenty of things to watch there , constantly boats up and down it.
Exit the site at the rear and there are local shops take-aways well worth going to see it has a great chippy, that was our treat on the last night there.
I am looking forward to going again as the weather was good to us too, Like other people who have stayed here I to will be looking for a longer visit, as we booked in January, and the october 3 day visit was the first available booking.
We didnt need a car and being in a motorhome this was a bonus.
I will definitely be back.
We loved it here

4 became 9, hurray!
As your aware York Rowntree park is a busy site and were lloking forward to our 4 night stay, and on arrival and a a day in York, we were saddened that we we only had a 4 night stay available in this ideally located site and its short walk to the vibrant City york is. After a discussion with the ever helpfull wardens we embarked each evening on monitoring the on line bookings, such was our persistance we managed to turn or 4 night stay into 9 night stay, which really mad our holiday wothwhile. We will ensure were booked in for a longer stay next year. An ideal site in a great location.
A great break in York
I stayed here a week ago, Sunday to Wednesday after recovering from the shock of actually finding availability on this very popular site. It is the second time I have visited the first being about 4 years ago, highliting just how difficult it is to get on this site. I'm not going to bang on too long about this but I think it is incredibly selfish of people that block book stays on here, because that is definately what happens when the bookings open in December, people book a large number of stays but only use a few of them cancelling the others and these get snapped up quickly making it difficult for others to visit the site. That said, it is a wonderful site just 10 - 15 mins walk from the beautiful city of York. My unit is quite big and 4 tons and the wardens had thoughtfully (and logically) saved me a pitch due its size. The site was very busy for the time I was there but not intrusive or noisy. All of the ammenities were perfect as always and the staff welcoming and informative. I would visit here more often as you can always find something new to do in York with its lovely pubs, eateries and shops and it is a lovely vibrant city, but as I've said you can't get on the site. If you are lucky enough to find a space you are in for a lovely break on a great site near to a great city.
Superb location for visiting the city of York.
A ten-minute walk into the centre of the city as well as being close to excellent walks for the dog. Facilities are great and the site is reasonably quiet. Nice shops a short walk from the back of the site - great Indian restaurant and good greengrocer amongst others.
perfect caravaner
first time here and had a great time, wardens very polite, toilets very clean and tidy, visit York to see all the sites, castle, steam museum, Jorvik museum, air museum, shambles shop's so much to do.
first week there, on Tuesday night the wind was getting worse, as we had a pump up awning about 4.30 am we had to take it down so never bother'd putting it up again still we had a great time what ever the weather.
on the 17th sept, sunday the wardens were called to action, one of the members had taken ill,
one warden had to run for the defibrillator then a paramedic arrived, the ambulance, also air ambulance, after a hour or so the patient went to hospital.
i praised the warden for what he did all though he was a bit shaken he deserved praise so well done the wardens.
when you see some thing like that happen it give's a lot of respect to the people who put there time and effort into looking after site and members. also come weekends the way the wardens organised new members was great on arrival showed them there pitch settle in then pay a good way to do it.
on the other side a lot of noise from six am to late night sirens from police, fire, ambulances,
but it did not spoil our holiday.
will definitely go there again and well done all wardens.
Great Site, Great Location
Stayed here on our way to tour Scotland, Really nice site, friendly staff and immaculate facilities. Just a short walk in to the City centre. Betty's Tea Rooms are worth a visit!
Good for York
York Rowntree Park is an Ideal location for visiting the city and further afield if desired. The river walks are good if you have a dog and around the city via the wall, no dogs allowed on the wall. The site can be a little noisy from the adjacent park in good weather and when the kids are off school but don't let that put you off. Its, IMOP, not a site for lazing around in all day, it’s a get out and do your thing and there is plenty to see and do. You can visit Cosmo World food for an all you can eat buffet, Bridge St, Ouse Bridge, for a very reasonable price. There are all kinds of food to try.
A visit to Eden Camp is very good and also to The Aircraft Museum which is also very good. Leaflets are in the site info room.
The two Weatherspoon pubs are good for real ale drinkers and food but there are many more pubs and eateries to visit although a bit more expensive.
We always use the showers at 17:00hrs ish after walking around all day with the dog and never found it busy at this time. The showers / toilets have always been very clean on our visits as you would expect from the CC.
Be aware, that in extreme wet weather, the site can flood and evacuation may be required which happened to us some years ago. There is a web cam that monitors the river in York which you can view prior to visiting.
If you like to get out and about, then this is great for York. If you are a site hugger, look for somewhere more scenic.
cones for some
Told not to go on a pitch with a cone on thinking they were kept for blue badge holders but young and fit couples going on the pitches after arriving late. The next time i manage a booking i will ask about the cones.
Excellent spot.
Really good spot by the river and park, five minutes and you are in York. Visit the Jorvik, museums, shambles and shop till you drop. Get a good breakfast and meals at Wetherspoons, Lovely walk along the river. There is a handy row of shops through a back gate... good for takeaways. Certainly go back here. Lovely staff too.
