We booked this site becuase of the location, which we thought would mean we could easily access York on foot. With the flood defence work in progress, we had to use the rear entrance. We were given a key for the rear entrance, but this gate was padlocked at 10pm (not sure why it needs a padlock in addition to a key lock), which meant if we weren't back by 10pm we would need to walk an extra mile or get a taxi. We received information about the impact of the flood work on vehicle access, but don't recall seeing anything abour restricted pedestrian access. It would have been useful to know this before we booked.
Fantastic Location for Visiting York
Lovely site , with an easy walk in to York, even if the flood defence work is still in progress. The "new" route in is fine and for a city centre very manageable with no bottlenecks to contain with.Just be careful when turning into Butcher Terrace that you allow for you van length's on the back,as caravan in front hit kerb quite hard.
York is an amazing city to walk around with visits to the Shambles and a guided tour inside the Minster, this was so good as without the guide you would have just walked past without knowing the history or story behind it.
The Yorvik experience is good (not brilliant) but takes you through the story of York on a train ride.Pubs and restaurants aplenty and lovely having a drink on the river.
The lovely Museum Gardens are pleasant to stroll around but they do close at 18.00hrs. We did do the York Dungeon but be careful it is not really suitable for under 10's.and you do need a sense of humour. It has sketches with real characters some really funny.
Site is very nice wardens let me pitch first then go back and pay,one thing I did notice was the large pitches, plenty of room for awning car and van, that's if you are on an awning pitch.
You can see why this is one of the most popular (but no cheap) club site.
Here again.
2nd visit this year.all facilities as expected but toilet block could be warmer early and evenings.especially for high site fees.
Not full so I expect thats to do with cost ad well.
No workmen over weekend.don't think embankment work will ever be done.
York busy with lots of people about.good bus service to Leeds.
Nice to wander round bishopthorpe Road on Sunday for the street party.even in the cool damp weather.
Xmas fayre week next.
Great location, very clean well organised, great wardens
Loved this site, great location, really very easy to get to even with the diversions no problem at all, it's sign posted at the last bit. Had a great pitch 49 down the middle a wide pitch plenty of room with hedges dividing the pitches. The showers and toilet block were absolutely spotless! As was the test of the site. Enjoyed the walk into York 20 minutes, lovely walk around Rowntree park at the side, great for kids lots of slides, zip wire, swings & frames and also up to Bishopthorpe Road, several shops couple of pubs
take aways etc there & a handy Sainsburys.
I would like to thank the wardens on this site, my husband was taken poorly i had loads of washing to do I had no washing powder, they gave me some of theirs as I didn't want to leave him on the site alone. They kept making sure i was okay and asking how he was throughout the day and the next day.
They always had a pleasant smile and were nice and friendly and very approachable nothing was too much trouble. I have already booked to go back next year !
Brilliant
I had a brilliant overnight here. Arrived at 1pm and headed straight into York (15 minutes walk) and then returned in the evening by the riverside walk, which is quite a bit longer. Really helpful staff team. I had a very peaceful night and I will return.
Brilliant location, well maintained site with lovely wardens
This site is an excellent base for exploring York, situated next to the river it has excellent walks right on the doorstep. The site is very popular and it’s easy to see why, you can walk into York via a lovely local suburb with great shops, bars and cafes. The site has good facilities, is very well maintained and has lots of benefits being so close to the city. Next door is the lovely Rowntree Park with a great play area for children and nice walks. Also on this site the wardens went out of their way to help us, they were so lovely - Mark and Jules were fantastic and really helped us when we had an issue. Wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend.
Excellent site for visiting the City Centre
We have stayed here many times, using the location for visiting York and much of North Yorkshire. Ideal for walking and cycling. Always busy, but by booking as soon as the dates become available we've managed to get a 10 day stay most years. Over time there have been a number of changes of wardens, but the site has always been well maintained, always tidy. The site is prone to flooding, but you wouldn't notice if you went after one of these events due to the way the site is cleaned up! This year provided more of a challenge to reach the site due to flood defence works causing changes to the approach to the site, though next time we come these will have gone and the directions to the site will revert to the usual instructions! Getting into York required a small diversion if walking in, but only added on a couple of minutes. The only criticism I can make is a common one - there were so many outfits driving round the site well over the 5mph speed limit, and with no obvious intervention by the wardens to slow anyone down! But I accept it's difficult to enforce...

Can be noisy and lacks charm
Fantastic location because its easy for walking into York - BUT it's adjacent to a block of self catering apartments which can be very noisy with young partygoers at night - and the other side of the park has a huge kids play park - noisy during the day!
Throw in some very noisy dogs and you get the idea!
This is a high density park - always full so can feel like you are in an outdoor caravan sales yard!
Also noted that some overseas motorhomes use the club facilities but park on the grass verges outside the site...
An Excellent Site!
We had been trying to get on this site for several years but had always found it fully booked. Returning from a tour of Scotland we managed to get a non awning pitch for a couple of nights and the site didn't disappoint. Even with the road closure outside the site it was an easy walk into York. The toilet and shower block were among the best we've seen on any site and the Wardens were friendly and helpful.
The site is a very busy one and there's always movement of units going in and out and we did have one person force his way through the hedge at the back of our pitch and walk across it - there's always one; but the practice of walking across pitches does seem to be becoming more common on all sites these days.
That said, couldn't fault the site and great for visiting York.
The Best Site
A really brilliant location, right by the park, River and easy walking distance into York. Very professional, friendly staff group went out of their way to make sure our stay was really enjoyable. The facilities are top class, everything you need on site, we will definitely be returning and for longer next time.
