Near the vilage of Dirleton, with it's castle. The village is pretty with a village green and expensive houses. The Castle Inn and Open Arms Hotel are worth a visit for lunch. The beach is close by, accessed by a footpath through the woods. There are plenty of rock pools for the kids to play in. The 'flying squad' wardens were really friendly and helpful, especially as we had booked to leave the day before we really wanted to! They managed to fit us in, even though the site was full - what more could you ask? The facilities were, as always impecably clean. There were loads of rabbits and as a result plenty of rabbit holes too! This made the site quite undulating. North Berwick is a 3 mile walk along the beach and another 3 miles back along the easier to walk footpaths. There were plenty of eateries in the town, which is full of individual shops (not chain stores). Edinburgh is about 30 mins on the train from North Berwick. The open top bus was very disappointing, but the visit to the royal yacht Britannia was worthwhile. A walk around nearby East Linton was also disappointing, although the old mill is worth a visit, with a lot of road noise and so so scenery. In summary a pleasant stay, but not special.
