This club site is fine and kept well, friendly wardens on arrival and around the site. Yes sloping pitches but managed to find a fairly level one for our caravan. We were unknowingly right near a pumping station on the other side of the fence but the low hum didn’t bother us too much.
One negative was the restriction in the toilet blocks with only two out of three WC cubicles in use, even though three “bands” were in play. Especially the ladies as they only have WC cubicles at least the gents has urinals as well. That said it was unbelievable how many people seemed unable to follow or undersand the system??!! Three bands in the tub, if all are on hooks then don’t go in - of course some did. I even saw one guy taking the band off his wrist on exiting the building, he obviously thought he had to wear it.Doh.
Sandringham House and gardens are lovely but unless you like a country walk don’t follow the directions given out at reception, it’s a long country path, a bit heavy underfoot, not very well signed on route hence easy to take a wrong turn and is at least 45 minutes (an hour with wrong turns). Google maps will give you a route mainly on roads, a lot easier on the feet and only half an hour.
All that said, this is a really good site and we will be back at some point.
Great location, really easy access
Just returned from 16 night stay at The Sandringham Club site. Really easy access, makes a nice change. Check in OK. Large site which was very full with big turnarounds almost every day which is probably why they couldn't tell me which pitches were free, just to drive around and pick one. Not much choice and all the better pitches were occupied so decided on a grass pitch. Although they didn't look it a lot of the pitches were very sloping and chocks/stacker pads will be required on most pitches. Grass areas in general were very poor mostly down to the abundance of rabbits who appeared to have little fear of people as they were out 24/7. They had clearly been digging everywhere with holes all over the place. Its OK to put up a sign to say beware rabbits but filling in the holes and re-seeding would have been better. Although there were several wardens they did not spend much time around the site apart from on their tractors attending to the waste areas. Wi-fi on the site is not good even the 'hotspot' was poor. The top area of the site seemed a bit higher and we sometimes got a better reception up there. TV reception is poor so we needed to use the booster provided. The dog walk on site is very small and unusually it states to keep your dog on a lead? Not much use if you have an energetic dog who likes to retrieve a ball! Lots of walks through the woods but not every dog likes to walk through woods with in places narrow paths through the ferns. I would highly recommend taking insect repellent we were bitten to pieces, my husband looked like he had measles. Access to Sandringham House takes approx 40 mins to walk, only available currently if pre booked ( £20 per person and only a few downstairs rooms open, and I believe not open July/Aug as HRH is in residence)and they wont allow dogs into the gardens. At most NT houses we visit one of us sits outside the house while the other one goes in and then we swap, can't do this there as not allowed anywhere near house with the dog. Unfortunately you can't see the house from anywhere unless you want to pay to go in .We drove to their car park £3.50 for 2 hours and had a walk around the estate and a coffee in the cafe. If the church is open it is well worth a visit the inside is quite spectacular, and you can take your dog in as well! We were lucky to see the fantastic display of rhododendrons which grow like weeds. A drive to Wolverton is worthwhile to see The Royal Station which was decommissioned in 1966 but has been beautifully maintained by private owners, it is currently closed due to covid but you can take pictures and the history is one their website. Wells next the Sea is a charming little place well worth a visit.
Great but most pitches slope in 2 directions
Lovely, helpful wardens and the site is a woderful location. The downside if you own a motorhome is that most pitches slope markedly in 2 directions, so it's not possible to get level using ramps, but not much of a problem for caravans.
Relaxed stay in lovely surroundings
A very friendly welcome and relaxing stay. We spent two nights here , visited Sandringham estate twice. The first time walking through the woods into the estate and the second time a safe cycle ride along country roads.
We will definitely return .
Lovely Site
We spent a week here and were fortunate to have glorious weather. Everything was as expected, quiet and peaceful, beautiful woodland walks, lots of places to visit. The fish and chip van and the pizza van were both excellent - good system with the fish & chips meant little queuing. My only slight warning is not to go wandering in the woods in the evening without your phone! I got hopelessly lost and ended up in the Caravan and Camping site next door. Only because a lovely couple helped me out was I able to avoid being lost for ever! It is easy to lose your sense of direction as the paths wind in and out of the trees. We will certainly consider returning to this site.
An oasis in the middle of the Sandringham Estate
Our first visit to this site for 5 nights middle of last month, and have to say we weren’t disappointed. As always a warm welcome by the stewards on arrival despite our visa credit card being rejected by the card machine. Moving on the site was busy but still a good number of pitches to choose from. Although showers were still closed during our stay the toilet facilities were spotlessly clean and warm. Our first visit to Norfolk so there is plenty to do and see. A nice walk to the Sandringham estate and around the extensive surrounding woodland was very enjoyable as was a walk through the grounds of the house too (note £12.00 a ticket though for this bit though, but still well worth it). We were a little early to see the resplendent rhododendrons which had loads of buds but nowhere near full bloom. I’m sure by now they will be a brilliant display of colour. Visits to Sherringham, Wells next the Sea, Cley, Holkham Hall were all worthwhile but note the coast road is at best 40 mph so allow plenty of time for travel. We’ll be back again sometime soon.
Lovely site
Stayed here with 2 children recently. Lovely site, great location. The walk to the Sandringham play site is quite long for little legs. Brilliant pizza van, well worth sampling.
Our only issues were firstly the cockroach problem around the toilet block. Having to clear massive dead bugs from the sink before washing up breakfast is a bit grim.
Secondly it's disappointing to see so many members ignoring the band system for the toilet block. No, the bands aren't just for the showers. No, you can't just nip in for a quick wee if there are 3 bands on there. And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take your band off when you exit so that others don't stand outside of ages. It's not a complicated system!
First time at Sandringham Estate, and won't be the last
We managed to find availability for a couple of nights during half term and were very pleased with our selection. The site is well laid out (although note many of the pitches are not quite level, so chocks are a must) and all pitches are little more than 100 yards from the surrounding woodland and its many walks.
The facilities were kept clean and the site overall appears to be very well maintained. The Covid precautions/procedure for the toilets blocks was clear (although still misunderstood by some!) and as long as you avoided the obvious busy times, any queues were minimal.
The chip and pizza vans seemed popular and were well-received. Lack of mobile signal is an issue, but for most that might be most welcome.
Overall an excellent site and one worth revisiting.
Sandringham Again!
Sandringham Club Site is excellent. This time it was very busy (totally full up!) which did mean it was a little noisy at times and queues for the toilets etc were quite common. Hopefully it will be possible to allow more people into the toilet blocks at any one time, very soon. The mobile phone and wifi signals are almost non-existent, so you can enjoy not being pestered by either of them! TV reception is fine if you want that.
Sandringham House Gardens are superb and the entrance fee includes parking for the day, a great bonus.
Amazing site and extremely helpful staff.
My husband and I visited this site for 5 nights, it is in the most beautiful surroundings. It is peaceful , very well laid out and listening to the birds and especially the owl at night was wonderful. Unfortunately I took ill and was rushed to hospital leaving my disabled husband to manage without me. The staff were amazing and I would like to thank all the staff but particularly Sue and Steve for the level of care and support they gave my husband while I was away, you will never know how grateful I am for those kind acts. I cannot praise this place enough.
