A Northumbrian Jewel

We normally stay on CLs for the peace and quiet and price. This year we went to Scotland to stop on a CL but found our water heater had died. We quickly checked out and into the Blair Drummond Affiliated Site, where the site was busy but where showers would save us from 2 weeks of ripeness! The site was good, but nothing special. Eventually we decided to return to East Sussex, breaking the journey at Northumberland. What a great decision! An early start saw us arrive at River Breamish by 1pm. The staff were just so welcoming, both on the phone and in person. We quickly took the pitch of our choice and enjoyed visiting nearby Alnwick and Alnmouth. What a superb area! A forgotten place, since Mr Google sends most people north to Scotland via the M6. Go via the A1 and stop over in Northumberland at River Breamish for a few days. The site is beautifully set out and the showers are to die for. Wonderful clean facilities on a site surrounded by a nature reserve. Next day we visited Lindisfarne and Bamburgh Castle but in the evening couldn't find a suitable chippy. Low and behold, when we returned to River Breamish there was a chippy van on site (Mondays). No disappointments at all. Next time we will stay for a week or two, walking in the nearby Cheviots and along the fabulous coast. Thanks especially to the wardens who make this a site for the club to be proud of.

Staying at Breamish

We had a super week at this site in April this year. The site managers are fabulous and couldn't help us enough when we had  problem with our caravan. This is a brilliant site for both access to mountains ad the coast. We love it.

Fabulous Site

We visit this site every year at the beginning and end of the season and are never disappointed. The facilities are excellent and the new wardens this year are very friendly and are doing an excellent job. As others have said its a pity the local pub has closed but the locals who now use the pub at Glanton tell us it will reopen later this year. As we had no local this time we had to explore further afield. The Tankerville Arms at Eglingham has real ale and good food and there is a very good Italian Restaurant (Milan) in Wooler.

first class

Went to this site as a second choice as couldn't get in at Berwick (it being Easter) but was glad I did . It's a great place with walks/bike rides and a bird reserve next door. Plus Alnwick a short drive away. As Russ C said- shame about the local but the pub at Eglingham is excellent.

JUST WONDERFUL!

We had a couple of lovely days at River Breamish. We love the great outdoors and from this site there are so many places to go that are right on the doorstep. If we had stayed a week or two (not just 2 days) we still wouldn't have got everything in we wanted to do... The site itself and the facilities are spotless, wardens are great and always out and about 'doing'. We will be back to this site in the very near future already armed with the information we need for great days out (there is literally everything you need on the doorstep). It is a shame the Plough Inn at Powburn is closed at the moment as we do like a couple of pints on an evening and like to have a pub in walking distance which the Plough Inn is; we went to the Tankersville Arms in Eglingham instead (4.5 miles) and had a lovely meal and drink. Downside was one of us had to drive so could not have a drink. A taxi (Ron's at Wooler - 01668 281281) would have cost us £15 each way so that was a non starter... Ron's were prepared to take the dog which is worth knowing.

Lovely little site

Stayed here end of October before site closed. It was my first caravan trip so I was a little nervous. Staff were really helpful and full of advice. Pitches are a very good size which helped me as it was the first time reversing the van proper! We have a 1 year old baby and the baby facilities are superb.  You need a key from the office but once you have that there is a private room with a lovely little bath. General facilities for adults are excellent too. There are plenty of walks around and Alnwick is a short drive away so I would recommend this site to those touring with children. There are plenty of open spaces but no playback but depends if that's top of your wish list or not. All in all, a great little site and we will be returning.

Recent Stay

Just returned from a three night stay at this site. This site is in a lovely location and well layed out with nice level pitches. Unfortunately it was not as peaceful as expected, as it was towards the end of the season we had to endure the noise from the tractor cutting the hedge at 7.30 on the first morning, and two days later the noise from the strimmer on the next pitch, when we complained we were told it was the end of the season tidy up. I have a holiday let myself and would not dream of disturbing my guests during their holiday. If they reorganise their maintenance schedule it may be worth another visit, as it was we decided to leave a day early.

Super site with spotless facilities!

Have just returned from a 5 night stay at the end of October and found the site to be both friendly and the facilities spotless. Hot showers and plenty of space between pitches all contributed to a very enjoyable stay. The dog walks are excellent and some of the best we've experienced at a CC site. Only one criticism gives our otherwise glowing review 4 ticks under 'good for families'. With plenty of space on the play area field, it would have been nice to have had a climbing frame or swings within sight of parental supervision, which would have provided better facilities for families.

good holiday

Enjoyed 6 nights in Oct at this clean and well run site. Some very good pitches not overlooked and plenty of space. Ideal for exploring the North East if you don't mind a bit of driving. The way a holiday should be with no problems or complaints just an enjoyable time.
