Lovely site, perfect location!

We stopped here for our second site of our 'tour of Britain'. It was perfect for the Lake District, great view of mountains, peaceful (grass cutting has to be done at some point!) and helpful staff. Great facilities and so clean (we are loving the apparent consistency of caravan club sites, having only just joined!).  It was a perfect location for exploring the Lake District and climbing Helvellyn, with excellent outdoor shops in Keswick! We also stopped here on way back down from Scotland to South of England for one night, staying on the late night arrivals slot and this worked out perfectly - thank you for an excellent stay. We would/will come back! The advantages of belonging to the Caravan Club and booking ahead for the next park are great, either by phone, online yourself or by the staff from the site you are currently on - superb! Made touring so much easier.

Troutbeck Head

We choose this site as wanted to extend our holiday by a few days and as we had come from Scotland but live in South Cumbria, this was an ideally located stop off, however we rarely use CC sites anymore because they are pricey compared to some private sites. 3 nights on this site was £78 so compared to the £120 paid for 7 nights in Scotland with same facilities was expensive but convenient for us. Usual spotless facilities and welcoming wardens. The lady in reception did however reel off directions around the site and layout etc without drawing breathe so I did feel a bit overwhelmed with the info and the site map needs a magnifying glass to enable reading properly. We found our way though and chose a lovely pitch with the spectacular view of Blencathra and the comings and goings of the activity centre next door. Little niggle about grass cutting - yes, it needs to be done but a whole afternoon of 1st, strimmer noise then lawn mower noise and then ride on mower noise was just a little too much for my liking. Dog walk was adequate up into forestry land but not circular so it was there and back. Any other walk from site would mean venturing onto a busy road. Fish and chip van on site Tuesdays and Fridays and we sampled them on Tuesday and they were good and well used by other visitors. A big site but airy and light with great sized pitches. Contrary to a previous review, as a dog owner myself, I am always aware of dog mess and found the site free of it and also the forestry walks which was a pleasant but welcome surprise. Keep it up dog owners so that no one can complain.

Overnight stop

We stayed here for 1 night on our way to Scotland. Great views, even though the weather was not kind. We went to the Troutbeck Inn for dinner. It was excellent and well recommended. You may need to book.

Peaceful and Relaxing

My husband and I spent a wonderful, relaxing weekend here. The site was everything you expect from a club site - clean, well kept with friendly and helpful staff. There are gorgeous views and best of all ......peace and quiet. A lovely base for walking and enjoying the countryside. If you're into action there was an outdoor centre next door offering off-roading and other activities.

Lovely site

A lovely site in a very scenic location. If you pitch at the lower end expect some noise from the crows. If you pitch in the all service area expect a bit of a walk to the toilet blocks. Also the midges can get to you on an evening but you will be ok if you take some Avon skin so soft (works a treat). No need to drive into Keswick or Penrith for basic supplies just visit Cocklakes Farm Shop a mile back up the road towards Penrith. Great food and restaurant.

Nice Site, Beware of the Midges!

We stayed here for 3 nights in June. Site was really easy to find, and access is good. Warden was very helpful on arrival in directing us to the vacant pitches. Site is very clean and tidy, with a great dog walk.

Only downside is the amount of midges! I got about 20 bites putting our awning up, and means you can't sit outside of an evening. I'm sure this is only a seasonal issue though!

Serviced pitches have a very limited view due to a high bank one side and trees the other.

We had a great phone signal (Vodaphone). Stock up on food and drink when you are out and about during the day, as closest shops are approx 9 miles away in Keswick or Penrith.

Troutbeck June 2016

Lovely site, very clean facilities and the staff were very friendly. The dog walk was excellent and they even provided poop bags near the bin sited at the beginning of the walk! The only negative was there was very little wifi signal! Sometimes thats a good thing though, eh? ??

Favourite Site.

This site, set in beautiful, if a little remote area of the Lake District is simply stunning. The epitome of what a well run Caravan Club site should be. Very tidy, extremely clean and well maintained toilet blocks, (to be updated next year I believe). Such hard working, cheerful and helpful wardens. Thank you, we had a wonderful stay.
