great site

Visited site 20-26 July. As always had a great time.Beautiful clean site. Had problems with the jockey wheel and requested help from one of the wardens, who went out of his way to help us, fixed it up ready for our departure. The site is in a great location within walking distance to shops, funfair, restaurants and pubs. The only slight irritation was that there seemed to be a lot of motorbikes running up and down the roads between about 9 and 11 pm, other than that perfect.

Made it at Last

We tour up to Scotland once a year and at last have managed to include Southport this year, we were not disappointed. We have a motorhome and tow a car on a trailer so having studied the layout for the site knew where we wanted to be, the new part of the site which as the name suggests is lacking trees and shrubs (only to be expected). We were lucky to get a little protection from some trees between us and the sea as it was the end of May and the forecast was for extremely high winds. We survived and had most of that area to ourselves. Wifi in that area along with Satellite signals were very good - not sure what the problems were with the previous member, possibly too many on the site using wifi. We heard very little traffic noise, but it was quite windy so possibly drowned any noise out! The toilet blocks were extremely clean and the wardens very helpful and efficient. The walk into town is level and a very easy, a very pretty Victorian town. The path through to the town passes a children's play area and the Southport Model Railway Club that run trains on Sundays. The only criticism I have of the site was at the arrival. Being midday and busy it was a little disorganised. We are used to the extremely efficient wardens at York - "driver stay in the van/car passenger books in" and all more forward very fast. At Southport everyone stays in their car/van until they reach the barrier, then get out and book in - so everyone has to wait while they book in before getting back to their outfit and moving off. With every outfit going through this procedure (most times both driver and passenger went into the office) it seemed to take forever! The queue went a long way down the road. Don't let this put you off, it's a great site and lovely town.

Caravan Position

My concern is that when on arrival you are informed to pitch as shown on drawing and then while walking through the site it becomes apparent that is not adhered to. It was only last year that I was next to an obnoxious person who pitched incorrectly and after I tried to give him friendly advice and eventually the wardens informed he was pitched in wrong position he switched my electric of when leaving site. obviously I no longer give advice

Not disappointed.

A return to this site, 13th July, for a short break did not disappoint - (although I can understand kayeamron's comments from the last review - the new part of the site is open to the elements with little in the way of trees and shrubbery. Needs time to mature?) - Site was pretty full but we were able to find a pitch in the 'old' section, the bit that follows the line of the former railway. Sheltered there and the wi-fi worked every time (for a change!). We did have trouble with the TV though, no ITV signal? (Corrie fans!). Plenty of easy cycling to be had, I recommend the run to Formby almost all of which is off road with gentle inclines. The completely re-furbished toilet block in the 'old' section is great. The Wardens keep it 'spick and span'. With the town and the promenade within easy walking/cycling distance there is no excuse for not getting some exercise! Blackpool it's not, so no high profile entertainment, but Southport retains its English seaside charm and is a good destination for a 'low key' break.

Disappointed

As we are on a 7 week tour of the UK and as keen tourers with the CC we were disappointed with this site. On arrival we were directed to the new part of the site, as were most people we spoke to, and although the facilities are very good, there is considerable noise from traffic doing wheelies around the roundabout on the main road late at night, also we have paid for full internet access for a year, but could not connect at this site even after two very frustrating conversations with Airangel. We have since moved to Bolton Abbey site and have no problems with wifi access here, so Airangel, it was not me ! I also believe that the new part of the site at Southport needs some trees to soften the outlook and absorb some of the traffic noise.

Fantastic holiday

Having never been to this part of the country before Southport site was a good location for exploring the area. We enjoyed days in Liverpool, Blackpool, Lytham St Anne's, the beaches of Ainsdale, Formby and "Another Place" at Crosby. Southport itself didn't disappoint - the site is located with easy access to Victoria Park and the lovely borders of Rotten Row. A bit further afield is Heskith Park, shopping in Lord Street , and the pier and so much more. The site lived up to our expectations of Club sites. All in all a lovely holiday.

Toilet closures

We have been on many Caravan Club sites which have a "rolling closure" of the ladies and gents shower/toilet blocks. i.e. gents for 45 minutes, then ladies follow for 45 minutes. Why does Southport close both facilities on the old part of the site between 10.15am and 12 noon? Great that they had a service toilet which seemed to work well, but I know that many were caught out by the long closure of the shower facilities.

Midweek break to Southport

We were on the new part of site,exposed yet,but will improve with age. Had a great visit, and were impressed with the staggered opening of the toilet blocks. Didn't have to get up at stupid o'clock as usual. Lovely walk through the park into town.

Just spent another enjoyable weekend in Southport never let s us down credit to the club well done to all the staff

Good seaside break

We have just returned from a lovely weekend at Southport. The site is immaculate, the new section is lovely and open although a bit more exposed to the sea breeze, which can be problematic for awnings. It's easy to walk into the town and there are plenty of cycle paths for getting about safely without needing to use the car. The park next door is also great for children to let off steam. The only query is why the late night arrivals area has been converted into a car park? Southport is a good distance from the motorways and can take longer to get there than you think. Our Friday journey was delayed and we were the last in at 19:45. A further delay could have been a problem.
