Booked the stay at Rowntree several months ago but a late worry as the site was closed due to flooding to only a few days before our booking. Fortunately site opened before our stay which was brilliant! Lovely warm welcome on arrival and pitch just as we requested. Wardens so friendly and helpful and facilities block clean and tidy. Short walk into the heart of York with all the lovely pubs shops and sights the city has to offer.
On leaving on our planned day, it had rained heavily overnight and there was a sign on exit that campers need to keep in touch with site. Later that afternoon the site was evacuated.
Brilliant site, brilliant wardens, brilliant location, but just be aware of the flood risk.
Christmas markets visit
Haven't been here for a while as we have found alternative at better price and handy bus.
Queue for motorhome water point in the rain.possibly time for 2 considering amount of motorhomes that use the site.
Toilet block cool most of the time and water could be hotter.
Used bus from by sainsburys bishopthorpe road.
City busy as expected.
Will use again Subject to price.
Great location
Great location, very near centre of York (10/15 mins walk) with river to one side and a park to the other, The other sides of the site had houses/hotel so may have felt a little over looked, but we were the park side and that was great.
We used Streamline taxis to get about, excellent service, prompt, friendly drivers and not expensive, highly recommend.
Heart of Yorkshire
Even the Vikings didn’t get as close up and personal with York as you do staying at this premier site. Yorkshire at its best with the Caravan and Motorhome Club at its heart.

Good Central Site
Great site for visiting York, facilities and site very well run. Had a good welcome and chat from the warden when we arrived. Found the site close to city centre, enjoyed our visit
Location, location, location - thoroughly enjoyed our visit
Thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night short break on this excellent site. Brilliant location for visiting York, didn’t need to move the car ( good saving on car parking!) lovely, easy walk along the side of the river into York. Given proximity to the city, the site was quiet, far more so than we had expected. Site is compact as might be expected in the city but with so much leisure space directly outside of the site that was not an issue. Rowntree park ( next to the site) ideal for families and dog walking. Very friendly, efficient team welcomed us and worked tirelessly to ensure the excellent facilities remained immaculate at all times, even though the site was full throughout our stay.
There is so much to enjoy in York, whatever your interests. We enjoyed the lovely shops and eateries on Bishy Road ( accessed via the back gate of the site) Thoroughly enjoyed our first ever visit, we will return and have already recommended the site to others.
Do read and follow the good guidance on the club site on how best to approach the site, DO NOT follow Sat Nav
Thank you to the team there, we will be back
Perfect location
Great site. Perfectly located for easy access into the city. Facilities were spotless and warm. Site was very tidy. Welcoming staff. Rowantree park (just behind the site) was handy for the dogs. Loads of dog friendly places to eat. Ate at the Masons Arms and the Pavement Vaults. Site was full but quiet. Would definitely return
A Great site for later in the year
Another great stay at York. Last two days a bit of concern with the river rising but it has to be hoped that last years flood defence work has improved the situation.
By no means a picturesque site but it’s all about the city and what’s available locally. Lots of history from walking the walls, pop into the Minister, visit the Castle Museum, the Jorvik centre , Railway Museum to name a few. Wander round the streets and the Snickleways to take in the history and the sites.
For shoppers a good selection in the city but for those wanting more the Vanguard Centre, Monks Cross and the Designer Centre close by.
Drive or bus to Thirsk, Scarborough, Filey, Malton, Pickering, Beverley, Leeds and others, if you want to see more of Yorkshire.
Numerous Restaurants, Cafes and pubs to feed the inner man and rest awhile. We all have our favourites.
A trip to the Theatre Royal was a first for us to see Murder in the Dark, a change to our usual evening entertainment.
Members who have used the site before will need no telling about the brilliant “Bishy” road shops just out the back gate that can cater for all your needs.

Nice site, great location
Stayed here for the first time in September 2023. Nice clean site, good facilities, staff pleasant and friendly. The location is great, a mile away from the city centre, an easy way in. A bit of noise from kids playing in the local park, but otherwise a peaceful site so close to the city.
