Fantastic Site in Great Location

Keen to write a review as all the recent ones seem rather misleading. It was my first visit to this site and I was very pleasantly surprised. Our pitch was an awning pitch so slightly larger than standard but the one we had was huge with lots of space around and backing onto woodland. Comments I read suggested the toilet were very good but the upper block we sued was great. Always free showers and toilets, very hot water with a tap rather than a push button suggested in other review. The site was very clean and tidy. Great playground for the children and lots of wildlife. There were lots of resident wood pigeons who were rather vocal at times but not a problem. The shop was well stocked and always had bread and milk. the staff were very helpful. From the site there were lots of paths into the woods and again lots of wildlife to see. I really enjoyed this site and will definitely return.

WARNING - ALL DOG OWNERS!!! - YOU MUST READ THIS

Without Prejudice

If you are a dog owner you MUST read on as there is no advice put on against this site on the web, no advice provided on arrival at the site, and no information posters around the site. Please ensure you click through the hyperlink at the bottom. We stayed over the Bank Holiday weekend (Friday 25th - Monday 28th August 2017) We took with us our three Spanish Water Dogs. After returning, late on Tuesday evening our eldest dog, Mena, was vomiting and had diarrhea. We booked her in with our vet first thing on Wednesday morning but before we could get her there at 10.30am she sadly passed away. Less than 12 hours from being sick.

At 7.00pm our middle dog, Mozart, started being violently sick so we rushed him and our youngest dog, Lola, to an emergency vets and by 8.30pm they were both on drips, severely dehydrated. Mozart was listed as CRITICAL and we were told to expect the worst. Today as I write this article, both are still in the veterinary hospital and making a slow recovery.

I have reported this to then Caravan Club and received this response.

20 DAYS!!! - there could be a lot more dogs that have unnecessarily died or suffered in that time. Please, please make sure its not yours.

Response from the Club:

We are very saddened by the reporting of this incident and the Regional Manager has now been in touch with you directly. This is the first reported case in the area this year so it is very tragic and we would like to again express how sad we are for your loss. For anyone visiting the site in the future there are notices up in various locations across the site and on entrances to the woodland areas. We include information in all booking confirmations for the site. We also have information on the Club website on the site overview information, however we have now also added this to the main site details page to make this more prominent. The Sandringham Estate has been in previous communications with the Animal Health Trust and for more information on Seasonal Canine Illness please visit www.AHT.org.uk.

Jewel in the Crown

A nice and well kept site. Happy friendly wardens, great walks and location. We were on Knights Rise, quite a slope, well spaced pitches, many not level. This was the most technically challenging site yet. Lucky we had ramps and extra steadier pads to level the van up, although the knock on was the awning wouldn't sit flush. Motor mover to set her up on to the ramps for ease. Not all slopping but a good few do. Odd really for hard standing pitches not to be truly flat. Also due the slope rain would run under the awning rather than soak in. Some areas of the site seemed more cramped. No issues with smoke from BBQs but the site sits in a forest pocket so little wind. Some pitches had access to the forest walks so I can see some privacy eroded on those. Weather wise a cranking bank holiday long weekend. I can see how some pitches can easily become water logged, we did not have this issue. Toilets etc all good and clean. You can walk to Sandringham, but its a short drive and the parking is free, that makes it hit and miss, plus its not organised so expect random parking. Lots to do there. You can walk to the pub in the woods, a local community lodge type place, lovely. Wells-Next-The-Sea, 36mins away, well worth a visit, go early as parking short plus its £7 a day. The crabbing is good there, the rental crabbing gear does not do the job, but the nearby shops sell all you need if you dont have it already. You need to go at high water. The Beans Seal trips flyer will give you an idea of the local high water times as they run at high water. Hunstanton good as well, a bit more lively than Wells but just up the road. Exit from the site looks tight, but isn't, it just the way the kerbs and barriers sit. Noticed a few pitches tripping out and being coned off. Wardens on the job. Great for kids, the best play ground yet. The dog walk is in the middle of the site and many pitches back on to this, so some barking as none resident dogs get walked. We took ours into the forest, but there is this Canine seasonal illness reported. No signs here with ours. Loads more still to do, we shall return we think next year and we dont say that about many sites as we like to move on and go to new places. Nothing bad to say about this site. We too had the wood pigeon dance on the van first thing, no wind meant our flag did not scare them off. No speed in our part of the site a first :) but then it was hilly and there were speed bumps on the hills. All in all a great site, in a great location, the good weather obviously a bonus.

