Trewethett Farm

We stayed on this site with our dogs from 13th Aug 2016 for one week. The wardens were a mixture of helpful and very arrogant and rude! The practice of choosing a pitch first on foot is very stressful and causes bad feeling between campers before the holiday has even started. We religiously cleaned up after our dogs even though many other people did not. It was quite disgusting, in fact we ended up cleaning up other dog's mess around our pitch so that the wardens didn't accuse our dogs! The dog walk is incredibly small, no use if you have a dog that likes a good run, but at least it has got one. Shop well stocked but very expensive. Main toilet block was good but the 'temporary' one was awful and should be replaced with something more substantial. Can't believe the club can't afford it as this is site is full most of the time and it is not exactly the cheapest. The pitches were quite close together in many cases, particularly the grass pitches. We did go during the summer school holidays but were disappointed with the amount of screaming kids on many evenings. The views however are stunning and the site very pretty. The wifi is absolutely rubbish and the phone reception for data is really bad too for EE and O2. It is a very exposed site and very windy a lot of the time. We were lucky with the weather but had quite a few disturbed nights. Don't think we will be going again but glad we had the experience.

Disappointed

On arrival (in the rain and wind) I was given a map and told to take a walk to find an empty pitch. After half an hour we realised that there was hardly any pitches free and most were too small for our outfit. Went back to office to be told that pretty much we were to go to the camping field. We're fine camping on grass and we had more space around us which was great. But The port-a-loo facilities and the seperate tiny showers were an absolute joke. To be charged the full amount as to people on hard standing near-ish to a proper toilet block is an even bigger joke. Wifi is practically non existant. I paid £25 for the year. Mainly because I needed to do our TAX return online while I was there. 3am is the perfect time in the morning to make sure the internet works! People were sitting outside the port-a-loos trying to get it to work. The wardens seem to have one rule for one and not for others. 5mph - they were seen bombing around the site (they overtook our friends driving up the track) to take a picture of a teepee! Next door to us parked up the wrong way and they never said a word - they were definately in the fire code breach. Our dog escaped once - the warden was down on my husband as quick as a flash. Next thing 3 dogs are running around like mad and nothing is said. Such a shame because it is a gorgeous site. Come on Caravan Club get your wallet out and get another proper toilet black!!

Great location.

Great location, agree with previous review. Unhelpful ladies at this sight and definitely very few smiles not what I expect from CC sites. Booked pitch with awning but unable to put awning up as pitch next to ours had parked in wrong place he was asked to move which he did eventually! However parked car awkwardly so still no room for awning. Gentleman Warden did try and resolve problem at first. Would visit again just for great location.

Best views

First time on this sight breathtaking views we had amazing weather. Agree most unhelpful wardens I have ever met not a smile in sight. We booked a hard standing on the phone non available on arrival but never mind we had a grass site at the top. Porta cabin facilities very cramped. what a cheek charging full price!! We took the extra walk to the main facilities. What a shame the description CC gives about walking to Boscastle and Tintagel doesn't mention overgrown pathways not suitable for children and elderly - please review your site Otherwise a gem of a site wil be back

Blown away so left early

We love this site! It's perfect except for the fact that when the wind blows it REALLY blows! We had no sleep for two nights as the wind thrashed our awning around! We ended up leaving after only 5 nights into our 8 night stay ?? To add insult to injury storm straps for the awning are £20 each a full £3 dearer than in the hardware shop in the town! On the whole though we will be back as this is our favourite site with great facilities, views and staff!

Great site but lacking management by wardens.

