Staff lovely

We stayed here for a week. Unfortunately due to covid we didn't feel comfortable travelling by buses as we have in the past, they were very busy as was Paignton. Parking in Paignton and Torquay are not great for motor homes unless you want an early start! So as a result we walked everywhere which was good exercise but very hard going in the heat with a child in toe. We can recommend the London Fryer and avoid The Castle Inn Hotel, we ordered a takeaway which was delivered by a very helpful and friendly member of staff however, although the burger was lovely the chips weren't cooked and the pizzas were like cardboard, had we have been eating in we would have returned the meal and gone elsewhere. We don't normally waste food but it had to go in the bin so that was £20 down the drain. The chip van on site although more expensive than London Fryer was very nice food and convenient especially as it is on a Saturday and Tuesday night so if you travel on either of these days don't bother cooking. For those mentioning mobile signal the site uses O2 and we found that Vodafone worked very well, so if like us you find youself wanting takeaways it's very handy to have one that works. The wifi was very hit and miss you have to stay up until the early hours to use it really. DON'T DOWNLOAD ANYTHING THAT IS NOT WHAT IT IS THERE FOR. All in all a great site and covid permitting us to feel able to use the transport we will be back.

First visit

Really enjoyed our first visit to Ramslade - very friendly wardens- very clean facilities (although limited due to Covid obviously) - great location for visiting Brixham, Torquay and Dartmouth on the coast. Lovely bar/restaurant in Stoke Gabriel called The River Shack which is well worth a walk to on a nice day. We stayed on the hard pitch side of the site which is nicely set out with hedging and trees. Its a biggish site but we were lucky it was half empty. Will definitely return.

Another enjoyable stay

We stayed on this site for 13 nights from 10th September and would have posted a review earlier but the CC website was down. So, this is late but still relevant. Great site which didn't disappoint. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Great to be able to rely on a site when you're staying for a longer spell - and this is certainly one! It's a large site which despite its size manages to be friendly and welcoming. The site is in two sections, mostly (but not all) grassy pitches to one side and exclusively hardstanding to the other. We drove twice around the grassy area before we even found the hardstanding half! Now here's the thing; I'd looked on google earth and saw the hardstanding area as regimented in a few long rows so absolutely not my cup of tea. Wrong! Yes, longish rows, but separated by well tended hedging so actually feels like small cosy areas! Still on a gentle slope but with flat pitches. We managed to get a corner / end of row pitch which caught the afternoon/evening sun, and it was SO quiet except for the wildlife. Perfect. The weather was wonderful so again, we were very lucky. Wardens? CC wardens are often great fun but sometimes on a larger site you can get a couple of rogue dour ones. Not here! They were ALL friendly, welcoming and helpful. They were a joy to greet on the way in/out of the site and pass the time of day. Such a bonus! As with all CC sites, facilities were immaculate and clean all the time and under Covid regulations, a testimony to the wardens who did such a great job! Access to/from the site can be challenging especially as you arrive/leave and you're towing, but so long as you drive with care, take it slowly, and DON'T try any of the shortcuts, it works. Use the A385 Paignton/Totness Road only, as per the CC recommended route. Even though this says clearly what to avoid, in our two weeks we saw a couple of white knuckled arrivals who'd ignored the CC route in favour of the SatNav and were highly stressed as a result! Stoke Gabriel village is lovely and well worth a visit. Ideally walk because it has narrow roads and challenging parking, but we drove on three occasions because of a foot condition which sadly prevented me from walking anywhere. Parking is £5 at the bottom of the hill by the Mill Pool so is expensive if you stay for 10 minutes but worth it if you visit the River Shack where the food is good and they managed Covid and customers beautifully! Hope this helps you decide if Ramslade is the site for you. Other than the occasional nutter on the Stoke Gabriel road, nothing much to complain about!

A site that exceeded our expectations

We have a motorhome and we were a little concerned about the access and getting around as we don't tow a car and love walking. The access to the site presented no problems. Whilst there were a lot of bends in the road and it was narrow in places there were plenty of passing places and never so narrow that we had to slow down to negotiate them. We were delighted to discover a lot of walks to the extent that we have at least three we will try when we return. We would advise buying an OS map which we found really helpful. The two walks we discovered into Saint Gabriel were really enjoyable. We fell in love with Saint Gabriel and found the people there both helpful and friendly. We also discovered there is a walk of about 3 miles into Totnes that avoids the road for 2+ of those miles. We will certainly return and if you are like us in that you enjoy walking it is absolutely A1!!

