Great for walking

We like this site. Its peaceful yet has all the facilities we need. The toilet and shower block is spotlessly clean and lovely and warm. I was looking forward to my morning shower but unfortunately for some reason there was no hot water that morning! Im sure it was sorted out but I couldn't wait around in my dressing gown and had to shower in our motorhome instead. Theres a nice pub just five minutes walk away and they let dogs into the bar area. We didn't eat there but the food smelt great. We had a lovely day exploring Grassington and walking along the river, i bout a local walking map from the tourist information office and there looks to be plenty of good walking in the area. As others have said our pitch was sloping and we had to go to the top of our ramps to get level. Overall its a really nice site, maybe they could level up the pitches but thats all it needs. Great friendly wardens.

Good area

Back from a first visit to this re vamped site shame they did not bother to make the pitches flat and level while the site was closed, please see other members comments about this but doubt the powers that be that run the club will bother doing owt as guess they are caravaners not motorhomers…….(some other club sites are as bad and have been for years))). Toilet block looks good nice to wash up in the warm and dry not out in the damp cold and as again been said shower heads are not much good but the hot water was fine for us.Worth the effort to walk into Grassington at the least for a coffee and toasted tea cake. Did not have time for a longer walk but area is great.

Lovely first visit will be back

This was my first outing in my motorhome. I am a 66 year old recently widowed lady. Stayed on the site for 4 days with my eldest daughtet and 3 dogs. As others have mentioned you will probably need levelling blocks for most pitches but really not a problem. Lovely dog walks and walk into Grassington was easy. Spar shop at local garage which is very handy. Lovely pub on adjoining caravan park. Facilities were always lovely and clean and the showers we used were good. Access is easy and wardens were always lovely and friendly. I will definitely be visiting again.

Good but could be better

Just returned from a five-night stay on this site, which has recently had a full refurbishment. The site itself is in a good position, with easy access. The walk into Grassington is moderately easy and takes 30-40 minutes. The facilities on-site are overall very good. However, the shower heads are of a poor design with a poor flow rate. The individual water jets are too fine and the sensation of having your skin blasted by needle sharp jets of water is unpleasant, to say the least. Overall, a clean, well managed site in spectacular surroundings.

Third visit - but probably the last one

Just spent 2 nights at the site, and our reason for using it is to wander round the area and drive out to see the Dales. Being a motorhome user, we do feel a bit under-catered for, especially as very few of the new hard standings are level and most of them need 3 ramps or 4 corner screws to achieve a reasonable level - 'because it's a caravan club' someone told me. We take two wheel ramps, maximum height being about 4 or 5 inch (for those who haven't brexitted yet, that's a hundred and odd mm) - and lifting 3 corners is difficult with two ramps. It's as if level pitches are a thing of the past? Come on caravan club, start thinking about motorhomers as customers, nay - members, and not by just an extra word in your club name. Most of the advice leaflets tell us that it's a short car drive to so-and-so, and we're happy to drive out in the motorhome, but nothing tells us whether we'll get through, or not, or be able to park or turn round, or if there's a height limit in the parking facilities. 'Because we're a caravan club' someone told me 'so we are all expected to have a car with us'. Showers - the new and universal caravan club shower nozzles are totally useless. Some dribble down the wall, causing users to burn their skin on the hot pipe as you try to squeeze under the dribble. Others seem to be upside down and squirt high pressure needle sharp jets of water into your face and eyes and over the curtain. Wharfedale has both, as well as the added benefit of hot water which keeps going cold while in use. What is it about 'showers' that is so hard to achieve? All that's needed is a device that creates a shower of water under which we can safely wash, whilst standing in a reasonable position. The site facilities are otherwise good and clean (unless you happen to follow one of the many 'dirty-protesters' into the toilets). Drivers - 5 miles an hour seems to be an unachievable speed for some motorists - cars and motorhomes, and at Wharfedale, several of them were seen swerving onto someone else's pitch as they drive round the site, instead of going over the speed retarders. Why are so many members scared of toilet brushes and speed ramps? Suggestion - install speed cameras on sites, and part of our membership booking agreement should be amended to say that on booking, we accept the £100 credit card charge which will be donated to charity every time we exceed the speed limit? Anyone who objects obviously wants to go too fast, and they will no longer want to be members, leading to safer sites.

ONE OF YORKSHIRE'S BEST

Me and my wife visited here beginning of September this year and were met with stunning views staff and glorious weather. The cleanliness was second to none and the upkeep of the site was fantastic. Walking out of the back gate is a nice 40 minutes walk to Grassington...a little town but big on the map! Walks by the river Wharfs are amazing and a visit to Skipton is a must. Will be back asap

Caravaning is on the way out!

This is the first site I've stayed at where Motorhomes were outnumbering caravans by about 2:1. I assume the location draws those who prefer motorhomes towing 2nd cars or followed by the "other half". The number of van based campers seems to be increasing, cost I guess, the downside is that the site resembles a camping ground when they've all gone out for the day and leave their large frame tent based awnings stood on the pitch. Another draw to this site is clearly the dog owning fraternity. Large numbers of dogs on site and many owners having two dogs. There was quite a bit of barking amongst the dogs and some at night from those dogs left out in awnings overnight. Having said that the location is great and ideal for walking. Make a point of walking to the quarry alongside the site, it resembles the film location for Star Wars. Facilities excellent and with the large static park a short walk away offering a pub, restaurant, coffee shop, gym and spa it is ideal for something different.

Sets the standard by which all others may be judged

Visited in May 2018 for 5 nights when we were unexpectedly blessed with superb weather. The site is wonderfully well situated for any number walks without the need for transport though there are convenient bus services which enable exploration further afield. There's a well stocked shop which contains a good quality local butcher at a short walk away, also a commendably good eating pub similarly at strolling distance. Grassington, a fine Dales village is within easy reach. The site itself, though typical Club open plan 'all in a row' uninteresting layout, is very well kept and quiet. A real bonus was that the modern and clean showers provide that rare thing - truly hot water. The warden staff were helpfulness personified. Needless to say, we look forward to returning.

Peace and quiet

A beautiful site, kept in excellent condition in an ideal place for touring the southern dales. We will be back. The only fault is one found on several recently refurbished sites - there are not enough men's toilets in the morning producing queues, while there are too many privacy cubicles which are not fully used.

Great site - wonderful holiday!

First time at Wharfedale for a long weekend break. Can really recommend this site - one of the best we have stayed at! Facilities scrupulously clean. Wardens friendly and efficient. Site easy to locate, well placed for pub, shop and town, and extremely peaceful with no traffic noise at all. Super dog walk for the four-legged family members, and of course you are in the Yorkshire Dales so lovely walks abound! While we were there wardens held a fabulous coffee morning and dog show for charity - they really went the extra mile to give everyone a great time. We will definitely be back!
