A lovely site in a fabulous location, however .....

A lovely site with spacious pitches in a fabulous location with most of the pitches have amazing sea views. Two paths from the site (one at each end) lead directly onto the coast path offering beautiful walks to Tintagel and Boscastle (and beyond). The location is perfect. And now to the 'however'. There are 146 pitches on this site with a main toilet block and a couple of portacabins offering additional facilities. There are a total of eight female showers (one of the showers in the portacabin was out of order) so this meant some queuing at busy times. Also there were only four dishwashing sinks for the whole site, again with queues at busy times. I understand we visited over the Bank Holiday weekend, but all the facilities appeared a little grubby. This is one of the most expensive sites we've visited this year and had the most disappointing facilities. The other 'however' is the arrival time. The Club handbook clearly states 12.00 arrival time, but on Saturday people started arriving just after 9.00am and were being allowed on site to pitch. We were told that they can't turn them away (as that would lead to complaints), they can't be made to wait until 12.00 (as that would block the access road) so they have to be let on site. If you are like us and abide by the arrival time for site, this is very frustrating. Interestingly there are two letters in this month's Club magazine about with this same complaint of early arrivals. Even more galling is that when we left yesterday (just after 11.00am) we met another caravan hurtling down the access road (which is single track in places) and we had to reverse to allow the caravan (who was arriving early) to rush onto the site.

stunning views - just amazing

we came to this site for one night in order to visit Tintagel Castle, the non-electric pritches are literally at the top of the site, the views WOW - did I mention the views.... stunning. Shame that the more basic of the two toilet/shower blocks are closest to the non-electric/tent field as these are the campers most likely to need the washing up facilities. also no hairdryer in this block where there is in the main block. but appart from that the site was clean, friendly and well located. We managed to walk to Tintagel Castle with our family (including 6yr old) although it took longer than estimated as it's very steep and rugged on the coastal path, but still an amazing walk and so beautiful. This was the most expensive site we stayed on during our two week tour of Devon and Cornwall and didn't feel it quite warranted the high price tag but loved it all the same.

Perfect

Our first time to this site. The location is superb in that it is an hours walk from either Tintagel to the West or Boscastle to the East. Both walks are along a stunning coastline. If you get one of the from row pitches on either of the three tiers the views from your caravan are simply stunning. We arrived at 1200 and were lucky to get straight into pitch 69 which had a front row view. 12 nights was enough and we were very lucky with the weather although one or two blowy nights. Awnings need to be up to the job as the winds can be very wild. Shop is well stocked and has cream teas! The wash block is very clean and nice and modern. There are numerous dog waste bins and the waste/water points are not far from any pitch. Wifi wasn't great - But this is a BT issue not CAMHC - It is a very rural spot. Its a very long way from us in Yorkshire - But we will definitely be back one day.

Beautiful sunsets

Lovely views. Wardens always busy keeping everything ship shape. Sunsets were gorgeous when it wasn't too overcast. Beautiful part of the country. Hope to visit again.

Excellent

This has been aour first site in England and we got astonished with both location and quietness. Spectacular cliffs, beaches very close and wonderful sunsets. Absolutely recommended.

Fantastic site.

Stayed here for five nights as on tour. Although busy on arrival we were dealt with, with ease. Found a nice pitch and set up within 30 mins. Top level and near the showers. Views were fabulous. Showers were spotless and always hot. Great walks from site in both directions. But the steps are steep so be aware. All in all a great site with great staff.

A balanced review

Stayed here early July for 11 nights, first visit. The view turning down the lane is stunning and really takes your breath away so obviously you are chomping at the bit to get a front row pitch. We arrived at 12.15 to find very few pitches available, other than the camping field, which has stunning views BUT, levveling blocks are necessary and the nearest facilities are sub standard portacabins. If the pitches here were the only ones available we would have been disappointed however we pitched lower down on the site on a level hardstanding, nearer the permanent facility block (ok but ready for an upgrade, although very clean). There is A LOT of pitch movement on this site and after 3 or 4 days a front row spot became available and we moved. Although nearly all pitches get the view the front row really does impress and having moved our holiday became complete. One thing worth mentioning is arrival time, it is 12 pm but we frequently saw outfits being alllowed on the site before this time, even as early as 11am. We always abide by the arrival times and felt disgruntled that quite obviously the rule breakers bagged the best pitches. If an arrival time is 12 why do people constantly think they've got some given right to arrive early, very annoying and if I met an early outfit arriving on the access lane as we were leaving I would be annoyed. However we loved this site and if we were to visit again we would move again to get a front row pitch. Surrounding area just lovely but be mindful of very narrow, very beautiful Cornish roads which wide/long outfits may find tricky.

Not enough facilities

We arrived late in the afternoon with only 2 pitches remaining and was offered pitch 11 which required planks to make the pitch level. We have a motorhome and was not impressed with the offer of planks if we need to use the motorhome to go out I do not like the idea of having to relay planks every time we come back. Fortunately the other pitch we were offered was more suitable 102. We still had to use levellers but this was not as bad as the other option (i just got impression we were trying to be fobbed off with the other option of pitch 11). We were given a leaflet for Wi-Fi which we could not access because we were to far from the nearest aerial. Since our last visit the club seems to of increased capacity with more campers now staying at the site without improving the facilities available. The 2 porta cabins are not suitable with the number of campers staying (we were told on our last visit these were temporary). The views are fantastic and the staff can only work with what they are given and are not at fault. Bus service I would not call frequent every 2 hours or more. Another was a lack of service points where some campers had a long walk uphill in parts to use the services (we were next to it so not so bad for us). Overall we just felt this site fell very short of the clubs standards and left disappointed.

Picture perfect site

We love this site. The views are fantastic and the 6 wardens are so friendly and helpful. They seem to work from before 7am and after 7pm each day, buzzing around in their small vehicles, empty bins and checking on pitches. We have stayed here before, and one time had our awning ripped away from the motorhome during a windy night, after we returned late to the site and didn't see the warning written on a chalk board at the entrance. We now watch the weather forecast here, and ask the wardens advice, before erecting an awning. Its a pity the pitches are not able to be booked, so every morning you see people walking round watching who is packing up and changing pitches before the new campers arrive. DOGS What a pity the site does not put all the dog owners together in one area, so they can all be near a dog walking area. We found a few people just let their dogs use any grass area near other peoples pitches, especially before 7 am and late at night. Thank you to the wardens for keeping the site so perfect.