Sandringham review

This is a very good site in an excellent location. We arrived in early August and were suprised to find we were the only arrival and the site, though busy, was not full. We got a good pitch (104) plenty of room and near the facililties. The staff were all excellent and helpful. Presentation of the site is good , the wardens have made some lovely wooden sculptures and flower displays at the entrance which set the tone on your arrival. Considering it was the school holidays the site was fairly peaceful with not many "noisy" kids about. To be fair the site has an excellent play area at the top of the site so if you want it quiter avoid this area. Loads to see and do around about, you can walk to Sandringham estate or if like my wife you have a disability, take the car, it's free to park. You can take your dog but not in the house or gardens. Lovely on a nice day to picnic in the grounds and visit the church. The coast run is lovely but better out of the main holiday season. For eating out try the Three Horseshoes pub at Grimston, dog friendly and huge portions. For a lovely day out go to Gooderstone Water gardens (leaflet in info room) this is a beautiful place, very cheap to go in, very dog friendly (including the cafe) and you can take your own picnic to eat in the grounds (plenty of seating. Only negative really are the so and so pidgeons, the place is plagued with em! and they paddled noisely on our vans roof in the morning!

Nice site but a little cramped

We stayed for 7 nights (22-29th July). The staff are welcoming and friendly, the toilets and showers were clean although a little tired, we did appreciate not having to hit a button every two minutes to restart the shower. The pitches are well maintained but not that big, we felt the site as a whole had a very cramped feel. The grass pitch we picked was very uneven but we felt it did have a little extra space compared to the hard standing pitches, some of which would not have comfortably taken our twin axle. All in all a nice site but one which we probably won't hurry back to.

First the good. The site is in beautiful surroundings and has ample opportunity for local walking, while we were there we had sunshine every day. There are also spectacular coastal walks nearby. The wardens were friendly and helpful as usual. The less good. Our pitch was very small, even with our small van (Eriba) the road was very close to the van windows. Every morning and evening there were lots of BBQs so we were constantly sitting in other peoples fumes and smoke. I really think sites should have BBQ free zones. The facilities were inadequate in number and rather tired. The other gripe which I have with all the sites is the number of members, including parents of small children, who are unable to to understand what is really a simple concept – the speed limit is 5mph, I think it is time the club took some action before there is a serious accident. I think we are unlikely to return to this site.

We spent two weeks at this site in June and having been influenced by the excellent reviews frankly we were disappointed. On a positive note the wardens were very welcoming and helpful, and the site location is very peaceful. Being close to Sandringham was a bonus and we spent an excellent day there, and also would recommend Wolferton station - the owner was most welcoming and we spent a very interesting few hours there, completely free of charge. On a negative note we felt the toilet and shower block was tired and hadn't enough showers for the size of site. The pitches were far from level and we noticed that levellers were being used even on the pitches on the flatter part of the sites. Ants were a real problem and we had to create a barrier of ant repellent around our motorhome as they were getting everywhere. About three days before we left the weather broke which showed up the inadequacy of the drainage system on the site, with our friends having their pitch flooded and awning under two inches of water. I don't think we will be rushing back to this site, which we felt did not offer good value for money.

A Royal Visit

Stopped here on a tour down the East Coast in a period of warm English weather in early July. Had a slightly stressful start to our few days when I had set up on the pitch of my choice only to discover that another motorhome user had registered on it but had gone out for the day leaving no sign of occupancy. Anyway, once that was sorted out and I had set up again (I need the practice anyway) the stay was excellent. Good size pitch with an excellent on site dog walk (Ihad two with me) although with all the closely walks in the woods I wonder if on earth on site is actually needed. I think non dog owners might agree with me. The shop is alright fir things you have forgotten and open for better times than other sites I have been too. Washing and shower facilities were fine. Others have said they need updating, but I had no complaints. Sandringham is a short walk through the woods and had a tea shop and band playing when we were there. Missing from the in shop tour guides was a visit to Castle Rising. A short walk away or cycle on a car free cycle path. Great tea room in the village and historic monument too. Finally, the staff were helpful and friendly and the site was clean and peaceful. I would recommend a couple of nights here to anyone.

Needs upgrading.

Wardens were very welcoming and site is located in a lovely area. We have no complaints about the Wardens. We were very unfortunate that our pitch was a bit of a disaster, first week we had ants, second week our awning was flooded, with water flowing through it like a river (no exaggeration). This was due to blocked drains and was reported to Warden who reported it to drainage professionals, so our last three days was all about drying out our stuff. This has coloured our judgement about the site and would not return. Toilet block at top end needs upgrading.

Great Site

We stayed for 3 nights in June, in our Motorhome, weather was amazing. Staff were lovely all so helpful and chatty, made you feel welcome from the moment we booked in. Bus stop outside to Kings Lynn and Hunstanton. Will definitely be back. Very well maintained site.
