Super site and super wardens. We pitched on 16 the eastern section of the site, the supposed heavy road noise area. You can hear the traffic yes but at levels totally acceptable. My only gripe was the fact that the stones on the hard standing were not hard at all in fact I sunk down to my jockey wheel hub and as I was using my motor mover I have badly damaged the jockey wheel stem. Spoke to several campers who told me similar stories. Let's see some hard core and compacting please!!!
Use this site at least once a year as we have friends living in the area. The site is well maintained and the shower block clean and excellent hot water. Good addition of the dog walk field, ( the one on the bottom tier is a little cramped and small. Very good area for visitor parking and there are some excellent walks nearby. In relation to the noise, certainly there is road noise during the day, but it didn't bother us as we were out most of the time. The noise abates in the evening and apart from the wonderful birdsong, perfect quiet. Our van was on one of the pitches near the road. We had no problem with Wi-Fi, but TV reception was a bit hit and miss. Motorhome service point outside the shower block is convenient to use. Wardens efficient and cheery.
Spacious pitch, but a bit 'tweaky' to back our big van on due to fencing opposite - choose carefully (we envy you your motor mover). Yes, there's road noise at top of site, but we sleep the sleep of the just, and on the up side south pitch facing meant sun all afternoon and evening.
Good TV and phone reception. Wifi hit and miss (doesn't bother us, just for info.).
Facilities good, clean and plentiful hot showers. Nice children's play area (again, not a concern of ours, but like to see kids catered for).
Lovely walks from the site, did a circular taking in Deepdale nature reserve and really enjoyed seeing the flowers, birds and deer we came across.
Had fish and chips from the van on the Wed eve and they were very nice.
Barnard Castle was a very nice little market town with the best hardware shop ever. If they don't have it, you don't need it!
First, a heads-up. The late night arrivals area has been re-designated a Car Park. The warden advised me that vans are not allowed to park there overnight for health and safely reasons. The two electric hook up pillars are disconnected by the warden and reconnected when travelling chip vans sell on site. There is nowhere else to park if you are late.
This site is close to a fast and straight B road. You will get a lot of road noise if your pitch is anywhere near the road, as many here are. That said, at night it is possible to hear many night birds calling from the nearby woods and fields. There are also a lot of garden birds on site during the day.
The position of the site is within a relatively easy walk (along the verge of the B road with no footpath) and access to Barnard Castle is across a footbridge over the Tees. There's lots going on here as well as lots of places to see nearby.
The pizza van which calls on Friday evenings sells the best pizzas we have ever eaten at very reasonable prices. If you like your fish and chips in beef dripping then you'll love the chip van which comes twice a week.
There is an excellent dog walk in an adjoining field owned by the Caravan Club and the wardens thoughtfully mow paths through it. I was given to understand that the Club intends extending the site into this field in the future.
High standard of loos and cleaning as always. We enjoyed our stay but found it noisy here.
We had a two night stop heading South for home and would have liked to stay longer. Lots to do and see in the area whatever your likes. Cheerful and helpful wardens. Excellent facilities; the most spacious showers ever seen on a site.
Had an excellent Bank Holiday weekend at this site. Facilities spotless and a credit to the obviously hard working, very friendly and helpful wardens. Easy to walk into the lovely town of Barnard Castle. Would love to return.
I have stayed at this site many times and always have a great time. It's extremely well maintained and spotlessly clean, and also has a lovely relaxed feel to it. It was a lovely surprise to see wardens Brian and Janet who I've met at a previously, equally well maintained site. If there is an award for the friendliest wardens, I would like to nominate them!!! Thanks for a brilliant bank holiday weekend :)
We stopped here for two nights en route home from London. A great wee site with excellent facilities, great play park and peaceful & quiet location. Good views over surrounding countryside and close to Barnard Castle for exploring. The main road which runs close by the site is very quiet and we did not notice it at all even though we were at the top of the site nearby. Would definitely use again, possibly for a longer stay.
Just come home after a short stay at this site. In a word excellent........ Fits the bill for those looking for a base to explore the nearby countryside and further afield. or for those looking for a family holiday and a short walk into Barnard Castle. The facilities are excellent. We will be back for a longer stay
what can I say about this site, perfect apart from missing the chip van visit! always seem to go on the wrong days! new dog exercise area is perfect for those of us with dogs.
