Just got back from this site only second visit to this site in 9 years due to the high demand and members constantly booking pitches and not turning up and cancellations think it’s time for the club to start to take deposit to stop this on a lot of. Sites to give other members a chance to get to visit them yes I also do agree the price is very expensive just payed £144 for 3 nights overall it is getting on all the club sites now when you break it down the cost per night you can get on other non caravan club sites a lot cheaper and to the same standard so I must admit I think this might be my last renewal of my membership most sites now for service pitches I’ve been to for 2 adults is on average £30-£35 and I think the club now is getting far to expensive and you can’t always get on the sites anyhow
Great site but at a price
We have stayed on this site numerous times before. On our previous stay in March two nights at the weekend cost around £65 for the two of us, this time (12/04/2022) two nights midweek was £96. We love the site but having to pay this much certainly makes you think twice!
A slightly different perspective, for a change
We are very familiar with this site and City and have stayed here many times during the past 10 years but unfortunately our new van has not arrived yet re the delays and we had to cancel our booking. we were coming with long time friends who are brand new campers in a brand new van. I checked beforehand that the rules for visiting on site were back to pre pandemic situation and decided to book into the ApartHotel adjacent the site, Roomzzz, for a couple of nights so we could help our friends set up, settle in and learn how to use some of the bits of their new van they were not familiar with before leaving them to their own devices for 2 further nights.
Upon arrival our friends made the Warden on entry reception aware they were newbies and we were to visit to assist but I was happily surprised how much information and offers of assistance was given to them by the Warden, I didn't get his name unfortunately. He shortly afterwards arrived at their chosen pitch and offered further assistance with how to position their PVC and connect electrics etc. I thought this was extremely helpful and not what I received when we were brand new and on our own. I just though he was excellent.
The 2 ladies on reception upon learning they were brand new took their time to explain the booking in procedure and explain the site information that they needed to know.
Over the next couple of days, when we visited from our hotel, we met another Warden, Matt Bulmer who after checking who we were, which was reassuring, also offered much support and contact to our friends providing friendly reassurance and offers of help. I was really pleased to see this taking place throughout the whole team at York and I thought I would write a review to simply recognise and thank all the team for their help.
Re the site it was nothing less than immaculately clean in every way and all the staff gave a positive, friendly and a welcoming atmosphere was very apparent. Well done you all.
We also had a great time visiting York once again, a great site with perfect location despite the flood defence work making foot access a bit more time consuming than normal, but only by a matter of minutes to go via the rear gate. These will be finished I understand in July.
Beware Flood defense work
We very rarely use Club Site( too many people, too many rows and too many rules). We actually use almost exclusively CLs, in fact this is the only site that we have used more than once. The reason we use this site is that it is walking distance to the centre of York.
I admit I didn't read the confirmation email detailing the diversion to access the site but this was not a great problem.
The site is fine like all Club sites. Just not something we really like.
My complaint was about walking access to the site. We come to York to go shopping and visit some of the excellent pubs and restaurants ( we live in an isolated rural area so its just about our nearest city ).
The rear pedestrian entrance to Vine street was an acceptable detour to access the site up to 10 pm when it is padlocked!.
This puts an extra approx 1 and half mile walk to access the front gate. at 11 pm after hard day of site seeing shopping and eating thats a bit of a tall order.
The gate is a secure one with a sturdy lock and firm foundations with protective wire around.
We shall not visit the site again until the access problems are sorted out.
Fantastic Stay
This is such a magnificent site ... but it is not the site that most impresses ..... facilities, staff, roomy and huge spacious pitches all pale into the background as it is the location that is outstanding about this site. 10 minutes on foot ... yes 10 minutes from Clifford's Tower ... the start of York's central attractions. Even though there are flood defence works happening don't let the comments and whinges about these put you off. The place is brilliant.
Notable shout outs to 'the swan' (fantastic traditional pub no music no 1 arm bandits), the slip inn ( a little more modern but no nonsense stuff) , bish road bohemiam delis, coffee houses, and bakeries. I could wax lyrical about the York attractions but they are well documented. My joy at having a fantastic 5 nights at this site in fantastic weather mid march knows no bounds.

Excellent site, friendly helpful staff.
I stayed one night in February the day after Storm Eunice. The site was in danger of flooding, yet the highly competent, experienced and very friendly staff, managed to keep it safe, and open as long as possible under the most taxing of circumstances. Facilities were spotless accessed via a ramp or steps. Site is all hard standing, essential because it is low lying. Pitches are flat and mainly divided by hedges. Some other reviewer said it felt like a "car park". Well, it didn't at all to me. The website clearly warns about current site restrictions and possible daytime noise, but the works are due to end soon - check with the site.. The point about this site is that it is near the centre of the beautiful tourist city of York, which is within walking distance for ordinarily fit people, and if necessary, an efficient taxi service can collect and return. Yet it is situated in a park, with a delightful river walk, so it is very popular. Book well ahead if you can. The staff went out of their way to make my short visit successful. My wife and I will certainly be booking at Rowntree Park again.
First time ever
Lovely clean site. Ideal for visiting York. Was a bit of a hike to get into the centre with the ongoing works .
Good facilities with lots on your doorstep and a great chippy just up the road.
Great weekend stay
Access not a problem.Staff very nice and helpful.Facilities spotless.
Short walk into York enjoyed the Shamble Tavern
home cooked food at fair price and lots of local brews at £4 a pint
and great staff..
Lovely cycle path from site through racecourse and beyond
Be back in the summer hopefully..
Noise galore
Love this location however this time there were traffic works which diverted you so access to York centre was a nightmare. Also the drilling all day was relentless. If we were told About this we would of went else where.

Great site
The site is a few minutes walk from the York wall and only a few minutes more to the centre of town. In the three days we were there we walked the wall, took an open top bus, took a boat trip, visited the minster, visited the roman baths under the pub and lots of other places.
The site is slightly unusual in that it has to survive being flooded so it is mostly gravel, the power points are up high and the reception and facilities are up on the first floor. There is, however, a ramp to allow disabled access.
The temporary access to town through Vine Street is very easy but you do need to be back by 10pm or walk an extra ten minutes by the main exit.
We loved the place.