Great Site Wardens

We have just returned from Ramslade where I managed to damage my off side mover by not paying sufficient attention! I was blocking the storage compound access so phoned the sight office. Within a few minutes Ray had arrived assessed the problem and got tools to, was on the ground and slackened of the mover allowing the wheel to rotate safely. I have visited this site regularly for many years and always found the wardens friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, this however was the first time I have needed their help urgently and I must say I can't thank Ray too highly for his response and invaluable help. We will be back:)

Excellent site, but Motorhomers need transport

An excellently maintained site. We chose a hardstanding pitch for our 4.5T motorhome. Lovely pitch, with plenty of space to neighbours, which left us feeling Covid secure and some privacy, yet still benefitting from interaction with other guests and the wardens, who with the exception of one individual were friendly and helpful. We only used the drinking water and waste facilities, preferring to use our own, but from everything we heard the shower facilities were well maintained, clean and people adhered to social distancing guidelines. The site itself is very nice, but as others have highlighted, the access lane is challenging in places. Without our tow-car we would have been limited for places to visit, as the site is not within easy walking distance of much. That's okay for a day or two, but I wouldn't fancy using the motorhome to get out and about, particularly repeatedly navigating up and down the narrow access lane! Having said this, the site is in a great location to visit some wonderful places if you have transport. Only other point that might help others is that some of the trees are large and well established, which whilst they look great and contribute to the rural feel of the site, do get in the way of TV signal on some pitches. Would we choose Ramslade again - definitely!!

Excellent site

The approach road is narrow but has quite a lot of passing places. Arrival and departure times are 1200 which can lead to some interesting challenges in the narrow road! On arrival, we were given a warm welcome. Facilities on site are excellent and regularly cleaned. Throughout our 17 night stay, the staff were beyond criticism - always cheerful, helpful and polite. All in all a very good experience.

Fantastic Wardens but oh! the WiFi is rubbish

Yes, the road coming in is narrow, but there are quite a lot of passing points. The site is well cared for. We had a service pitch, but they are quite tight if you have an awning. The wardens were probably the most friendly and helpful we have experienced. The WiFi really is a joke. The only time I could get on it was early in the morning. As soon it gets busy it is hopeless to even log on. I was unable to log on any evening during my 5 night stay. To phone the helpline for the WiFi cost 3.5p connection charge then 11.5p per minute!!!!!!!!!! The field for the dogs was fantastic, the grass was nicely cut, hand sanitiser on the gate and a dog bin provided. I have noticed some comments on the grass cutting, I must say that there is a lot of grass to cut on the site, and I would much rather have the grass kept nice (which it was) than have long grass everywhere.

Not quite what we expected

On approaching the site the road from the A385 is very narrow and twisty with quite fast traffic approaching from Stoke Gabriel. Booked a non awning pitch due to very limited availability and on arrival we were advised that there is approx 7 pitches all in one area adjacent to the exit to the site, entrance to the dog walk and entrance to the play area so no chance of a peaceful stay. Making the noise worse was the grass getting mowed on 3 consecutive days by 3 different types of mowers, we understand the grass needs maintained but it was constant. The trees adjacent to the pitches are now becoming over grown so need trimmed back. The washroom facilities were very clean and very well maintained. No signage on the building advising where the dishwashing or laundry facilities are.

A very pleasant stay...if you don't need wifi

We stayed here for 5 night in late August. Lovely site. Decent facilities - clean, warm shower block. Access road is narrow in places so avoid meeting other caravanners by adhering to the suggested arrival & departure times! However, I planned to work for a couple of the days. The phone signal (BT Mobile) was rubbish, but then you're out in the middle of nowhere so that's to be expected...even if we can send people to the moon these days. So I paid £11 for a week of wifi. What a waste of money. Took forever just to login and, once in, wasn't worth the wait because it was terrible. Staff did everything they could, but it seemed to have no bandwidth at all. Could barely support a Google search let alone a voice-only conference call.Couldn't even maintain sufficient connection to complaint effectively to AirAngels, the service provider, via their own online chat!! In summary, lovely site, decent facilites & helpful staff. But don't expect to be in touch with the outsde world.