This is the 3rd time we have been to this site in our motorhome, but this time was disapointing as the wardens seem to have lost their spark. We allways book the non electric economy pitch as this has the best views on the edge of the cliff. When we arrived we were told where to go in the normal manner, when I asked if we can extend our 3 nights the grumpy lady said she cant look into this? So off we went to our pitch to find that there were no empty spaces. So drove back to reception and was told by grumpy lady that I have it wrong and there are spaces in that area, so suggested rather-than argue that they should come & have a look, after 20 mins a warden appeared and said there is no spaces so will have to go on electric then move again the next day, even though i had prebooked the non elec site? Eventually It turned out that a caravan had reserved a spot for his brotherin law by placing chocs on the grass where should have been. The warden then told me that its first come first serve so i can take that sapce. After a 4hr drive i parked in my spot. That evening there was a knock on the door and i was told that this spot had been reserved for his brotherin law who was arriving later that night. So i suggested that he speaks to the wardens as i got here first and thats the rules, but he had reserved this pitch by putting chocks out, so was not happy that i had taken his reseved space? The family had decided it was there section and made remarks that this was there section, and we were asked when we were moving every day as this was their corner! Not a comfortable time and i have never felt so awkward about being on a pitch! We left after 3 nights as the family told us to get off their pitch! In all the years I have been with the cc i have never felt so threataned by other families, the wardens should have told the family that they are not allowed to reserve pitches!

Another good holiday

Our third trip to Tintagel and it was just as enjoyable as ever. The site is beautifully positioned on the cliff top and so can be quite bracing. I heard one camper convincing himself not putting up his awning for fear of losing it to the wind, but perhaps that was a little too cautious. We had a warning of high winds but our airbeam tent hardly flexed once the storm straps were tightened. The wind can be a risk but I'd advise to pack straps and enjoy the Cornish Weather whatever. The site facilities were very clean and there is a fish and chip van that comes on Sunday and Thursday nights for those that can't be bothered to cook. The wardens work hard to keep the place tidy and it shows. Two things to note, with new wardens this year the arrival process has changed but it was not clear to me what they were trying to achieve! We arrived at 11.30 (which is probably the optimum time) to join a queue of vans at the entrance. Once paid we were told to go back to the van and then were called forward and told what pitches were available, but others went in search of pitches in the usual "Trewethett style" - so you will see folk scurrying around with pitch maps trying to find the best pitch. To try and counteract this behaviour the Wardens used "Pitch in Use" markers but to my mind it just confused the issue. For Tintagel regulars, you'll know the issue of trying to find a good hardstanding pitch in a good location. I'm not sure there is any simple solution to this but bravo to the wardens for trying something different. On a slightly different note, there seems to be a few more notices being posted on what can or cannot be done at certain times - certainly more than last year. Again this could have been prompted by poor behaviours of other members but it is probably a little bit too much for a site that is a holiday location. In all a great site in a fantastic location, just don't leave your arrival too late!

Summer holiday

Had a fantastic 2 weeks at this lovely site. Excellent facilities as usual and great location on the coastal path. Situated in between Tintagel and Boscastle both are within walking distance - about 2 miles. Lovely views and gorgeous sunsets but make sure you have your storm straps if you have an awning as it can get very windy at times. We did have a giggle at the Trewethett tango - someone on our row changed pitch 3 times in as many days! Luckily we were more than happy with ours.

Wonderful views - great short or long stay

Another trip to Tintagel and another opportunity to stay at Trewethett Farm. Pitches are a good size and I managed to get a booking for the 3 nights I wanted in August, to my pleasant surprise. The toilet blocks were to the usual very clean Club standard. I was camped by the auxiliary block - I agree that the loos were restricted on space but still very clean. I did not try the showers. The shop stocks a good range of groceries (at a price) and lovely local fresh bread and pasties and cream teas. Staff as delightful and helpful and friendly as ever. I am looking forward to our next visit.

Wonderful site shame about poor summer shower facilities

We love this site which is why we have been coming for 8 years.  Always lovely helpful wardens and helpful weather warnings for impending winds, v useful as it is right on the Atlantic!  However given that it must be one of the most popular sites on the network, why oh why do the Caravan Club provide secondary very sub-standard portable shower/toilet facilities during the summer?  Surely over a few years the cost of building a proper block would be cost effective?  Whenever we have visited the site has always been fully booked.  So come on guys i am sure you can afford it.
