The Firs Caravan Club Site

Although it was the last open weekend and the site was probably only half full this did not stop our enjoyment of this beautiful site. Extremely friendly wardens and very helpful the site has stunning views and is very clean and tidy. The shower block was spotless with copious amounts of piping hot water. Will definitely visit this site again next year.

Lovely Location

Only stayed a couple of nights as needed somewhere local to stay, however will be going again for a longer stay. Nicely laid out site with some stunning views and plenty to do in local area.

Excellent end of Season holiday

Friendly welcome from the Wardens to this exceptionally well presented site. The facilities were absolutely spotless, warm and the showers piping hot! Wonderful dog excercise on the lower tier where you can let your dog run free. Places to visit in the local area are in abundance, especially National Trust properties and walks. We will definitely be returning to this outstanding and relaxing site. Please follow the directions and not the Sat Nav ...... or you could be in for an interesting journey!

What a fantastic stay, an easy 10/10

What a stay we had at the Firs. It was just perfect. Not only is the site incredibly picturesque with stunning views, the Caravan Club staff really make this site. We have never come across such helpful and kind people. We arrived late and thought the local pub served food. When we asked reception where the pub was located, we were informed they no longer did food, but there was an information room on the site with details of takeaway food that could get delivered on site. A few minutes later, a member of staff a[[roached us and said they were going to a supermarket and could they get us anything? We were bowled over quite honestly. The information room was fantastic, full of local details as well as takeaway menu's, we ordered pizza! The toilets and showering facilities were immaculately clean as was the site. The next day we realised we forgot out tea towels, we went to the shop to purchase one and instead they kindly gave us one to use. Nothing was too much for them on this site. We enjoyed it so much and were so taken with the wonderful people at this site, we're tried thinking of ways to go in the direction again, just to stay again! Thank you all at The Firs, we enjoyed every minute!

Lovely site in beautiful surroundings

Visitors should be aware that this site gets extremely popular at weekends even in Autumn and Springtime. We use this site every year so that we can visit family locally and I have to say that the Wardens are wonderful and can't do enough to help you. The site facilities are clean and tidy - and warm where appropriate. There are local supermarkets and Belper is a nice little town, but the real benefit of this site is the countryside around it - quite simply it is stunning. If you are into walking, you don't need to travel far for some good walks - some are even fairly flat so that oldies like us can do the quite easily. I would like t keep this site a secret, but unfortunately Club rules mean that a review has to be for the benefit of all, so I will just say "I don't think you will find a nicer site anywhere in the country".

Hidden Gem

First time visitor. As we left I did tell the wardens that I would not tell anyone how brilliant this site was as we wanted to keep it secret but I should not be selfish. The advised route may seem strange but driving along the local options I would stick with the advised route. The site is spotless and run by one pair of wardens who have a pride in their work but with the human nature, friendly and helpful, infact some other site wardens could do with learning from them. The toilet block is 9 yrs old since refurbishment yet looks like it was last year. It is not child friendly as no play area but not all sites can be. . If it's peace and quiet well this is it. This is the best Caravan club site we have found , it puts others to shame.

Perfect site

We have stayed here twice, each time for a week. The site is well maintained. The shower block is immaculate. There is plenty of hot running water. It is a very quiet site and there is no play area. For my husband and I it is perfect as not many families seem to stay. The wardens are a lovely friendly couple. Always seen around the site cleaning and making sure everything is perfect. If you need anything they will assist. We wanted bread so when visiting the local shops we placed an order! There is a small shop with a limited supply of food - canned food, bread, milk, sausages, ice-creams, sweets and some camping supplies. We would definitely recommend this site. Nothing bad can be said. Thank you for another great holiday.

Perfect Site

This is our second visit and stay of 7 days. The site is nicely located for a range of activities, has very helpful, competent, caring wardens with a great sense of humor. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they even provide a range of jigsaw puzzles for guests to work on in the information room, should they so wish. The site is kept spotlessly clean and is a joy to stay on with good sized hard standing pitches. Will return next year! Dave and Val Attridge. Norfolk.

Beautifully Kept Site

This is a really well kept and maintained site with excellent facilities. It has a really good information room which has a table and chairs, where a jigsaw puzzle was set up and in progress. It was also very well stocked with leaflets about the local area. There is a fabulous view of the Derwent Valley, you could almost call it a viewing platform as it is between the upper and lower pitches and there are a couple of picnic benches there for you to sit and take in the scenery. We booked a fully serviced pitch for our weekend away, and it is what we got, however, it was very narrow and you had to pitch your tow vehicle in front of your caravan tight up to a bank of soil and retained wall. This meant you could not put an awning up, otherwise you would of been hammering your pegs into the actual road. It's a bit naughty really as it was supposed to be suitable for an awning. There was nothing to be done as we arrived late at 7pm due to an accident on the roads, and it was the only pitch left on the site. As we were only there for two nights and we wanted to explore the area the next day we did not try and move. In our opinion, pitch 49 is only really suitable for a motorhome. Or alternatively the club should make it into a seated area. The wardens on the site are lovely and it was clear they were very hardworking people who had pride in their job, there really was no point in complaining as there was no other pitch available.

Beautiful & Relaxing

Just got home from a 7 night stay on this site. We had no problem finding the site ( using the clubs directions due to bad roads ). Beautiful clean, quiet , relaxing site with spectacular views over the valley behind our pitch. I must stress that this site would be no good if you have children as there is nothing for them to do on site - no playground. I would certainly say this site should be classed as an Adults Only site due to there being nothing for children to do. The site is very well kept, toilets, showers etc very clean & always available. The only down side is that the dog walk needs some lighting, there are a few lights on the entrance to it but nothing once on the field & with the dark nights unless you have a torch it is very dark. Lots of places to visit around the site, lovely pubs serving delicious food although a lot do not open until 4pm. Visited Bakewell Market on Monday which was nice. Will definitely be visiting this site again.
