Beautiful site . Wish I could give 5 stars instead of 4 .

I knew from previous experience that this was, and still is , a really well kept site . However , upon arrival I soon realized that some of the reviews I had read about warden friendliness were actually true . Nothing takes the shine off your happy and exciting arrival more , than a dour , stern face that doesn't smile , or wish you a pleasant stay . Which is a shame really , as the other warden staff were extremely pleasant and friendly . With regards to the site and facilities , they are really well maintained , clean , immaculately kept and very well looked after , which is a credit to the staff . However , during our few nights stay , not one of the hand sanitizer stations around the facilities block were filled at all . Whilst I'm sure that we're all aware that the risk of serous illness due to covid is much less then previous , it still has the potential and capability to ruin a holiday . I personally began to feel unwell on my last night there , believing I perhaps had a touch too much of then sun . Our party moved on to another site for a further two nights before arriving home , where I took a covid test and it was positive . Had the campsite kept the hand sanitizers filled , just as every place in York did , we could then say that the site had done all they could to help prevent infection. During my stay here I learned just how unhygienic many adult males are . Out of six people using the toilet block at the same time as myself ( 3 in cubicles and 3 at urinals ) , the basins and hand drier was used ONCE ! To make things worse , you have to pull a door handle to get out . The same handle as used by the 'unclean' . The campsite cannot be held responsible for the actions , and unhygienic habits of their visitors , but providing hand sanitizers gives an individual a fighting chance of killing covid bacteria amongst other things . On the whole , my visit here was excellent , and this well laid out site is well capable of 5 stars from pretty much everyone , but let down by 2 very inexpensive things .

Excellent stay

A fabulous campsite with good level and well spaced out pitches. The facilities are first class with a dedicated team keeping things all ship shape. The wardens extremely helpful and friendly - thanks for a great stay.

Excellent Spotless Toilet Block.........but

Spent 3 nights at Beechwood Grange. Unfortunately upon booking in I and my wife sensed a degree of indifference to us the warden seemed just a little too regimented in approach, not what I would term as particularly welcoming. The charges I felt were a little on the heavy side especially considering lack of fully serviced pitches i.e no fresh water or grey waste facility on pitches. The toilet/shower block was excellent and spotlessly clean, the site in general appeared very well manitained. Due to the sites close proximity to paddocks and horses meant dog walking on the site approach was not allowed, however, the site did have an excellent dog walking field. The site appeared to be busy although I personally thought it overpriced, I happened to pass time of day with someone who had been on site for a week and they also mentioned they thought it was expensive. This is a good site but not as good as CAMC thinks it is. I feel there are friendlier better value sites in the area of equal quality. It is unlikely I would use this site again.

Lovely site with 1 drawback

This is a lovely site with immaculate facilities and helpful, friendly staff. The cleanliness of the toilet block could not be bettered and there seemed to be great detail to maintaining the landscaped areas. There is a small shop at reception selling a few essentials. The pitch was almost level for our motorhome, only needing a little levelling, and was very spacious. TV and 4G reception was good. There is an enclosed dog field which is a brilliant idea for allowing your dog to run off the lead. Having said all this I don’t think we’ll return to the site due to the rule concerning walking dogs off the site. This is not allowed due to issues with livestock and so a vehicle is needed to get your dog off site. Anyone with a motorhome will know that this isn’t really feasible. I asked a member of staff about this and he suggested getting a taxi!! The approach road is wide enough, in my opinion, to allow a responsible owner to walk a dog on a short lead to the site entrance. This is a real pity as the site is perfect in every other way. There is a site next door which looks great and has no such restrictions so I think we’ll use that when we have our dog with us.

Tourist visit

We were disappointed with this place. The staff are not particularly friendly comparing this with other sites. The atmosphere on the site is unfriendly also. We had a complaint about our dog barking at 7.30 am which was short lived as he was anxious to go out for his walk. He isn’t a very barking dog and this was very upsetting and spoilt our stay. It is impossible to access the park and ride without crossing several very roundabouts. Overall although the site is immaculate and the dog walking field is great we won’t come back here again.

Lovely site well kept and friendly wardens

Only one drawback to this site, and that is only relevant to MH users. There is a good 15 minute walk to the nearest bus, which is now run by Castle Line, the nearest stop being at the Toby Carvery the other side of the big junction, and these only run every couple of hours, the last bus back being late afternoon. However, this is the bus which also goes to Castle Howard so that's a bonus. You can cycle into York from here too, though we couldn't on this trip. There are dedicated motorhome spaces at the nearby shopping centre too, but we prefer to leave the van at the campsite. The campsite has done a deal with a local taxi for a fixed rate (could be two couples) for a taxi, which if you don't have a free bus pass, is not a bad deal. Otherwise a very nice site and would visit again.

Lovely wardens!

We visited this site with our new puppy who we had only had for 2 weeks. We thought it would be good for her to see and hear children playing, see and hear other dogs and be outdoors to experience the sounds of nature. We absolutely loved it. The weather was beautiful for Easter. One thing that stood out for us was how lovely the wardens were. They were very helpful, always present and they keep the site immaculately clean. We will definitely visit this site again.
