Great Site

Stayed here mid July for 2 nights, it is the second time we have stayed here. A great site, lovely pitch with nice view and a friendly welcome, The staff have done a great job regarding the Covid 19 regulations. Facilities were spotless and had a great system in place, made us feel safe without being too regulated. Well done, would definitely recommend.

Excellent first outing of 2020

First time we have stayed at this site and we were very impressed. A nice quite site with good facilities and great wardens. What really stood out was the preparations that had been made for COVID19. These were very obvious around but not so restrictive as to spoil our stay, in some respects it felt like a regular trip. Hats off to the wardens on a lovely site and their attention to detail

Still a gem!

We have just returned from a 6 night stay at The Firs - our first outing this year, but our third consecutive year to this site. Congratulations to the wardens team. The arrival process was orderly and welcoming, the facilities (although we didn’t actually use them, just had a look round them) were never under pressure and certainly looked to be immaculate. There’s a great selection of pitches, although we found that on pitch 50 (serviced) we were very tight in terms of clearing the roadway. There were often pitches of all kinds showing they had been allocated to outfits of 8m + so maybe a bit of guidance in terms of typical 7m outfits would be helpful. This was a very minor issue, only affecting us at set up. What we have noticed is how intrusive the use of windbreaks is becoming. Whilst we can appreciate their benefits with toddlers and dogs, they seem to be getting very much larger and are used as BBQ areas etc. On sites where some outfits are parked nose end first, there’s a real issue with who uses the space between the edge of the hardstanding and the area between. Some guidance from the Club would be helpful on this one, please!

Beautifully maintained

This was a quiet site in terms of visitors - well laid out and easy with a dog given the small but ideal dog area. There were some spectacular views from the lower area. The Covid precautions were well thought out and didn’t detract from the friendly warden we’ll come. Limited facilities for families, we wanted a quiet site so this suited us well.

Disappointed with the views

I booked the site because of the beautiful view on the photo, hoping we would get at least a glimpse of it, but unfortunately our view was of motorhomes emptying their waste in front of our window, often leaving their engines running!- not the change of lockdown scenery we were hoping for. Avoid pitch 51 if you can. The site was well cared for, facilities spotless and the wardens very pleasant. We could hear the trains but it wasn't obtrusive. There are 2 pubs within a mile walk- The Spanker Inn and the Fisherman's rest, we didn't go so can't comment. Belper wasn't particularly picturesque but had a pleasant riverside walk. We walked from Matlock to Matlock Baths, nice walk but very busy with noisy motorbikes and more like Blackpool than Derbyshire. Back to Chatsworth next.

End of seasion stay

This was our last stay at The Firs for this year. This is a beautiful site made even better by the attention to detail of the wardens. You are always made welcome A true home from home. We have not visited a site in the uk which is kept as well as this one, then are a lovely couple who keep the site as if it's their own back garden, well done to you both. Already made some bookings for next year. If you like Cantonese food Tom Yum in the cellar of the mill is a must. Tim Walker & Joan Weaver

First visit

Lovely clean site and facilities with some beautiful views over the countryside. Friendly warden on arrival and no problem booking in and finding a pitch also a nice enclosed dog walking area. However, there is almost constant road noise (so if possible find a pitch at the back of the site) and the road was very busy to walk along to get to walks across fields with our dog.

A Welcome return

After a 4 year layoff from caravanning, we recently bought another van and immediately booked one of our favourite sites, The Firs. On arrival, we were greeted with a friendly smile by relief wardens Anthony and his wife [Whos name Ive forgotten...Sorry :-( ]. After explaining that we was there to try out our new van and awning, they were only too happy to offer help and advice and, then popped in later to see if we had settled in ok. This site is a beautiful, well maintained, quiet site, situated on top of a hill overlooking the beautiful derbyshire countryside. The toilet block and facilities are spotless and well looked after and positioned well so, wherever your pitch is, you don't have to walk far. Theres not much of a play area for small children but there is a nice picnic area overlooking the beautiful countryside and a couple of nice public houses within walking distance that serve fine ales and food. I could go on forever talking about the beauty of this site, we can't fault it and we will be visiting regularly in the near future

Perfect

What a wonderful site we couldn't fault it. The wardens were friendly and cheerful and always helpful. The showers and loos absolutely spotless. Beautiful flowers all round the site. So quiet and peaceful. This is the 2nd year we have been and will be back next year.

What a View

We arrived on a very wet Friday in August - the Wardens were very helpful & said as we had a small Motorhome we could use the service point right by the entrance to save driving down to the lower level. They had also marked out what pitches were still available which made it easier than driving all the way round. Loved the location - when the rain stopped - what a view from the viewing point / picnic area - we sat there a few times. This has to have the best Information room with a jigsaw out for people to have a go at completing. Belper itself was lovely and not a bad walk down hill & back up it - took us about 40 minutes. Nice town, loads of places to eat - we went to the Railway & Devonshire. Again Wardens very helpful with directions and maps for walks - we did the Ambergate walk from the site - the route directions were spot on. We will definitely be back here. So that was our last site on a 3 week tour of the Peak District and we don't feel like we have scratched the surface - still so much to see and do.
