Glorious week

Mozzies bad, but it's next to the woods and weather apparently was also a contributing factor, be warned and take stuff to combat it, the club can't be blamed and there is a stock of anti-bug wipes in the shop. Phone signal on Sky Mobile poor, again not a club fault, but enough to book tickets for visits and let's face it getting away from the world is perhaps one reason we go touring. What is within the control of the club, particularly the site staff, is be efficient, keep the site clean & tidy and be pleasant to visitors, all of which were top notch. Perhaps some of the facilities are starting to show signs of age, but not a problem to complain about for us and everything is clean at any time of the day and working as it should. Ideally placed for the sights around North Norfolk and there are plenty to keep you busy for more than the week we spent there, so that and enjoyment of the site is the reason we will be back. The weather in the high 20's didn't harm our enjoyment.

Great Location - but the mozzies were killer on this occasion.

The site at Sandringham is our local club site, so any excuse is used to pop over and stay for a few days. In fact it has been a bonus this year that we have been able to use the facilities at all after the proposed refurbishment has been delayed. On this occasion we were staying on a hardstanding pitch on the bottom field so that we could make the most of the sun over the weekend. We were booked in for 3 nights and had a busy weekend planned visiting the local beaches and sites. However, on this occasion we had a greeting party of a number of mosquito's so I was bitten several times whilst unhitching the van. Half a can of bug repellent was used whilst setting up the awning. That said this situation is unheard of on our previous visits and has been caused by the recent wet weather followed by the sudden warm weather causing an explosion of numbers in the forest. Despite, the bugs our enjoyment of the weekend was not dampened at all. We had our usual relaxing time. Other reviewers mention the poor phone and wifi signal, but this just means you get to relax more and don't have to worry about your phone. The pitches are large and spacious so you don't feel that your are being overlooked. The site is quiet and friendly. The showering facilities are showing their age but they are very clean and the water is hot. The Site Wardens also stop and chat on their way round. They are friendly and helpful in good measure. What's not to like. We will certainly be back in the very near future.

Great location shame about the Mozzies, phone signal and wifi

Great site in beautiful location, The hot weather and rain apparently fuels the mosquitoes and the site was plagued by them. Be aware that you have to go top end of site to get phone signal and wifi is limited to hotspot outside reception. TV signal from cable to service point is fine. Certainly go there again but not in august.

Lovely site, excellent staff and location, but looking tired

Excellent location, fantastic staff but the facilities are looking pretty shabby around the edges. The toilet blocks are tired and cramped and not up to the usual CAMC standard - they badly need refurbishing. Several pitches are very uneven making levelling hard work. Wifi atrocious and no bench by the single hotspot leaving people of all ages to sit on the pavement. The play area is nice and the layout of the site is good with a variety of settings. Watch out for the mozzies if you’re by the trees. We enjoyed our stay and will be returning, but we hope some investment has been made to justify the price of the stay.

Ready for refurbishment

Spent 10 days here in June. Lovely weather but facilities let it down. Showers and toilets clean and the wardens are doing their best to keep the deteriorating facilities in good condition, but they are desperately in need of a refurbishment. Pitches also ready for upgrade. Wi-Fi poor when we were there, had to stand outside reception to get signal. Lovely wardens, very helpful and friendly. Lovely location, great for walks into the estate and good for dogs. Will go again but only after it has been refurbished.

a week in sandringham

Excellent stay on Sandringham camp site. Great for walks especially with dogs through woods and especially to Sandringham House. Situated well for site seeing especially for first timers like ourselves to Norfolk. Excellent that pizza van and chip van stopped at site so no cooking for several days. Toilet block in middle of site could do with refurb but was very clean and tidy. Tv reception poor but aerial cable available to buy on site. Wi-fi poor so found difficult to plan daily activities when searching for places to visit i:e English heritage and national trust. This aside we would highly recommend people to stay and will book again in future when visiting Norfolk again

Nice but ............

We've stayed at this site twice now and love the location and overall the site is very good. It is however rather "tired", we understand a large renovation that had been planned didn't go ahead over the winter/earlier this year. This probably explains why the facilities have quite a few bits and pieces that are "out of order". The renovation is urgently needed. The biggest issue however is that there is no WiFi across the site, the first time we stayed we signed up to the old system and it was passable, this has now been discontinued, which means that there is just the hot spot near reception. In this day and age this is not acceptable. 4G is practically non-existent, at times we struggled to even get a mobile phone signal. Some people of course may find this an advantage. Like others who have commented we loved the walks in the woods, as did our dog. However if you are prone to being bitten then take plenty of insect repellent with you and make sure you have it on when you walk in or near the woods in the late afternoon or evening. I also got badly bitten just standing chatting outside one of the shower blocks. I am sure we'll return to the site, but probably not until the refurbishment has happened, hopefully this will also mean that the pitches are more level as getting our caravan level was "interesting".

Comment from the Club:

We are so glad to read you loved the location and enjoyed Sandringham Club Campsite. With regards to the WiFi we will soon have the new WiFi set up on site and we have posters up to let members know the situation and that we have a hot spot available. We are sorry this impeded your enjoyment of the Campsite and hopefully we will have WiFi back up and running soon.

Slightly lower quality than other club campsites

Great location - easy to walk to Sandringham house and gardens. Nice cycling on the Norfolk cycle way up to Hunstanton. There are 2 toilet blocks but the cleaning times of each overlap so no availability at some times. Showers worked fine but not as nice as many club sites A couple of hoses on taps for filling up with water or waste disposal were leaking as didn’t fit well

Walkers and dog owners paradise

This is the first time we have stayed at this site but it will definitely not be the last. Nestled into the Sandringham Estate Woods, there are trails stretching for miles and they are shared with lots of wildlife. Our Labrador was in heaven and we walked different routes each day often ending up at the leisure area for a coffee and snack before returning to our motorhome to plan the next day's trail, on my mountain bike and by foot. Park the MH and have 3 or 4 days of woodland therapy shared with nature. The site is immaculate and well run and the only negative is the GSM phone reception which is ½ bar at best, meaning even wifi equipped outfits will struggle to get WiFi. Interestingly, the TV reception was OK and could be boosted using a cable to the power bollard. We will be booking again soon.
