Unfriendly Warden

Having never visited this site previously it was somewhat in the middle of no where and this is definitely not a family friendly site. The site does not resemble the usual Club standards with the toilet block being some what very dated and limited showering cubicles and toilets. The site is very strictly run with no room for maneuverability or flexibility by the wardens which after talking to a number of members we are seem to agree. For some reason the current wardens have put up very unsightly posts in red and white which we were informed to keep us off the grass, this spoils the ambiance of the site and makes it look more like a driver training area marked out, encompassed with this makes it rather more difficult maneuvering twin axels and other larger caravans off site and into the correct position. Currently this site is far from family friendly and is missing out on what far better sites have such as Park Coppice, Meathop Fell in that area or Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire. Further to this upon arrival at 8.03pm due to traffic we were not permitted entry as they had shut at 8pm, although a very kind fellow member let us through the barrier the next day the warden was unkind the way we were spoken to. I do hope that these points can be addressed as when you visit a club site there is normally no apprehension or issues as wherever you are in the country the standards or normally very high with exception in this case.

Comment from The Club:

Many thanks for your review and we are sorry you didn’t enjoy the site. With regards to the late arrival we want to clear up any confusion for your future reference as the warden’s work really hard to ensure The Club rules are adhered to in order to ensure the smooth operation and management of the site as well as the safety of people staying on the site.

As per Club Site rules, when you arrive at the site, please see the Site Staff and pay your pitch fees for your stay. The late night arrivals area is for people to use if they arrive later than 20:00. As you were not in the late night arrival area you were marked as a no show and your booking was cancelled. This meant that your pitch was released into the system which could have meant that someone would be without a pitch. This also caused upset and frustration from others who actually arrived before you but after 20.00 and as such were pitched in the late night arrivals area. Fortunately there was a pitch available to reallocate to you, however, for future reference we ask that you follow Club Site rules because also if the site had needed to evacuated, they would not have expected you to be there.

I hope this helps explain and thank you again for leaving a review.

Easter 2015

Our fifth annual Easter visit to the site. All the usual things were in place and despite a few days early on of gales, we ended our holiday in clear blue skies and warm sunshine. We always enjoy our stay here as our dogs find it so easy, so therefore so do we. Keswick must be the dog friendliest town in the country! What, however, is now beginning to give us pause for thought on returning is the lack of Wi-Fi and anything approaching a reasonable mobile phone signal outside of standing at the top of the site. Whilst we appreciate getting the services to the site perimeter is not entirely within the club's purview, we feel that it is now a significant minus point for the site. There is an information/games room which always seems very much underused whilst we are there, thought needs to be given to installing some form of Wi-Fi broadband router service in there. We would expect to pay a small fee to cover the costs, at least initially until it has paid for itself. Perhaps a way forward might be to link up with Rookin House next door to help with costs. Mobile masts are now available in environmentally/aesthetically pleasing forms so getting one installed should not be an issue from that point of view. In closing, a beautiful site, good wardens, facilities and location - just needs these two items addressing and you would have one of the best sites in the network.

Relaxing Easter break

Blessed by the unusual Easter weather (sunshine), we stayed on a serviced pitch and were delighted by tranquil surroundings (even though the site was almost full). Ideally situated for the northern Lakes without the large crowds normally associated Everywhere was kept tidy and the toilets were very clean. The dog walk area is fantastic, just make sure your pooch will come back when called as there is access to the beck! Our only gripe is no wifi, and be aware that O2 has no mobile signal.

Lovely mature site great location, minor issue with fully serviced pitch.

My brother and I had booked 2 serviced pitches, and had the choice of quite a few. Unfortunately after we had levelled off, secured the vans, connected electricity & water we realised we could not use the grey waste soak away as it was higher than the outlet on the vans. I think we were on pitch 24 & 25. It would be useful if the wardens marked the site plan to show the problem until a lower soak away is installed as per other adjacent pitches. Other than the Wind & weather (which are beyond anyone's control), we enjoyed our stay & will return.

Beautiful views

Had an early season night here only 3 nights after they opened. Even so it was all up and running. Wardens were extremely friendly and happy for us tomreverse or drive our motorhome onto the pitch to get the best views. The shower block was very clean and warm as it was -1 at night. Cleaning was at 2pm which  in my mind is far more sensible than in the morning allowing folk a leisurely lie in and late shower and removing the dash for the showers before they close. The location is lovely with superb views yet sheltered from winds by surrounding hills. The lack of trees allows most pitches to get the sun. Site located down a long drive so it is nice and peaceful too.

Our first site

We chose this site mainly because of the photograph of it on last year's book, and also because it was quite close to home for our first ever tripb away caravanning. The wardens were very friendly and it is a very peaceful site. The grounds are immaculate and the toilets and showers the cleanest I have seen. We returned later in the season as our first trip was the first weekend it was open and it was still as clean as ever. This time there was a fish and chip van that visited at tea time which was well received by the children. We have already booked to go again the weekend it opens up and I imagine it will be a regular haunt if ours as we love this part of the Lakes even though we are easily able to visit in a day!
