Lovely site but poor toliet & shower facilities

Very nice location, convenient to Town and River. Friendly wardens. Lack of electricity not a problem for us as we have a solar panel. The downside is the toilet & shower facilities. Although kept as clean as possible, they are very old and in need of rebuilding.

Ideal location.

This site is perfect for us and we intend to return again and again. We like the peacefulness of the site and the location is ideal for using our bus passes on the excellent bus service. We like walking alongside the river in the evenings and eating in the many good cafes, pubs and restaurants. We fully understand why there are no electric hook-ups and this doesn't bother us at all. TV's and mobile internet devices can all be operated by a leisure battery. We must mention the Wardens. Both the site Wardens, and the relief Wardens, were so friendly and made time to chat to members. We can't wait to return next spring.

'Quaint' site in need of some updating!

I turned up on the off chance of a place being available (last minute plans changed!) the hosts were *very* good.  Found a space for me and were friendly and helpful.  The 'wash' house was always spotlessly clean and the site was clean with the grass neatly trimmed for the pitches.  All in all a very pleasant stay.  However, in this day and age, I'm very surprised that there is no electric hook up or WiFi.  Either, or both, would have made for a perfect getaway.  So, I feel the site needs to move with the times and be updated!

Under water?

We were booked in for the August bank holiday weekend-Was touch & go whether site would be fit to use, but luckily 2 days before we were due to arrive we had enough dry weather for us to pitch. I was kept informed by the warden so it would not be a case of turning up & being turned away. We love this site and use it to attend the South Devon railways beer festivals, its an easy walk to the station from the site along the river footpath. Or for the round Robin of ferry train bus which start & finish on the quay. The wardens are the same as last year and we always find them very helpful.

Very convenient

Site location is fantastic. Right near the river. We took a boat trip to Dartmouth. Which was excellent. Well worth a visit. Totnes is a Lovely town. Nice shops and a great Saturday market. Excellent Chinese meal at the  top of the hill. The only downside on the site was the toilet block very old and had to cue for facilities. And a nuisance to have a code on the door especially at night

Pitched up for one night at the last available slot in this tiny, very popular site. Facilities are very  basic, the key to its success is its location, just a few minutes stroll from the river Dart and the lovely town of Totnes.  Entertainment, shops, restaurants, outings, all within easy walking distance, but I found the site quiet and safe at night, not too much traffic noise, though I was parked near the gate, and no bother from seagulls.  Would love to pitch up for longer on a future visit.

Amazing site

We went to this site last week in the height of the tourist season but we're surprised to find in busy yet still peaceful.  Facilities are getting tired but the ground is dry and the site is within walking distance of Morrisons, some nice bars and a very good Indian. The only downside is the sound of yapping fron the house behind our pitch (12) until midnight.

Fab totnes

We love this site for its location. Totnes has a wonderful vibe about it, very bohemian. Terrific high street we plenty going on, sit outside the Royal  Steven Stars hotel and people watch. The site its self has a very relaxed atmosphere which we like. No hard concrete just love grass pitches and all the better for being non electric. Very friendly wardens who are always helpful. Yes the loos are a little dated by plenty of hot water and always very clean. We have been going to this site for many years, but don't  tell everyone or they will all want to come!!

Terrific Totnes

Location, location, location. This site could not be better placed. The site is well cared for by super wardens Ray and Fiona. On entry you are hit by Fiona's wonderful hanging baskets, which saw me reaching for my camera. This being a council owned facility the toilet blocks are more council car park than Caravan Club...however they were immaculately clean - all credit to the site staff. The site looks great as pitches are laid out less formally. All grass, though the club seem to have relented and allowed pitching on what would ordinarily be the visitors car park.  Of course you can't "plug in" here. I think that is one of the attractions of the site, as you can put your solar panel and dual batteries to good use. Now did I mention location? The site is yards from Steamer Quay where you can watch the Dart lap in and out with the tides, cruise to Dartmouth it is gorgeous. Totnes is a brilliant place, quintessentially English, it has a main street brimming with independent shops, not a McDonalds or Costa in sight. There is also the historic Guildhall, Castle and a fab market on Tuesdays and Saturdays (pls check).  On Thursday evening Totness band played outside reception - they were wonderful and it was enjoyed by lots of us..others missed out. Well done for laying that on. Leave the car at home...cycle route 28, superb riverside walks, loads of buses, shops (inc huge supermarket) are right on the doorstep oh and don't forget the Steamer. All means you'll not be stuck. So now I feel a bit mean with my marks? Getting a good nights sleep was tough, due to seagulls making an amazing noise for 19 hours a  day...4am and they must be really hungry. But would it stop me returning.....absolutely not...but pack some ear defenders!

Centre of Town

We stayed overnight on a Monday.  Wardens were very helpful.  Loo block very old fashioned but wardens kept them as clean as they could - it just needs a makeover but is possibly not allowed if this is Council land!  Very noisy overnight due to either sailing club or just hooligans on the quay side! Again a rather loud dawn chorus from the seagulls so not much sleep in between.  However great meal at the Dartmouth Arms, High Street has some wonderful shops all within walking distance, with a walk along the river a must.  No problems with the lack of electricity but this site does not cater well for motorhomes, the tap is not easy to access and there is no MH waste disposal point so remember to take a bucket & a watering can!
