Friendly site with good facilities

We booked last minute as we’d been let down by a local CL whose pitches were still too wet but we were very happy with this alternative. It was midweek in April at the start of the Easter holidays so it was still pretty quiet, apart from the nesting crows! The staff were friendly and welcoming. They run a little reception shop which fewer sites do now, we appreciated being able to buy icecreams on a hot afternoon! The site is well kept, good clean shower block, nice play area and sports field and our dog loved the dog field. We were visiting friends locally so didn’t do much in the area though we did take a trip to beautiful Fraisthorpe Beach and The Cow Shed cafe there (about an hour away) which we’d highly recommend, especially if you too have a dog.

Excellent for exploring York

This site is an excellent place to stay for visiting York and all it has to offer. Options for days out are in abundance and those that tow can use the very local park and ride and easily gain quick access to York on a bus. Should you forget anything you need for your stay then there are adequate shops local to source it. Less 10 minutes drive can get you to: - A large retail park with most of your high street shops, 2 supermarkets and a cinema/bowling complex. This is next to monks cross park and ride. - A caravan dealers with shop for if you need anything to make your stay on the site that bit more comfortable or replace anything that got left at home. It also has awnings on display if you visiting this site as a newish owner and still amassing everything. - A designer outlet for anything else these other 2 locations can't cater for. It also has a great covered park so should the weather not be favourable to using the on-site park then come use this one. In terms of the site it was exceptionally clean and well maintained. It has a great park for kids of varying sizes from toddlers up, as there is big and little play equipment. Friendly staff and friendly holiday makers. There was also a good amount of water points so you were not having to drag them far to fill/empty it. Even though this site is just on the perimeter of York and literally just off the main roads to everything you were unable to tell. The site was peaceful and had a countryside feel. This is definitely our go to site now for York when we return to York to visit everything we didn't fit in on this trip.

Busy site yet still peaceful

The site is well maintained and the majority of club staff were friendly and professional. Although a popular site the only sound was that of birdsong. We enjoyed a wonderful relaxing break. My only concern is the toilet flushing buttons. The pressure needed to push the button is impossible for arthritic hands to achieve.

August 22

Visited this site following a return to caravanning after about an 8 year break. Lovely clean well kept site, play park and football field for youngsters and nice area where you can let your dog off the lead. Easy access and flat hard standing pitches. Toilet block clean and plenty of showers no problems and the site was busy as running up to BH weekend. Close to Monks Cross park and ride for York centre. Lots to visit in local area. Toby carvery just over the roundabout we had a lovely meal there, booked online. Booked 3 nights originally and booked another night as we’re having a good time. Prices hiked up a bit, however a) it was peak rate b) have had not good experiences on private sites c) you know what you’re getting with the CC and always have felt secure. Hope to visit again soon.

Not for everyone.

We visited this site in August 2022. On paper it has a full range of facilities including a playground, a dog field, a tent area and the usual toilets and showers all in Club style. The pitches are hard standing and flat. They are a good size. There are three areas of concern for me. Firstly the fact that you might feel rather confined to the site. You can’t walk off the site with a dog as they are not allowed on the drive because of horses in the fields alongside. You must use a car. This isn’t so much of a challenge because there is no footpath access from the site al all. Even the A4 folder of local walks starts with instructions of where to drive your car. Of course if, like us, your main purpose is to visit the city of York itself then that probably OK. The Park and Ride is nearby and provides a good, frequent, reliable service. However, be aware that there is a 2m height restriction on the access so whilst our vow camper could get in, anything bigger will struggle and parking in York is not cheap. Secondly, on our visit it seems that people are less fastidious about looking after the toilet and washing facilities than they used to be. There was a lot of toilet paper left on the floor and several of the toilets were in an unusable condition though there are toilet brushes on hand. It seems that a thorough clean is done at the 10.30am closing time - but maybe interim inspections might be made every 4 hours or so? The third thing to be aware of is, as on some other club sites, that the duty staff are rather “rule bound” and quick to investigate any non standard equipment. This does get a little tiresome when you are not used to living in a “dorm inspection” environment. I assume that there is a strict formula used for training staff but perhaps some attention to people skills is required? So I would say that this site is quite adequate as a base for exploring the City of York but not really for a relaxed holiday break. It’s a bit like the camping equivalent of a Premier Inn (and that’s no bad thing): not cheap but you know what you will get even if it’s a bit bland. It’s not for everyone.

Good site for York and around

York Beechwood is a lovely campsite with great facilities on site for all. Children are well catered for with a great play park and a field for ball games (bonus for 2 teenage boys). There's even a pétanque area so worth packing your boules to play here. There is a dog walking field/ area which I think would have been vital as you are unable to walk your dog down the approach road due to the request of the adjoining stables (our dog stayed at home as we were planning on heading into York). I note this has been an issue for some, especially those in motorhomes and I think if we'd had our dog with us it would have been tricky even though we're in a small camper van. The pitches are large, spacious, flat and I think all hardstanding, although there is a field for tents too. The toilet block was standard CAMC, large showers, hot water, toilets and enclosed wash basins and plenty of them. Definitely kept clean. Access to York is relatively easy via the park and ride with it's frequent buses and worked really well for us, but it's quite a walk so we drove here. Apparently there is a more local bus, but when we looked it wasn't particularly frequent, so might be worth enquiring. If you had bikes you could consider the fairly flat cycle into the city, but the cycle lanes are on the edge of the carriageway rather than entirely separated. We have also stayed at York Rowntree Park which also has great facilities. I think if you had a dog and/or motorhome this may be a better site, but it is not as peaceful, nor as spacious.

Great Time In York!

We stayed at York Beechwood Grange Club Site 1st - 7th Aug 2022. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The toilet blocks were spacious and clean. Unfortunately some older children arrived midweek and decided to have their bit of fun by putting the toilet paper on the floor of each cubicle of the men's toilet block late a night, My husband said this only happened on one morning only. The ladies toilet block was fine. Also sadly these older children had shown the younger children on the site to play in the woods behind the caravans outside the perimeter of the site. This was reported and the staff were monitoring the area and putting up signs that had been pulled down. Other than that, we had a lovely time here. We visited York town, Jorvick Viking Centre, Scarborough and Halifax - Shibden Hall, Halifax Minster, Piece Hall and Banksfield Museum seeing the BBC costumes from the drama 'Gentleman Jack'. Overall we enjoyed our stay at York Beechwood Grange and would like to thank the staff for looking after the site so well. :)

Poor value for money

Having been members for 40 years we were disappointed at the cost, ( over £40.00 per night for 2 people) considering the poor television reception (no bollard hookup) and the disappointing club WiFi signal. Dogs were walking around unchallenged. On the whole disappointing.

Perfect place

We had a great time here and found the wardens to be very friendly and helpful. The site is beautifully kept and the sanitiser I used at the toilet block was working fine! There is a Toby carvery around 15 minutes walk away but other than that, there is not much to do without taking the car. The weather wasn’t great so we spent a lot of time on site and found it very quiet and relaxing. Caravan club wifi was pretty good and TV signal perfect. A big open site giving huge sky views which we love
