We only stopped for one night but were made very welcome by the "duty wardens". The dog walk is great. The walk on the leaflet was longer than envisaged and when we got to MIddle Winterslow it wasnt worth the walk. Pub was closed (at 5.00pm) and there is nothing there but houses. Nothing of interest. Problem with being unable to drain grey waste as drain is in the wrong place. Finding this a lot. Need two drain positions on sites please.
Our stay 31/7 to 02/08/15
Very clean & quiet site about 8 miles outside of Salisbury. There is a bus service right outside the site but it is limited. Still well worth a visit into Salisbury.
Good base for exloring the area!
We stayed on this site for a week, I feel this site is ideal if you want to venture out for days, such as ...Salisbury Cathedral & City - Winchester Cathedral & City, Stonehenge, Amesbury Stones, Bournemouth, Bath and so on.
The site is spotlessly clean, the relief wardens were very friendly and welcoming, yes the toilet block is small, but it was never full.
The site is slightly hidden, but if you read the directions as well as sat nav, there shouldn't be an issue, I had no issues with accessing the site with the caravan, the limitations to this site is as others have mentioned.. no kids play area, limited walking routes directly from site with exception of the dog walk. If I am honest I think a week is too long maybe five days max would be enough, but overall I enjoyed my stay and would recommend.
rainy weekend in wiltshire
we arrived on a filthy wet Friday last weekend. the site is hidden behind a car garage and not particularly well sign posted. once on site the staff were helpful and courteous and the shop had all the essentials. the lower site access road is quite narrow and there's a tricky section to get our twin wheeler through. The pitches are quite tight but there is a variety of types in different surroundings and aspects to chose from. Most are flat except the ones near the entrance. the main A343 is a little noisy so pitching away from the road in the trees helps to mask the noise. The site has a limited dog walk and no areas for kids. the lack of awnings on caravans suggests most people use this as more of a transitory site. the facilities are very clean and tidy and recycling is available. Located close to Salisbury and Andover means there is plenty to see if you are happy to drive. not a site I would necessarily recommend to stay at for any length of time if you are a high exercise dog owner or have children as you would need to go offsite by car every time for walks or to play.
Enjoyable - would go again
We have stayed at this site before. This time was for a long weekend 23/07/15 - 26/07/15. We met the assistant wardens on arriving who were really wonderful with us, in fact after driving around the site we decided on a pitch and on driving up to the pitch a lady from the outfit which had arrived after us was standing by the pitch to secure it although we had arrived with our outfit at the pitch first. These wardens diplomatically explained that pitches were on a first come first serve basis, so you can see how impressed we were that the wardens were happy to apply this fair system. 6 miles from Salisbury and 8 miles from Andover a great position for site seeing, one of the advantages of this site is its secluded pitch areas e.g. Ruths Roost so if you arrive with friends can pretty much pitch in your own area, providing not already taken, but do get used up quickly. Only one toilet facility up by the reception so a little walking up hill for those at the end of the site. I couldnt get Wifi so dont think this is available on this site. Information room was excellent and we had a meal in a local pub in small village about 3 miles away towards Salisbury West Tytherley The Black Horse open Thursday - Sunday. Food and drinks was reasonably priced at £20 per head for the evening for 3 courses and drinks. The menu selection was vast and the food exquisite, a lot of home made and also fresh fish menu from Brixham for those who enjoy this type of food. Can thoroughly recommend this site. I dont think that there is many facilities for children this is why I have scored good for families as low. Access to site is short about 300 metres but narrow only just enough room for one caravan, hedges at the front could do with a trim but not sure whether this is owned by the CC.

Great place to relax
What lovely welcoming wardens on a lovely site with clean facilities. Well laid out for privacy and some nice views. Access from main road is good too.
OK as a quick stopover
Spent four days on return home from the south and felt this to be too long. The site is disappointing and not very well maintained. Toilet block in need of a deep clean particularly the showering facilities. We shall not be returning as the area and location has little to offer us. Our poorest experience of a CC site in our 40 years experience of club sites.
A super site
I totally disagree with the negative view about this site. As a seasonal member, we do not get the best pitches. There are very many pitches on this site that are far sunny and bigger for the occasional user. The wardens make sure that no pitch or caravan is unkempt, and work very hard to keep the site clean and tidy. We love this site and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. We brought my Grandson here and he had a fabulous time. Holiday is what you make of it.
Peace and tranquility
Great little site, good for cycling and walking, you will need an OS Map due to MOD land nearby.
Clean and tidy site. Not suitable for young families, but plenty to see and do for adults.
In need of some attention ?
Pleasant enough site but one which arguably needs a site review.
The approach is very poorly signposted and the entrance is compounded with a limited access, two vans waiting completely block the egress of people already on site so during 'toilet cleaning' moments (when wardens are absent) members have to simply wait.
Its also worth noting no WiFi, the TV reception depends on your on-board aerial with some channels not receiving, no plug in on bollards and satellite pretty useless due to trees. Mobile signal very good with EE.
A couple of pitches (17 is one ) are very small and late arrivals will find difficulty in setting up, these should in my opinion really be removed.
Some long term caravans are in need of attention where the grass has grown under and they look unkept, raising the issue of why these better pitches are set aside for this purpose when the site is often full.
More attention to site information and local pubs would have been appreciated.
Good location but one for adults.
