A lovely well kept site in a beautiful location (Wharfedale!). Walks available straight from the site. Skipton is about 10 miles, well worth a visit,; it has numerous market days & the Leeds & Liverpool Canal where you can take a 1 hour "cruise". Nearby is Malham Cove - gets very busy so go early. The only down side whilst we were there was an irresponsible dog owner who allowed the dog to use the grass between pitches. Not everyone likes dogs!
I last left a review of this site many months ago as we use it often, as we've just come home from another stay the club asks for a review, we have never had anything other than fantastic stays here at Wharfedale, everything about it is great for me the mrs and our dog.
Straight out of the site you can walk for miles upon miles across the moors with the dog off the lead, Grassington is probably 25 mins walk but we take a little longer as we walk to the surrounding villages as well.
If we have one little gripe its that the showers are a tad dated, that won't put us off going again in the very near future though.
Oh, forgot to say, in wet weather a fair few pitches get swamped but on the main the wardens do a great job zoning them off but the weather can catch them out at times.
Love the place.
Our caravan sustained substantial damage during a break in, whilst in storage. We had only been caravanning for 18 months and our confidence and interest was severely compromised to the point of almost giving up. However, with the help of Caravan Club insurance we finally became viable again after a long wait for parts from the manufacturer and anxiously set off for The Wharfedale Site. The warden's welcome was warm and supportive and we started to feel a little better, we chose a lovely pitch although they were all super and beautifully maintained. The site was like that all the way through, and the facilities totally spotless and shiny!
Our fellow neighbours were all helpful as were the cheerful, hard-working staff. Our confidence returned and we thoroughly enjoyed the excellent walking in gorgeous and varied landscapes, punctuated with high quality food and drink in the Dales hostelries nearby. We thank the site staff and The Caravan Club for renewing our relationship with the joy of caravanning and highly recommend The Wharfdale Site.
Stayed here for a week in August. Pitches are mainly flat but we needed lifting blocks so don't forget you may need them.
Excellent facilities and a good walking base.
The nearest pub was a 10 minute walk away. The dog friendly Gamekeepers Inn which we found excellent. We did not try the restaurant but it was busy and looked OK
Spent a lovely time at this site, it is fabulous for walking, both from site and short drive away. The one beef I have is the shower block does need refurbishing, it is looking really tired and outdated. Also the one way system is not always adhered to.
1. During my one week stay I saw at least four cars and three complete car + caravan outfits going the wrong way in the one-way system. This is not acceptable.
2. Dogs:-
(a) Were left free to roam by a number of people and one left it's deposit on the next pitch (after I chased it away).
(b) Another dog came into the awning of people I was visiting, they were not there at the time but it went in just as I arrived and I was able to chase it away before it caused a problem.
(c) Dogs were left in unoccupied caravans for long periods and were howling in a caravan next to people I was visiting.
The Club needs to make more regular tours of the campsite and take firm action against people causing problems.
Lovely location with many, easy well signposted country walks to nearby villages. Good pubs to visit at Linton and Burnsall (and the Gamekeeper's on the adjacent static caravan park). There is a children's playground on site for families. For those without children be aware that the playground is located centrally and expect noise in school holidays!
Will certainly visit again but after the school holidays.
Being new to caravanning we booked this site because we knew the area but had never stayed there. It was absolutely lovely and our grandson had such a good time on the play park with other children. I felt it was safe and secure. The whole site was spotless and everyone was so friendly and we will be going back. If I have any criticism it is the fact you can pay for your booking by card but have to pay cash in the shop. Which for someone like me who never has cash was completely alien. However the lovely lady allowed me to pay the next day so problem solved but think in this day and age this is a bit outdated
This site is ideally situated for the mid and lower dales, lots to do-wonderful scenery and villages, Skipton nice market town too, great walks galore, the site was very clean and wardens very friendly. Toilet block and service points are old and dated and do need some updating but that shouldn't put anyone off going as the site is still really nice. Quite a few flies around it must be the time of year, also on the dog walk and adjoining footpaths (plenty of places to walk with dogs nearby) it was a bit off putting but not too serious an issue. We hope to return soon to this lovely area.
We were met with a warm welcome from the warden's. The pitch we had was one that we had been on at previous visits and was reasonablly. flat and gravelled to a high standard.
The site location is perfect as a centre to see the Dales and there is an adequate bus service to Skipton.
We recommend this site and are looking forward to returning there.
