Lovely site

Visited this site in late September, immaculate, not a blade of grass out of place, Mary's little gnome garden is a lovely touch. It is a little close to the A66 which can be a little noisy, but it didn't bother us, toilets spotlessly clean, the only downside was the dog walk, and nowhere off site to walk your dog, Mary and Harry have done an excellent job over the last 5 years they have been wardens there, sorry they are now only going to be there for one week every month, will have to find out when that will be, a lovely couple who will be missed.

Good site

I stayed at Hargill House for a week in mid September, arriving just after 12pm. I was the 2nd unit to arrive and was greeted by very friendly and chatty wardens and quickly on my way to my pitch which I had chosen at the office. The site does slope and even on hardstanding some levelling will be needed, the pitch I had chosen was towards the bottom of the site and had views across the valley. Traffic noise was not an issue although that may not be the case on pitches at the top end of the site which are a lot closer to the road. The site and it's facilities are to the Clubs usual high standards and is well placed for the numerous places to visit nearby and shouldn't be dismissed as just a stop over en route elsewhere. Richmond is a charming market town with plenty to do, independent shops and eateries, in particular Duncan's Tea Room is highly recommended.

Stop over to/from Scotland

Last year we spent a lovely week at this site, using it as a base for exploring the Dales. This year we used it as a one night stop over en route to and from Scotland. Yes there is road noise from the A66 but not that bad unless you are pitched at the top of the site right next to it or are a very light sleeper. The site does slope, quite considerably on grass pitches in places, but the hardstandings aren't too bad and when we stopped over on our way to Scotland we only needed to level the caravan front to back as side to side was fine.

Very good

Just back from a nice weekend stop here, first time in 6 years.mindful of the adjacent A66 we arrived bang on 12 noon in the hope of getting a pitch away from the road, second in the queue ( office shut on arrival ) after a short wait we booked in and got a nice pitch away from the road. Dealt with efficiently and courteously on arrival, site and facilities very clean and tidy. Good atmosphere plenty of chats with neighbours. Road noise not an issue really. More noise from the seemingly endless barking dogs on site ! Plenty doing locally with Richmond, the dales on the door step, 30minutes up A1m Durham well worth a visit. Will return and hopefully have more than just the 2 nights.

Stop Over Only

Stayed for a couple of mid-week nights in August. Site is well located and is easily accessible; however on arrival at just after 12pm the office was unmanned and we found ourselves second in the queue of outfits waiting to enter the site - the queue extended out onto the road and back up to the fast slip road exit to the A66. This is dangerous and is disturbing! Site is well maintained, but sloping which despite offering views does pose problems with outfit leveling - you will needs sufficient high rise ramps on most pitches. Unfortunately, there is nowhere to pick up a newspaper either in the village or at the site. The gents facility has been refitted and is first class. The ladies facility is adequate but nothing special and probably due next for the refit. The dog walk area was disappointing - a muddy stretch under trees parallel with the A66. However, on site there is a ball game compound, which in the middle of August and for the period of our stay was totally unused and wasted space. Considering the number of units with dogs the area would be better prioritised as a dog field rather than a play area. The location of the site does not attract children,as there is nothing in the local vicinity for them to do. ... and then there is the noise of the road - which is incessant and gives no let up throughout the night with two main trunk routes merging (A66 and A1). Even when pitched furthest away from the road, you need earplugs otherwise you will not get any sleep. It is not difficult to understand why the site exists - it is perfectly located for travelers who are looking purely for a stop over. If you want to explore the Yorkshire Dales, choose other sites which are better located.

1st Class 5 Star site

This must be one of the best kept club sites on the circuit, if not the best. Very pleasant and helpful wardens, who are incredibly hard working. The site and facilities are immaculate. An absolute delight to visit a club site with no over grown trees, hedges/shrubs and no weeds growing through the hard standings - 1st Class, 5 star site. What a great place to base yourself for visiting this part of the country with many excellent pubs serving great food and many dog friendly. We will definatly visit this site again and on a very frequent basis - brilliant.

More worthy than a one night stay

A very convenient site located just off the A66 at Gilling West. Check in is simple and efficient and you are given a guide as to which pitches are available so you can aim your unit in the right general direction. The grass pitches back straight onto the A66 so will possibly suffer more from noise than the far end of the site. We ended up in a large cul de sac which looked quite new - massive pitches and very level separated by a small grass area and hedging to the rear. Very handy for the service point and the facilities block. Facilities here are spotless and although I couldn't confirm look brand new inside - they are kept very clean by the wardens who look after this site and are a credit to the club. Lots of things to see and do within easy reach from the site if you're staying more than a night as a journey breaker on your way north or south. Catterick gives you the supermarkets, a ride towards Richmond and Leyburn will let you see tanks on the main road and on the nearby ranges - also very handy should you wish to visit the Wensleydale Railway or the Creamery for some cheese! We enjoyed our stay and were sad to leave after four nights - the only criticism is the noise from the A66 but you soon adjust to it and it blends into the background. TV reception is good but the wind can disturb the trees at the edge of the site which may disrupt your picture. WiFi reception is excellent and speed was acceptable.

Really nice well kept site

We had a lovely stay for two nights last week, the site was spotless, staff friendly and what a great centre to tour about. We recommend to pick a pitch at the bottom of the site with great views over the valley, it may be a slightly longer walk to the shower block, but it is well worth it.

Peace and quiet till the dog arrived

Second time we have visited Richmond, views are great pitches are usually good, unless you end up under a tree or tight against a hedge which makes leaving the pitch tricky, ambience of the site overall is good, until a happy dog arrived, never mind still a great site, facilities wonderfully clean and the staff also great, we shall certainly return and hopefully grab a better pitch

13 nights of relaxation

We stayed there for thirteen nights in July.Harry and Mary are some of the best wardens we have met, and also Gary and Jean the relief wardens. Both couples were extremely helpful. Although some people say the site is noisy, we did not. The main noise was during commuter times, the rest of the time it was quiet. It is a perfect place for going into Richmond and the Dales. The facilities were kept immaculate. the only time they were not, was when campers left them dirty. The only issue I have is with dog owners who don't use the official dog walk but, but take them just out of the site on the road. It is ideal for visiting Richmond and the surrounding Dales. It appears some members allow their dogs to foul on site and leave it for the wardens to clear up. We would certainly visit the site again and recommend it to our family and friends.
