always book!

I travelled south from the Highlands last week and intended stopping overnight at Strathclyde site. I called ahead and asked what facilities there were for late arrivals. I was told to go to late arrivals area and pay in the morning. We arrived at 21:30 to find only one Late arrivals pitch and this was taken. For a site of this site, I think this is poor. We carried on down the motorway for another 10 minutes and pulled into the Cairn Lodge service area. Here we had a quite night and it was free.

Location, location, location!

First visit to this site on Thursday night en route to twin granddaughter babysitting duties in north Wales. Second visit was the following Monday night en route home in front of Storm Ali! We will be using it every time we head south for family events, and are planning a longer visit for our own sightseeing purposes. Superb staff, toilet block so clean you could eat off the floor (figure of speech!!) with lots of good size shower cubicles, and lovely large pitches (although we didn't put awning up for 1 night). Felt very private despite being quite busy on the Thursday night. We were slightly concerned about traffic noise as we live in an almost silent location in the Highlands. However, apart from the odd blue light siren, we decided to treat it like waves lapping on pebbles or the wind through the trees (which you could hear over the traffic) and it was strangely soothing after that! Highly recommend to all, including those with children as there was a decent play park and plenty of open spaces, with the added bonus of the rest of the country park next door.

Great site

A lovely site, friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. The site feels spacious and the facilities are clean and well maintained. We used this site as a base to explore Glasgow and whilst Bellshill railway station is walkable, we ended up using the the excellent local taxi service to take us to the station and then got the train into Glasgow. The taxi is £4 and with our seniors railcard the train fare to Glasgow is £2.90 each. The Strathclyde Country Park is next door with a nice walk around the Loch (at almost half way there is a nice cafe inside the yacht club building but it is not well signposted from the outside). There is a Toby Carvery close to the site, we stopped there for a drink after our walk around the park. Prices were reasonable and the food looked good. There is some noise from the roads but this is hardly noticeable and should not put you off, it didn't bother us during the day or night. We are motorhomers and tend to park up the motorhome and use local transport to get about and whilst the local transport is good it was one of those places where we wished we had a car as there are so many other places to visit within a short drive from the site. Would thoroughly recommend the site and will definitely visit again but for a bit longer next time.

Another Relaxing Stay

Yes there is a drum of traffic noise as it is close to 2 main roads, (we got used to it after the first day, it didn't spoil our stay), this is off set by the fact because of these roads it is very easy to reach areas to visit easier. We find this site relaxing, with it's large level pitches. the facilities are warm, modern and extremely clean. The whole site is kept very tidy and wardens work tirelessly to keep grass and flower beds and borders looking good. There is a decent dog walk on site which is handy for those early morning and night time doggy toilet visits. Acres of park land and a huge lake with water birds next to the site, with a visitors centre and cafe half way round. All the major supermarkets within a few miles of the site. A visit to the Kelpies near Falkirk is a must, the only charge is a modest £3 to park all day, with canal walks and park land also cafe/restaurant.The same with the Falkirk Wheel a few miles down the road. We only used to stay 1 night at this site but decided to stay longer, and found it to be most enjoyable. A Toby Inn a short flat walk away. The wardens are some of the best and friendliest we have encountered for a while. Thank you for a very pleasant stay. We live 300 miles away, on our future visits to Scotland this site is definitely on our list to stay for a few days.

Start of our tour

We stayed here as the first part of a Scottish tour, in fact I am writing this from there. The location is great, close to the motorway, easy to find. Just across the road is the Country Park with lots of walks, we walked around the lake this morning. The site is a credit to the very friendly and approachable staff who themselves are a credit to the club. Very friendly and helpful with local information. The only downside is the proximity to the motorway, as others have said there is a constant buzz of traffic, though you do get used to it. We head north tomorrow but I'm sure we will be back. A big thank you to all the staff here. Oh, BTW no problems with the wifi, we tour often and all year round, go for the annual package, very handy for planning and fact finding and at less than 50p a week good value

Most welcome staff

I would recommend this site to any members who want to tour Scotland as its ideal starting location. You can hear the motorway traffic as its right next the M74. But the staff on site are amazing and very helpful i think one of the staff was called Sue if not i apologise, but regarding the site we visit at least 4/5 times a year as its ideal to vist relatives. Everytime we visit the site it seems to get better everytime and seeing the improvements regarding the ground work and gardens i would like to congratulate the staff as this site is a credit to the staff.

Amazing Staff

We arrived at the site in a state because our car had broken down. Sam and her team were amazing. They went well beyond the "call of duty" to help us out. Without there help and care a disaster would have become a catastrophe. Sam recommended the walk round the loch which really helped us "chill out". Our heartfelt thanks to Sam and all the team. Thank you!!

Lovely site

Very well kept site - immaculate! Will be back. Marked down for noise as it was noisy but that was to be expected with a motorway so close. It didn’t spoil the stay at all. Dog walk like have been illuminated a bit as trying to take dog at one end was impossible at night. Would definitely recommend. Wardens very friendly.

Great stopover enroute to Southport. But the WiFi....

Lovely site, clean and well run....but I’m about to rant. Yet another complete waste of money on WiFi.   In these days of hotspots, super fast broadband and low maintenance costs, we find it unacceptable that the Club continue to charge 2.50 per day for ONE member to *attempt* to access the internet on one device at any one time. Membership and site fee costs continue to rise, but the WiFi service has never improved since it was introduced.   On some sites, like Strathclyde, the WiFi simply does not work, on others it is extremely slow, unreliable and intermittent.   I have yet to find a site where the WiFi works to any level of satisfaction.  On the rare occasion I have managed to  log in, it is like being like back on dial up twenty years ago - slow, intermittent and frustrating with constant down time.   We come on holiday and use the Internet.    It’s part of our daily life. If the Club really can only offer this terrible ‘service’ at least don’t charge for it on top of our membership fee, site and pitch fees. WiFi fees should be per Caravan not per member.  The Scottish government have announced that they intend to roll out super fast broadband to every home at reduced costs, and yet a family of four on a Club site would have to pay forty pounds a week for the privilege of just trying to connect, never mind actually use it! On the subject of charges....112 Club sites must have a a huge number of members every day, sometimes all year round  paying this fee. How on earth can the Club justify the huge revenue at 2.50 per member per day...when outgoing costs for the WiFi must be negligible as the service is so basic?  I have stumped up for this WiFi service - always hopeful - on every site visit since it was introduced years ago.  I pay in advance for a week, we stay on club sites at least three to four times a year for two weeks.   I calculate I have wasted at least half of the fee, when I am simply unable to connect. The procedure to try to reclaim the funds is protracted and difficult and genuinely not worth the bother of trying to prove you were unable to connect or get a signal.  Therefore, members just don’t bother - and this silence is perhaps taken as there being no problem!  I know from reading member comments on the Club website, Trip Advisor etc that there are many, many members as frustrated as I am.

Central Pitch for Scotland

This site has matured well since it opened 6 years ago. We have booked in here several times each year to visit family nearby. The grass / hedges dog walk and flowers are well tended. The facilities onsite are always warm and clean. Friendly helpful staff. The noise from the motorway is apparent but not troublesome. The very large trees which surround the site provide a good natural screen. We spotted a Roe Deer in the site this time.
