Warden could not be more helpful

When we arrived we were a little disappointed to find the pitches were all hard standing, as we prefer grass pitches. Then we thought the electric hookup wasn't working, as we didn't have any lighting in our van. So far, not very promising! But it turned out the battery charger in our van had conked out but we still had mains power. The diagnosis was made by the Warden, who was extremely helpful and offered every assistance. We bought some plug-in lights and still managed to enjoy our weekend, even despite torrential rain and a thunderstorm! We'll be back.....

Great for a short break

Stayed for a couple of nights on our way North to tour Scotland. Previously always stopped at Hargill House and never managed to sleep there due to road noise and sloping pitches. Barnard Castle couldn't be more different with immaculate modern facilities and handy 20 minute walk into town - no kids on site in August !

So peaceful

Had a lovely week here, the improved dog walk was excellent although the gate needs to be secured, we did try with an old dog lead but after a day it disapeared. The fish and chips from the visiting van were excellent.  The valley footpath into town was a bit precarious due to a land slip but we managed. The facilities were spotless. The whole stay was excellent, so peaceful didnt hear one water barrel being wheeled!

A Lovely Week in Teesdale

We stayed for 1 week, leaving on 16th August. Excellent site, spotless facilities and easy to find from the A66. Within comfortable walking distance of Barnard Castle which is an attractive market town, with good shopping, ruined castle and also home to the Bowes Museum. The woodland/riverside walk from the site into town was unsafe due a land slip and so had to use the narrow path along the road side verge - whilst not a difficult walk, you do need to keep an eye open for traffic. There is much to see in the area e.g. High Force Waterfall, Raby Castle, Cow Green Reservoir and of course, the Bowes Museum which is a must. We had fish & chips from the visiting fish & chip van and they were excellent. Would definitely recommend the site and we plan to visit again next year. If the site was closer (we live in Norfolk, so quite a long drive) we would, without a doubt, visit more frequently.

Excellent !!!!!

This site is excellent, we stayed for 10 days leaving on the 11th of August. The wardens were great always helpful and friendly. The site facilities were spotless, as was the whole site. Friends came over to visit one day and their children / Dad had a great time in the play area. A must is the fish and chip van that comes on a Saturday and Wednesday. We will be returning. What I also like about this site is that it is members only, so everybody follows the rules for speed and keeping dogs on a lead.

First visit but certainly not the last.

Very well run site with very helpful wardens. This site has one of the best dog walks on site which made such a difference. It is a short drive into Barnard Castle which is well worth a visit. You can walk to it as long as you don't mind steep hills. There are plenty of places to visit nearby and we used it to visit Beamish Museum which was about an hours drive away. This was our first visit but we will definitely visit again.

Enjoyed our week

Very easy access from A66 initial welcome friendly but when my wife went back to reception to report pitch no and collect pass found female warden a little grumpy because she had the dog with her, but after that no problems. A beautiful clean site with lovely level pitches. Great dog walk and the kids that were there appeared to love the play area. Short walk into Barnard castle plenty of very good pubs and eating places, recommend the Indian restaurant. Did a couple of decent walks direct from site and plenty more to choose from. The road outside the site is a little busy but after a short while you do not notice it and it was very quiet at night. All in all a very enjoyable week will definitely be returning

Bland!

This is one of the newest Club Sites on the network, and for us was in many ways rather disappointing. We only had the one night, choosing to use a free Site night voucher, as at £28 per night, way outside what we normally pay. What did we get? A very nice welcome from the Assistant Warden, especially as we arrived late in the evening, after the office had closed. No choice of pitch, as site full, but not an issue, we expected this. Very good dog walk, a large (by Club standards) field with mown walks all through and around the edges, and three poop bins. Our pitch was large enough for our small motorhome, and awning if we had used it. Hardstanding was awful, large steel slag chippings, not nice to be on for human or dog! Tiny little green strips between pitches. Views are either tree tops one way, or rows of ultra neat caravans the other way, in other words, nothing to indicate where in country you are! Facilities block is built from attractive stone and is in centre of site. It has a safe walk way through away from motor traffic, and this is lined with shrubs and dog roses, about the only attractive landscaping on the site. The entrance is made more welcoming by some lovely colourful planters, but the overall impression is grey roads, grey pitches, white vans. The road noise is mentioned, and it does sound busy at certain times of day.  Strangely, there was almost no noise on this site. Definitely not one attracting families with children, we saw no youngsters at all, and this is the peak holiday season, so again rather surprising. It is around 5 minutes drive from the town centre, which is a lovely town, with a castle, nice independent shops, Morrisons Supermarket, nice riverside walks. To us, this is an odd site. It is spotlessly clean, a credit to the Wardens, but is possibly the most sterile, uninteresting site we have stayed on, and rather expensive as well. The MH service point is badly situated, we had to drive out and then back into the site, through both barriers to empty and fill our tanks.  Not one we will return to in a hurry.

Weekend escape

We don't live too far away, yet when visiting the site we could be in a different world, lovely location, gentle walk into Barnard Castle, plenty to see and do nearby, very clean, wardens friendly. Fantastic meadow for allowing dogs to enjoy their break as much as owners, definitely use this site lots more for a quick weekend break
