It was our first touring caravan holiday in 8 years. The site has a wonderful view of the Amber Valley but make sure you follow the directions to the site given by the Caravan Club. The Sat Nav could take you up some very narrow steep hills. The Relief Wardens were extremely friendly and helpful provided the water hoses and wastepipes to enable us to make full use of the service pitch. The facilities were spotless. The site is on 2 levels, the lower level was approx 100 yds from the toilet block but was really peaceful. Definitely visit again.
We returned to stay over the Royal Wedding weekend and once again the first thing that greets you on arrival are the warm and welcoming smiles of Angie and Les, they are the best site hosts, nothing is too much trouble for them to ensure your stay is perfect. The site and all the facilities are immaculate, (wonderfully hot and clean showers), and beautiful views over the surrounding countryside, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay at The Firs. Many thanks to Angie and Les for working so hard to make the site perfect.
We have stayed at The Firs countless times, and will do so again this year. Les and Angie are wonderful in terms of their attention to detail and support for all who visit. The site itself is lovely, of course spotless; well shrouded by trees, but open enough to get bright sun all day and into the evening. Throughout the spring, summer and autumn, to see the mist rising in the Amber valley in the morning is unmissable. Walks from the site are fantastic, although there is no avoiding the need to walk up and down hills. But no worries for those that prefer public transport, there is a bus stop right outside the site, and from Ambergate train station, about a mile away a train to just about anywhere is available. And if you do like to walk, don't miss out on the incredible nature walk along the Cormford canal, lovely walk, great views and nature alive all around you; with a number of fantastic tea rooms along the walk. And a last thought, don't miss the chance to visit the Ritz cinema in Belper, a cinematic experience like no other, enjoy the film in an armchair with a glass of G&T in hand.
We have visited this park several times even though we live less than 10 miles away. The park is immaculate and the wardens are friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble for them. In my opinion they make the park!! You will not be dissapointed.
This was the third time I have visited this site. It is one of my favourites and is ideally located for a break or as a stop over point. Incredibly helpful and friendly staff. I'm sure I will be back again.
The only reason I didn't give 5 stars across the board for this site is that the lower number pitches are close to a surprisingly busy road. We were warned about this by the warden but it didn't bother us at all but it wasn't always peaceful and quiet! However the majority of pitches are away from the road and are probably very peaceful and quiet. It's not set up for young children though there were young children happily on the site. The location is good but a little further from the Peak District than I had imagined. Avoid going through Ashbourne on your way to the Peak District - it was just one big traffic jam - not sure if it is always like this. Also if going in the next few weeks - check on route as there are some major roadworks after you leave the A38 coming from the North.
All in all - great site (despite several days of bad weather)- wonderfully clean facilities and very helpful wardens - what you'd expect from the Club but still needs saying! Belper may not be the flashiest place to holiday but it grew on us. Try George's fish and chips....
Stayed for one night heading for home after visiting family in Northumberland. This site is really second to none and is a real tribute to the hard work and efforts made by the wardens!
Facilities are spotless and hard to believe the amenities block has not been refurbished for 10 years!
Wonderful views over Derwent Valley and a really interesting area to visit. Thanks, we will be back!
