We often visit this site as it is well maintained, and the wardens are friendly and helpful. Facilities are clean and in good condition. We have a 9m Motorhome and find a tow car a must to get into York as the bus is about a 25 min walk and I have mobility problem.
Fantastic dog walking field.
Lovely weekend
Great weekend, staff very friendly and helpful.
Facilities were spotless.
Grounds very well kept.
Just a nice relaxing time.
5stars.
fantastic site
just came home from york , missing it all ready, Andy and jane are just fantastic they have the site running like clock work , everything spot on cant wait to get back so glad to see a site with friendly helpful staff makes you travels so much better thanks again ally and karen
Excellent
Site is easy to find as just off A64 for most people. Do be aware though that his road can be very busy at weekends and have hold ups. The site is a large flat one laid out in typical club style but roads are not regimented so has good atmosphere. Easy access to shopping area and park and ride with facilities for motorhomes so York is no problem. But as very close to main roads it is excellent for touring the area. There is some modest road noise but not enough to bother us and pitches the far end should be quieter still. Great site for us although motor homes wanting just to do York might find Rowntree Park a better option.
fantastic site
lost count how many times been there now was great to see graham and pat coving for a week , also Andy and jane was also fantastic this site is getting better and better every time i go there , we had just been in Spain for 7 weeks but had to stop in buy our 2nd home for a night , which lasted a week , hopefully not to long before we get back to see the troops thanks again all was magic
Perfection in a Caravan and Motorhome club site
Third visit to our go to fav place. The site is spotless, the shower blocks have plenty of room, hot water and also maintained to a very high standard, the other facilities are also excellent, the wardens are very helpful and accomodating, the site is perfectly placed for easy access to the wonderul city of York and the surrounding countryside is perfect for a chill out and relaxation break, whats not to love? Yes the rooks are nesting at the moment and a little noisy but this is the heart of the Yorkshire countryside in Spring, what do people expect? We will be back again and again and again, simply perfect.
Let down by the staff on site
Booked in here in May 2023 and whilst it was not too far from home,I wish we had booked & travelled further afield.
The site is clean and well looked after but the wardens need to go on a course on how to deal with customers and make them feel welcome. After you have worked all week, is it that hard to smile and make a little lighthearted banter/conversation with a new arrival or when they come to the main site office for help?
Send the wardens to the Cayton Village site for a bit of training in customer service skills.
Otherwise, yes the site was clean, tidy, well kept with good facilities.
Shame about the nesting Crows too but hey, that’s nature and out of our control. Now knowing they nest at this time of year around the main wooded edge of the site, I would recommend missing early summer to avoid the noise.
Friendly site with good facilities
We booked last minute as we’d been let down by a local CL whose pitches were still too wet but we were very happy with this alternative. It was midweek in April at the start of the Easter holidays so it was still pretty quiet, apart from the nesting crows!
The staff were friendly and welcoming. They run a little reception shop which fewer sites do now, we appreciated being able to buy icecreams on a hot afternoon!
The site is well kept, good clean shower block, nice play area and sports field and our dog loved the dog field.
We were visiting friends locally so didn’t do much in the area though we did take a trip to beautiful Fraisthorpe Beach and The Cow Shed cafe there (about an hour away) which we’d highly recommend, especially if you too have a dog.
Excellent for exploring York
This site is an excellent place to stay for visiting York and all it has to offer. Options for days out are in abundance and those that tow can use the very local park and ride and easily gain quick access to York on a bus.
Should you forget anything you need for your stay then there are adequate shops local to source it. Less 10 minutes drive can get you to:
- A large retail park with most of your high street shops, 2 supermarkets and a cinema/bowling complex. This is next to monks cross park and ride.
- A caravan dealers with shop for if you need anything to make your stay on the site that bit more comfortable or replace anything that got left at home. It also has awnings on display if you visiting this site as a newish owner and still amassing everything.
- A designer outlet for anything else these other 2 locations can't cater for. It also has a great covered park so should the weather not be favourable to using the on-site park then come use this one.
In terms of the site it was exceptionally clean and well maintained. It has a great park for kids of varying sizes from toddlers up, as there is big and little play equipment. Friendly staff and friendly holiday makers. There was also a good amount of water points so you were not having to drag them far to fill/empty it.
Even though this site is just on the perimeter of York and literally just off the main roads to everything you were unable to tell. The site was peaceful and had a countryside feel. This is definitely our go to site now for York when we return to York to visit everything we didn't fit in on this trip.
Busy site yet still peaceful
The site is well maintained and the majority of club staff were friendly and professional. Although a popular site the only sound was that of birdsong. We enjoyed a wonderful relaxing break. My only concern is the toilet flushing buttons. The pressure needed to push the button is impossible for arthritic hands to achieve.
